Chapter 94 Are You Going to Ruin My Family?
"I've got my own selfish reasons for doing this, but it also helps you weed out an unqualified bidder, Mr. Green. It's a win-win."
Elsa didn't want to dive into family stuff, and Jonathan could tell.
Jonathan smiled and didn't push. "By the way, thanks for helping me spot such a big risk."
"No need to be so polite," Elsa said, shaking her head.
Jonathan cut all the steak and put two pieces on Elsa's plate. She instinctively refused, "I can't eat that much."
"You're too thin. You need to eat more," Jonathan insisted, not accepting her refusal.
Cutting steak for someone he'd only met twice and sharing from his own plate was definitely against etiquette. Someone of Jonathan's stature would surely know this.
The only reasonable explanation was that Jonathan was showing goodwill to Elsa, indicating she was one of his own.
"Mr. Green, you seem to like me a lot," Elsa said bluntly, putting a small piece of steak in her mouth.
"What makes you say that?" Jonathan raised an eyebrow.
"I don't think you would do this for any other girl you've only met twice."
"You're very smart," Jonathan agreed.
"Do you intend to ruin my family, Mr. Green?" Elsa asked.
"Elsa Miller, you're really direct." Jonathan almost choked on his water. He coughed and cleared his throat.
"If I said yes, what would you do?" Jonathan was curious.
"I'd stay away from you, Mr. Green."
"Even if you might need my help in the future, you'd still stay away?" Jonathan asked.
"Yes," Elsa nodded without hesitation.
"Do you love Luke Taylor that much?" Jonathan questioned.
Love was a foreign concept to Elsa, so she shook her head.
"Not really, but he's good to me. I can't betray him," Elsa replied straightforwardly.
Jonathan was amused by Elsa's serious demeanor. He reached out and ruffled her hair.
"Elsa, you do have some charm, but to me, you're about the same age as Eric Green. My affection for you is like an adult's affection for a child. Confidence is good, but don't be overly confident."
Jonathan's tone was teasing, and his slightly raised shoulders showed he was holding back laughter.
Elsa's face instantly turned red.
"But seriously, I owe you one. Is there anything you want in return?" Jonathan asked seriously, seeing Elsa's flushed face.
"Not at the moment," Elsa shook her head, but not wanting to miss such a good opportunity, she added, "Can I ask for it later if I think of something?"
"Of course," Jonathan agreed easily.
They continued their meal until almost two o'clock. When it was time to go back to work, Elsa said goodbye to Jonathan and returned to the 15th floor.
"You wretched woman, you caused me so much trouble!" As soon as Elsa stepped out of the elevator, someone cursed at her, grabbed her hair, and dragged her aside.
Caught off guard, Elsa could only struggle desperately.
"Who are you? Let go of me," Elsa reached out to scratch the person's hand.
"Who am I? Take a good look!" The person yanked Elsa's hair, bringing a greasy face close to hers. It was Emily!
Wasn't Emily supposed to be in jail? How did she get out early and find Elsa's workplace?
"Emily White, how did you..." Before Elsa could finish her sentence, Emily slammed her head against the elevator wall.
Elsa's head buzzed, tears streaming down from the pain.
"Security! Help!" Elsa shouted, but Emily slammed her again just as a patrolling security guard approached from the other side of the hallway.
"What's going on?" the guard asked from a distance. Seeing the situation turning bad, Emily abandoned Elsa and ran off.
