Chapter 128 Can You Let Me Go?
Chapter 128 Can You Let Me Go?
Edmund's face changed unpredictably with anger, and his body was trembling violently.
After a while, Edmund calmed down a bit.
Edmund said with a disappointed look, "Ever since we've been married, I've never been so disappointed in you. Nora betrayed Isaac. I can understand you despising her. But I can't understand or forgive you for being so cruel and despicable to her."
Katie fumed, "You can't forgive me? I did all this for Isaac. Yet you don't take my side? If it weren't for your constant favoritism towards Nora three years ago, threatening Isaac to marry her for Nora's sake, would I have gone to such lengths to drive her away from Isaac now?"
Edmund shook his head, looking disappointed, and said, "After Nora left that year, don't you know what Isaac was like? If Nora hadn't come back, Isaac would only deteriorate. Further, his life would never get back on track!"
Katie, with a stern face, refused to admit that Isaac's recovery was because of Nora.
Edmund continued, "Do you think I made Isaac marry Nora? If Isaac didn't want to marry her, how could I force him? It wouldn't have been possible! I just gave him a reason to marry Nora naturally."
Katie clenched her fists, looking extremely unpleasant.
Katie still refused to admit that Isaac, whom she valued the most, would not forget a woman who betrayed him.
All that Edmund said was false.
Isaac couldn't possibly want to marry her after being betrayed by Nora!
"This is my fault, not yours." Edmund suddenly laughed self-deprecatingly.
Katie frowned at Edmund.
Edmund said, "It's my fault for giving you too much power and giving you the opportunity to do such despicable things!"
Then, Edmund called his assistant and ordered, "Arrange immediately to transfer all of Katie's bodyguards elsewhere, have my people protect her, and change the caretakers for her. From today onwards, take good care of her daily life. If Katie wants to do anything else, she must report to me. Only after my approval can the subordinates act. If anyone goes against my orders and secretly follows Katie's commands, that will bego against me, and I won't let them off the hook!"
The assistant immediately took the order to arrange everything.
Katie was shocked, staring at Edmund in disbelief. "Edmund, are you trying to confine me? Are you actually imprisoning me like a prisoner for Nora? Are you as confused as Isaac, bewitched by that seductress Nora?"
Katie was furious, breathing heavily, looking ready to explode at any moment.
But this time, Edmund didn't nervously try to appease her as before.
Edmund still looked disappointed and indifferent. "I'm not doing this for Nora but for the Porter family! With what happened today, the Porter Group's stocks will definitely plummet tomorrow, losing at least billions, all caused by you! If I continue to indulge you, letting you run amok, the Porter family will be bankrupt sooner or later because of you!"
Katie was fuming with anger.
But inside, she couldn't control her panic. 'If the Porter family's business really got into trouble, I would be the culprit!'
"It's not my fault. It's all because of Nora..."
Edmund shook his head in disappointment. She was truly unrepentant.
Without saying more, Edmund leaned on his cane, walking out of the room with a heavy heart.
Isaac quickly arrived at the hospital.
But when Isaac reached the door of Nora's ward, Mortimer stopped him.
"Move aside!" Isaac coldly ordered.
Mortimer said in a deep voice, "Nora needs rest now. Don't disturb her."
Isaac said, "I won't disturb her."
"Do you still not understand? The closer you get to Nora, the more unfortunate she becomes," Mortimer said.
Isaac clenched his fists, his face turning sullen.
Although he could never accept that he was the root of Nora's misfortune, everything Nora suffered this time was truly because of him.
Although he had immediately instructed Wesley to follow Nora and find a way to save her as soon as he saw Nora being taken away, he was still one step too late compared to Mortimer.
Isaac composed himself and said sternly, "Cut the crap. Move aside!"
Mortimer shook his head. "I won't let you bother Nora. Nora doesn't want to see you now."
Isaac said, "Whether Nora wants to see me or not is not up to you! Since you are so ignorant and unwilling to step aside, don't blame me for being impolite!"
As soon as Isaac finished speaking, he made a direct move against Mortimer.
Mortimer did not back down.
But before they could fight for long, the door was opened.
Nora appeared at the door, struggling to speak, "Stop."
As she spoke, the pain from her injured tongue made her gasp for breath.
Isaac and Mortimer immediately stopped.
Mortimer walked up to Nora first, saying, "Why do you come out? Your tongue is injured. Don't strain yourself speaking. It could worsen the injury."
Nora shook her head, indicating that she was fine.
Then, she calmly looked at Isaac and asked vaguely, "You rushed to see me. Do you have something to say?"
Isaac looked down at her.
But seeing Nora bruised and swollen, pale-faced, he couldn't bring himself to say anything.
He just wanted to see her but hadn't figured out what to say.
"If you have nothing to say, then I need to rest, so please don't disturb me," Nora said, then turned back into the ward.
When Nora was about to close the door, Isaac followed her in.
Nora frowned.
Isaac said, "I'll stay with you silently and won't disturb you."
Before Nora could say anything, Mortimer came over, ready to push Isaac out.
But Isaac dodged to the side, avoiding Mortimer's hand.
Mortimer said in a deep voice, "Isaac, Nora needs rest now. Don't disturb her!"
"I won't disturb her," Isaac replied.
Isaac looked at Mortimer and said seriously, "Either let me stay, or I'll take Nora home."
Mortimer furrowed his brows, a hint of coldness in his eyes.
The atmosphere became tense once again.
Nora said to Mortimer, "Go busy, and I'll talk to him."
Mortimer didn't want them to be alone.
But in the end, he respected Nora's decision and nodded gently. "Okay, I'll be outside guarding. Call me if you need anything."
"Thank you." Nora nodded gratefully.
Mortimer gave Isaac a warning look and then left the ward.
After closing the door of the ward, Isaac reached out to help Nora.
Nora's body stiffened for a moment, then allowed Isaac to support her and walked back to the bed.
Nora sat back on the bed, leaning against the headboard, looking calmly at Isaac, and slowly spoke, "You see, your grandmother detests me so much. As long as you get close to me. she won't let me off. Last time, she wanted to sell me abroad, while this time, she wanted to find someone to gang-rape me. I don't know what other means she will use on me next. I know you hate me and want to retaliate against me, but I have paid a high enough price. Can you let me go?"
