Chapter 49 I Like You
Before, Elsa had heard from Chloe and other friends that Jonny liked her. He made a lot of effort to approach her.
He dropped out of his master's program halfway through, using connections to shift to the same advisor as Elsa. When he was abroad, he took special care of her. What was lacking was just that unspoken "I like you."
But Elsa had never thought of Jonny in any other way. She only saw him as a friend and a brother.
"Don't be like this, Jonny." Elsa lowered her head, unable to meet his eager gaze.
"Elsa, you know I like you, right?" Jonny, who had drunk too much and was no longer holding back, said, "You don't love Luke, you just want to use him to get back at the Miller family. You shouldn't gamble away your future happiness!"
Jonny's loud voice attracted the attention of the people around them amidst the noisy music.
He knew about her situation! Elsa had always thought he didn't know the relationship between her and the Miller family!
"Jonny, you've had too much to drink. Let me take you home." Elsa didn't want to talk further, she just stood up and pulled Jonny's arm.
"If you want to get back at the Miller family, not only can the Taylor family do it, the Jones family can do it too!" Jonny stood up and reached out to embrace Elsa.
"Jonny, let go. We can discuss this later."
Elsa found it difficult to deal with a drunk person and couldn't break free for a while, so she could only pat his back and advise him gently.
Jonny just held her tightly, muttering to himself. With the courage he gained from the alcohol, he became more reckless.
"Don't let go. I love you more than Luke does, and I can definitely take better care of you. Elsa, trust me!" he said.
"You need to let go first," Elsa replied.
"Luke is just a passing fancy for you, and he won't treat you well. Elsa, I love you."
Elsa was trapped in Jonny's embrace, feeling at a loss for a moment. She should have blocked Jonny on Facebook long ago!
"Jonny, it's not appropriate to hold onto my wife like that in public!"
Luke's voice came from above, making Elsa's scalp tingle for a moment.
She was pulled out of Jonny's arms by a strong hand. Although she didn't turn around, the strength with which Luke held her waist indicated that he was very angry.
"Luke, Elsa doesn't love you! You don't love her either! Being together is wrong for you both." Jonny rambled drunkenly, confronting Luke.
"I love her, she will only be happy with me," Luke said. "Jonny, if you want to go to jail, I don't mind helping you out!" Luke disdained arguing with a drunkard. With a single glance, someone went over to support Jonny.
"Take Jonny home." The chill in his tone made Elsa shiver involuntarily.
"Um, Jonny has had too much to drink, please don't mind him." Elsa quickly put on a smile to explain matters.
Luke remained silent, forcefully taking Elsa back to the car from the nightclub.
"I didn't..." Elsa wanted to explain to him, but seeing Luke's cold expression, she immediately fell silent.
The driver was driving in front, and Luke raised the partition between them.
A huge sense of oppression enveloped them. Elsa nervously swallowed.
She still carried the scent of Jonny's alcohol. How was she going to explain this to Luke?
"I was wrong! I shouldn't have gone to see Jonny!"
As Luke pressed down on her, she obediently closed her eyes and apologized.
"Is what Jonny said really true?" Luke lifted her chin, their breaths mingling.
"What are you talking about?"
At first, Elsa didn't react, but after a moment's thought, she understood what he was asking.
"Of course not! I love you, of course." Elsa quickly turned the tables, holding Luke's face in her hands, smiling and leaning in. "The first statement must be false. As for the one about you not loving me, I'm not sure." Elsa flashed a cute smile.
She was glad she had left a note for Luke in advance, otherwise it would have been even harder to explain.
