Chapter 411 Not Fighting and Fleeing
What did it mean to win without a fight? Giselle didn't even say a word of jealousy or competition. She was just being herself, completely non-aggressive.
But in no time, Chloe felt utterly defeated.
Jonathan and Lara's attention was entirely on Giselle, speaking to her gently, afraid to upset her.
Chloe sat far away on the edge of Giselle's bed, feeling like she was sitting on pins and needles, her heart a whirlwind of emotions.
Jonathan's stories about his ex-wife Whitney were probably true. If his love was all for Whitney, then in his eyes, Chloe and Giselle were likely the same.
Giselle, due to her health and softer personality, was more likable and pitiful, perhaps even more important to Jonathan.
So what did that make Chloe? Just a convenient girl who showed up.
A woman's love or indifference towards a man could change in an instant.
At that moment, Chloe suddenly felt like she was being dragged out of a cocoon filled with Jonathan. Her world suddenly expanded.
"It's getting late, I have work at the company tomorrow, so I'll head out now." She suddenly smiled, standing up and gracefully saying goodbye to the three present.
"I didn't know Ms. Montague was in this condition, I came too hastily. I'll send some supplements over tomorrow."
Chloe had been groomed by her parents to be an elite since childhood. Although running a club didn't earn much, she still made a few million dollars a year. She had lost her shine in front of Jonathan only because she was the impulsive one.
"Sorry for the poor hospitality today..." Giselle felt a bit triumphant seeing Chloe retreat, but she struggled to get out of bed to see her off.
Jonathan noticed he had neglected Chloe too much.
"I'll walk you out," he said, standing up.
"No need, I'll take a cab to Valley of Hope Hospital to get my car."
Chloe smiled and pulled out her Tesla key card from her bag. "A little trick that Mr. King saw through. Having Mr. King send me off would be too embarrassing."
Her expression was calm, and her smile had a hint of professionalism. Jonathan felt puzzled but couldn't see through her facade.
What was going on?
Suddenly she was talkative, smiling so distantly and politely. Chloe was acting strange.
Before Jonathan could think further, Chloe had already nodded to the three and walked out of the hospital room.
She walked quickly, hailed a cab at the hospital entrance, and suddenly started crying.
Tomorrow, she'd get a tattoo to cover the "King" on her arm. This was the end of it.
Their beginning was forced by her, so she'd be the one to end it.
Giselle's hospital was twenty minutes from Valley of Hope Hospital. When Chloe arrived, the police had just removed the caution tape and were about to tow Luke's Cullinan.
Luke had his arm around Elsa's waist, while Elsa stood staring ahead, wrapped in a thick blanket Luke had found somewhere.
"What happened?" Chloe asked, shocked.
"There was a homemade bomb in the car, the police need to investigate," Elsa said.
Chloe looked sharply into Elsa's eyes. "Karen's back."
It was a statement.
Elsa nodded slightly, that was her first thought too.
"I'm already looking into it. What you need to do is go home and rest," Luke tightened his hold on Elsa's waist. "Let's go home."
