Chapter 45 Nora Admits She Framed Kalista

Half an hour later, the light outside the operating room went off.
The door opened and the doctor emerged.
Isaac's weary eyes darkened as they fell upon the doctor.

"How's Nora doing?"

His voice was husky and laced with a chilling coldness as he spoke slowly. Despite the absence of any explicit threats, the doctor felt immense pressure and the breath of death upon him.

The doctor’s face was pale and his body trembled. He hurriedly replied, "Don't worry, Mr. Porter. Ms. Nora is no longer in danger. The dagger missed all the vital spots and didn't penetrate deeply—it's just a superficial wound. There's no need for a hospital stay. Wounds like these generally heal in about a week. If you're concerned, you can have Ms. Nora stay in the hospital overnight, and if the wound shows no sign of infection by morning, she can be discharged. As for changing the dressings, that can be done at home or back here at the hospital. In a week's time, we'll simply remove the stitches."

After hearing the doctor's explanation, Isaac finally relaxed.

Worried about the potential for infection, he had the doctor arrange a room for Nora to be observed overnight.

He personally took care of her admission paperwork.

Meanwhile, the doctor had the nurse escort Nora to a private room.

Nora sat on the hospital bed, knees hugged to her chest. Her eyelids drooped, long lashes veiling clear, forlorn eyes, her gaze tinged with solitude and melancholy.

Suddenly, the door to the room was kicked open from outside, and Kalista stormed in furiously.

"Nora, why did you frame me?!"

Kalista's eyes were red and swollen. They were filled with bloodshot rage as she glared at Nora. She was still in her evening gown from the party, stained with Nora's blood, her meticulously styled hair now a disheveled mess.

Her own face was red and swollen—as if she'd been hitting herself—she looked crazed.

Nora glanced up, her gaze calm but carrying a trace of mockery.

"You're despicable!"

That look in Nora's eyes completely infuriated Kalista. She rushed to the bedside and grabbed Nora's throat.

Nora was about to push her away when she heard a familiar set of footsteps approaching. She retracted her hand, allowing Kalista's fingers to tighten around her throat, a pained, vulnerable expression crossing her face.

Kalista stared down venomously, hands firmly choking Nora, her heart overwhelmed with fury. She wished for Nora's demise, desperate to release the intense anger stemming from being set up and publicly humiliated.

With thoughts of revenge consuming her mind, Kalista failed to notice someone approaching the room.

"Kalista, what in the world are you doing?!"
A furious shout suddenly burst from the doorway.

In an instant, a tall, muscular figure strode swiftly to the bedside, grasping Kalista's hand firmly and twisting it back.

Pain shot through Kalista's hand, and she reluctantly released her grip from Nora's throat.

She was then flung across the room, her body crashing into the wall several meters away before collapsing to the ground in a disheveled heap.

Kalista looked up in anger, but her expression turned to shock and fear as she recognized the man standing before the hospital bed.

"Isaac, let me explain; it's not what it looks like," she pleaded, her whole body trembling as tears spilled over.

"Not what it looks like? Are you suggesting I'm blind?" Isaac's voice was icy with confrontation.

Kalista sobbed, pointing angrily at Nora, "I was framed by her! She slapped me first at the party, swelling my face. Later, when I said I'd report her, she was scared you'd punish her, so she stabbed herself and blamed me. Isaac, I'm telling you the truth. Look at my swollen face. You have to believe me; don't be fooled by her!"

Listening to her explanation, Isaac's aura grew even colder.

Disappointment filled his eyes.

"When I arrived, you were on top of her, with the weapon still in your hand. And just before I pulled you off, you were choking her. Tell me. Is all this a misunderstanding?"

Kalista was shaking with fury but couldn't find the words to defend herself.

She turned to Nora and shouted, "Nora, tell Isaac I've been set up by you! Tell Isaac that the wounds on you are self-inflicted; say it!"

Nora gently pressed her own throat, coughing twice in pain.

Then she looked up weakly at Kalista and said, "I wish I could take the fall for you, but the truth is right in front of us; I can't make things up. The handprints on your face, with the thumbprint pointing toward your ear - clearly, you did it to yourself. If someone else had slapped you, the thumbprint would be pointing towards your nose."

Isaac scrutinized Kalista's cheek.

As expected, the thumbprint was oriented toward her ear.

This proved that the slap marks were self-inflicted.

As for why she would slap herself, it was apparent she meant to frame Nora!

Kalista's face was a picture of panic.

She hadn't even considered this!

Biting her lip in fury, Kalista conceded, "Fine, I admit the slap mark on my face was self-inflicted. But I didn't cause your injuries! You saw me hitting myself, fearing I'd frame you, so you stabbed yourself and pinned it on me. Isaac, I swear, every word I've said is true!"

Isaac shook his head in disappointment.

"After all of this, you persist in refusing to repent, continuing to deflect blame. You've disappointed me."

Kalista was crying so hard she struggled to breathe, "Everything I've said is true, Isaac, why won't you believe me?"

"Nora, just tell Isaac the truth; why are you trying to hurt me?!"

Nora sighed, "Alright, if you want me to admit it, then I will. The cuts on me are my own doing. I was out of my mind, and I hurt myself. Are you satisfied now? I've confessed as you asked; now, please leave my ward. Stop bothering me; I need to rest. I'm really tired."

Kalista turned to Isaac, her face full of urgency, "Isaac, did you hear that? Nora admitted it! She confessed; she inflicted her own wounds; I was framed by her. You have to believe me now, okay?"
