Chapter 326 Chloe's Concerns

Luke left after causing enough trouble, and it was already noon.

Elsa felt sore all over and didn't want to move, so she curled up in bed, thinking she would take another nap.

Leo couldn't find her yesterday and sent a message asking about her. She only had time to reply at noon.

[I was too tired yesterday, so I went home first and forgot to tell you,] Elsa said.

Leo replied quickly: [Elsa, do you think I believe that?]

When Leo couldn't find Elsa in the hall, Luke was also nowhere to be seen. He had reason to believe that she had been taken away by him.

Elsa was silent. Whether Leo believed her or not, there was nothing she could do.

Leo had promised to give her two days off after the exhibition, so she naturally continued to rest in the afternoon.

Elsa wanted to take a nap, but her mind couldn't settle down. All she could think about was Luke holding her and calling her "baby," kissing her earlobe.

They had been apart for so long, yet her reaction to him was even more intense, and she couldn't deceive herself.

Of course, Luke had noticed too. He was so attentive; otherwise, he wouldn't be so determined to remarry her. But she had already made up her mind and couldn't turn back.

She tossed and turned in bed until after 5 PM when the doorbell rang.

It was Chloe, standing at the door with bags of groceries and two bottles of wine.

"This is your home. If you keep being so polite every time you come, how am I supposed to feel?" Seeing Chloe, Elsa's mood eased a bit. She quickly opened the door and let Chloe in.

Chloe suddenly stared at her face and neck, "I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

Elsa's cheeks flushed as she immediately understood the implication of her words.

"Luke was here," she said, feeling embarrassed, her voice much lower.

"It could only be him," Chloe noticed her discomfort.

"Today we're having a barbecue," she changed the subject and went into the kitchen, bringing the electric grill to the living room.

Chloe had brought two bottles of gin. Elsa got some ice from the fridge, and the two of them sat on the floor, eating barbecue and drinking.

Chloe didn't eat much meat but took two big gulps of the gin.

"You have something on your mind," Elsa said, hitting the nail on the head.

Chloe was similar to her in that they both appeared exceptionally stable emotionally, though they expressed it differently.

Elsa's stability came from having experienced the darkest moments of life, after which nothing could hurt her.

Chloe's stability came from growing up in a sheltered environment, with no storms to weather. She had received ample love and attention from a young age, so giving some away occasionally didn't hurt her much. She wasn't even angry when someone took a small financial advantage of her.

Because she lacked nothing, there were few things in the world that could trouble her.

Her unusual behavior surprised Elsa.

"Yes," Chloe smiled, "but without drinking, I don't know how to share it with you."

"It's okay, say it when you're ready," Elsa nodded, filling their glasses, "I'll drink with you."

She understood that feeling, just like she didn't share everything with Chloe. Some things felt better when spoken, but others hurt more with each telling, so it was better to keep them inside and force oneself to forget.

Chloe seemed to want to talk today but needed the right moment.

Elsa had a hunch it was about feelings, related to Jonathan, because aside from emotions, Chloe's life seemed free of other troubles.

They ate barbecue and drank from before six until late at night, finishing the two bottles of gin.

"Is there any other alcohol?" Chloe asked.

Elsa rummaged through the fridge and found two cans of beer.

She also ordered a bottle of regular red wine through a delivery app, drinking while waiting.

"I don't even know why I like him so much. By the time I realized it, it was too late," Chloe said lazily, leaning on the table after finishing the beer.

Since she was willing to open up, Elsa naturally listened attentively.

"Does he know?" By "he," she meant Jonathan.

"He knows. He said my eyes give it away."

Indeed, even someone as oblivious as Elsa had noticed. A man as experienced as Jonathan couldn't possibly be unaware.

"That makes sense."

"My parents want me to go on blind dates, but I don't want to," Chloe's eyes were getting misty as the alcohol took effect.

She finally couldn't hold back her feelings and went to find Jonathan.

"I told him, 'Just say the word, and I won't go on any blind dates. I can wait for you forever.'"

Elsa was deeply shocked. She had known Chloe for so long and had never seen her in love. She hadn't expected Chloe to be so intense. But then, wasn't she the same? Seemingly indifferent, but once in love, more obsessive than anyone.

"What did he say?" Elsa asked.

"He said I should listen to my parents and go see the world."

Chloe's eyelashes were wet, and Elsa felt a pang in her heart.
