Chapter 153 Joseph and Golf
When Jonathan rolled up, he spotted Elsa totally zoned into her phone.
They had a golf date lined up later, so Elsa rocked a ponytail, a pink polo, white shorts, and matching pink golf shoes and hat.
Jonathan plopped down across from her, thinking she looked super young.
"Do you even play golf?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
A pretty girl from a broke background who played golf probably dated rich dudes. But Elsa seemed emotionally distant, not the type to cozy up to wealthy guys.
Green fees could cost a fortune, way more than she could swing before.
"If I told you that I didn't know how to play until the last time we talked, would you be shocked?" Elsa said, picking up on Jonathan's doubts.
She used to joke on the phone that she sucked at playing but was great at picking up balls. Truth was, she didn't know squat about golf and had just learned to caddy.
So as to marry Luke, Elsa taught herself Texas Hold'em at his casino.
Elsa was sharp and picked things up quick. She could win money right away, so she didn't get why people blew a ton on coaches and still lost after years.
"Did you hire a coach?" Jonathan asked, impressed.
"Nah, I just learned from videos at home."
"Is that even possible?"
"My skills aren't top-notch, but they're decent."
To Elsa, sports like equestrian, skiing, or golf were all the same. With careful observation and practice, she could nail it.
They had a chill French dinner from 6 PM to 8 PM before heading to the golf course.
From a distance, she saw someone in the lounge area waving at Jonathan. That had to be Joseph.
As Elsa got closer, she noticed Joseph was way more handsome than in his photos. His profile said he was two years younger than Jonathan, almost 40.
Joseph was lean and stern, rocking a white polo, light blue pants, white golf shoes, and gold-rimmed glasses framing curious eyes.
He didn't look like any typical leader.
"Hey, Mr. Garcia, I'm Elsa Miller, your caddie for today." Before Jonathan could introduce her, Elsa extended her hand enthusiastically.
"Can I shake it?" Joseph looked at Jonathan with a half-smile, curious about their relationship.
"Of course, Ms. Miller is just my friend," Jonathan said, catching the drift.
They let Elsa be the caddie.
Elsa's long legs in white shorts caught everyone's eye as she ran around picking up balls and raking sand.
"Bringing a woman to play golf isn't like you," Joseph said, swinging his club.
"Elsa has something to discuss with you," Jonathan said, giving Elsa a meaningful look.
"Jonathan, you know my position," Joseph quickly clarified, sensing something was off.
Joseph's role involved people's safety, so he couldn't afford to be careless.
"It's not what you think," Jonathan said, knowing Elsa wasn't reckless, which was why he introduced her.
Joseph observed Elsa, and she kept her eyes on him.
Golf revealed character. Joseph avoided OB stakes and water hazards, never taking risks to win.
This showed Joseph was reserved and cautious. Such a person wouldn't seek "fortune in danger" and wouldn't be easily swayed by interests.
Watching him, Elsa felt a bit more at ease.
