Chapter 196 Mockery
When Elsa and Luke pulled up to the old house, Aaron's family was already there.
Debbie's smile disappeared the second she saw Elsa. Their last run-in still stung, and Elsa, with a smirk, didn't bother saying hi.
"Elsa, hug!"
Nathan was the happiest to see her. He wriggled out of his mom Holly Taylor's arms and ran over, chubby arms wide open.
The kid had definitely put on some weight since the last time Elsa saw him.
"Hey there, Nathan. Long time no see." Elsa scooped him up, giving his chubby cheeks a playful pinch. Her mood lifted instantly.
She remembered how Nathan had stood up for her when Margaret tried to frame her.
Looking at Nathan's adorable face, Elsa couldn't help but wonder if Luke looked like this as a kid. She really liked Nathan.
"In this cold weather, Nathan insisted on wearing a little suit today because he knew he'd see you. He really likes you," Holly said.
Holly was a sweet, plump middle-aged woman with a kind face. Watching Elsa play with Nathan, she smiled warmly. Aaron nodded and smiled at Elsa too.
"Really? Thanks for remembering me, buddy." Elsa pinched Nathan's cheek and flashed a bright smile at Aaron and Holly before sitting down. Nathan naturally plopped down next to her.
Next to Holly was a girl with a high ponytail, smoky eye makeup, and a crop top under her fur coat. Her sharp eyes made her stand out. This had to be Luke's cousin, Jasmine.
Elsa thought she looked familiar, but maybe it was just a coincidence.
"Luke, long time no see!" Jasmine hugged Luke as soon as he walked in, acting even more childish than Nathan.
"Do you think you're Nathan, always wanting a hug?" Luke teased, but he was grinning. He spun Jasmine around before setting her down and sitting next to Elsa.
"I missed you," Jasmine pouted.
"Can you grow up a bit?" Luke playfully tapped her nose, his tone indulgent.
Jasmine didn't even glance at Elsa. Even when Holly introduced Elsa as Luke's wife, Jasmine found an excuse to chat with Luke instead of saying hi.
Elsa was puzzled; Jasmine seemed really hostile.
But Elsa didn't care much about how others treated her. She acted like she didn't notice, staying cool and composed.
Luke noticed Jasmine's weird behavior too.
"Jasmine, why didn't you say hi to Elsa?" Luke asked seriously.
Jasmine curled her lips slightly. Sitting across from Elsa, she finally glanced at her and said with a half-smile, "Hello, Elsa."
There was a hint of mockery in her tone.
"Ms. Taylor, hello." Elsa smiled back nonchalantly. She figured Jasmine didn't want to get close, so she called her Ms. Taylor, like a stranger.
Unexpectedly, Jasmine's smirk grew.
"I heard Luke married Ms. Miller. I thought it was Karen. I never approved of Luke's engagement to Karen; how could anyone from the Miller family be worthy of Luke?" Jasmine's words caught Elsa off guard.
Elsa knew the following words would be unpleasant, not worth her attention, so she picked up her fork and continued eating.
Sure enough, after trashing Karen, Jasmine said, "I don't know what your family does for a living; why haven't I heard of them?"
