Chapter 26 Hunted Down
Nine o'clock at night.
As Luke's car returned to his regular mansion, Elsa was curled up and asleep by the courtyard gate.
The driver flashed the high beams, but Elsa didn't stir, prompting him to honk.
Max, seated in the passenger seat, quickly gestured to stop the driver.
"Elsa has been waiting for a long time, she's already asleep," Max whispered to Luke as he watched the expressionless Luke open the door and pick her up.
"You're back?" Elsa opened her sleepy eyes, naturally resting her head on Luke's neck.
Her breath brushed against his neck, causing Luke's breathing to become slightly heavier.
Luke remained silent, carrying her through the courtyard into the foyer and up the stairs.
"Missed you," Elsa mumbled vaguely in his neck when she noticed his silence, then sought his lips.
Luke's heart trembled violently at these words, but he said nothing, only holding the back of her head and deepening the kiss.
In a night of passion, when Luke woke up, Elsa was already gone.
Luke got out of bed to check the trash can.
Sure enough, the few condoms were taken away as part of her "evidence."
Last night, Elsa was more passionate and proactive than their first-time making love. Although Luke enjoyed it, he had already discovered some clues about her behavior.
During their lovemaking, she deliberately punctured the condoms with a ring.
Just like the second time they met at the card table, she remained composed, showing no signs of panic.
Just like that time, he saw through her scheme at a glance.
However, Luke had decided to marry her, unafraid of her using a child to threaten him.
Unnoticed by Luke, his usually aloof expression now bore a faint smile.
Suddenly, he didn't want to tell her about getting married with her, as he found the feeling of being hunted quite enjoyable.
Upon her return, Elsa's first move was to buy a pregnancy test, ready to check if she was pregnant at any time.
She couldn't guarantee that being pregnant would ensure Luke marrying her. But if she did conceive, it would make it more difficult for Karen to marry into the Taylor family, which was enough for her.
She had calculated her ovulation period when she went to see Luke, confident that this time she might conceive. Unexpectedly, less than a week later, her period came early.
She had failed, perhaps even God didn't want to see her resort to such revenge. Elsa thought helplessly.
Meanwhile, Luke had also uncovered David's background.
He was a man who made his fortune through speculation and had abandoned his wife.
Elsa was the eldest daughter who left with the abandoned wife back then.
Max was thorough in his work and also investigated Elsa's mother, Leslie.
Compared to David, Leslie's background was much more mysterious. Max only found out about her arrival to Maplewood City at 22 years old to marry David. But before the age of 22, her past was completely blank, with no information available.
She seemed to have appeared without origin and left mysteriously.
Leslie had a dignified and beautiful face, and was an excellent simultaneous interpreter in her lifetime. At her age, being fluent in French was rare, and being a simultaneous interpreter represented extraordinary family background.
Yet Leslie's background remained a mystery, with no information found despite all efforts.
Why did she commit suicide? Was it related to the Miller family?
Luke looked through Leslie's photos from her lifetime, feeling a bit emotional.
Elsa resembled her mother a lot, with almost identical features, but while Leslie was reserved and dignified, Elsa had a fearless personality and a more rebellious demeanor.
Her efforts to get close to him without wanting his money must have been to embarrass the Miller family.
