Chapter 36: Noodles
"Fine!" Elsa's eyes were a bit moist before she quickly turned her head. Luke felt happy when she responded.
"What did you just call me? Say it again." He kissed her forehead.
Elsa looked up at him, puzzled.
"What did you say to Karen earlier?" Luke's hand was already caressing her waist.
Elsa thought for a moment. "I called you my man." Her face suddenly blushed.
"Then you should always remember these words in your heart," Luke said.
"Not now..." Her words were suddenly cut off by Luke's lips.
Elsa still wasn't sure what kind of feelings Luke had for her. She didn't think that he liked her. After all, since she met Luke, she hadn't done anything that would make him admire her.
Luke also couldn't clarify his feelings for her. He hated her cruelty, but his liking for her was genuine.
At night, Elsa naturally slept beside Luke. Her sleep quality was poor, struggling in nightmares, until a strong arm held her, kissing her tear-stained face, then pressing her against his chest.
The strong heartbeat unexpectedly calmed her down, and she fell back asleep in a daze.
Luke couldn't sleep and messaged Karida on Facebook Messenger.
Luke: [Elsa often has nightmares at night and unconsciously cries. What's the issue?]
Karida, who was also awake, replied quickly.
Karida: [Post-traumatic stress after a severe trauma.]
Luke: [What should I do?]
Karida: [I'm a surgeon, not a psychologist!]
In Karida's view, Elsa was charming indeed, but much more troublesome than Karen. Marrying her wasn't worth it.
Luke tossed his phone aside without responding.
It seemed that Elsa's mother's suicide had a significant impact on her. He should take her to see a psychologist in a few days.
When Luke woke up in the morning, he subconsciously reached out to the person beside him, but Elsa was no longer there.
"Luke, don't move. What do you need? I'll get it for you." Karen's anxious voice sounded, making him frown.
"Why are you here?" Luke asked.
'Where did Elsa go?' he thought.
"I..." Karen felt a bit embarrassed. "I'm taking care of you because I'm worried. I specially made soup for you."
She opened the food box beside her, which was filled with various foods on the small table by the bed.
Karen scooped a spoonful of chicken soup and carefully brought it to Luke's lips.
"Karen, thank you. You don't need to come anymore. Elsa will take care of me." Luke just turned his head away to show his refusal.
"Luke, I know I've been too willful about this, so you won't forgive me. But if Grandpa were alive, he would want us to be okay..." Karen started to cry again.
Luke couldn't say anything more and silently took the soup bowl, finishing it in one go.
When Elsa entered and saw the scene, she couldn't help but laugh. Her laughter drew a glare from Karen.
"Sorry. Carry on," Elsa said, about to leave.
"What did you bring?" Luke noticed the lunchbox in her hand and asked.
Elsa had gone home to cook. She had her long curly hair casually clipped behind her head, yesterday's white dress replaced by a loose T-shirt and jeans.
Luke noticed Elsa had a perfect face. The plainer she dressed, the more beautiful she looked. He squinted at her, feeling a bit excited.
"Noodles," Elsa said, pretending to be angry.
Leslie made a decent income as a simultaneous interpreter, but most of the money went to Vincent's treatment. On Christmas or the children's birthdays, the most common food she made was noodles.
After Leslie passed away, noodles became Elsa's favorite dish.
Last night, she vaguely remembered Luke was comforting her to sleep. Elsa felt warm inside, and woke up feeling surprisingly happy in the morning. So she got up early to make noodles at home, wanting to thank him.
She got up too early, and the supermarket wasn't open yet. Elsa only had some vegetables in her fridge, so she made vegetarian noodles. She was worried Luke wouldn't like it. But seeing the empty soup bowl on the table, she realized he might be too full to eat the noodles.
