Chapter 230 You Can Have Any Woman You Want
Nora didn't stay out for long.
Rhys had been gone for less than half an hour when she came to.
First thing she saw when she opened her eyes was Isaac sitting by the bed.
Her face changed, and her heart skipped a beat.
She quickly pulled her hand back and scooted into the corner, eyeing Isaac warily.
Seeing her all defensive, Isaac felt a pang in his heart. But he quickly pulled himself together and said softly, "You're awake? I've got some food ready. Let me take you downstairs to eat."
He'd heard from the bodyguards that she hadn't eaten anything. She must be starving.
She was quite thin, and if she missed a few more meals, she'd be nothing but skin and bones.
"When will you let me go?" Nora asked quietly. She had no appetite at all.
Isaac said bitterly, "I've shown you our marriage certificate and proof of our relationship. Do you still not believe me?"
Nora said, "Whether what you say is true or not doesn't matter. I just want to go back to Mortimer. I just want to follow my heart!"
Isaac said sternly, "You are my wife. I won't let you go. You must stay by my side."
Nora said without hesitation, "Then let's get a divorce. I'll leave after the divorce."
Isaac's pupils contracted, and he clenched his fists tightly.
Nora said, "Even if we are really married, we can still get a divorce. Once we're divorced, we won't be a couple anymore. Will you let me go then?"
Isaac closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to suppress his irritation and anger. "I won't divorce you. Since you married me, you'll be my wife for life. I will never divorce you!" he said firmly.
Nora frowned. "Why? You don't even love me. Why won't you divorce me?"
Isaac replied, "Who said I don't love you?"
Nora said, "Google."
Isaac was silent.
Nora said, "That guy named Griffin mentioned your name in front of me. When I got back, I searched for information about you and your wife. Google said you don't love your wife, that you have someone you like, and that you were forced into your marriage."
Isaac gritted his teeth. "Don't believe everything you read online. It's all nonsense. I have always loved you. From beginning to end, the only person I've ever loved is you!"
Nora's heart trembled. A trace of pain spread in her heart.
What was going on?
Why did it hurt so much to hear Isaac say he loved her?
Nora took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "The internet also says we divorced three months ago. Is that fake too?"
Isaac said, "It's fake. We haven't gone through the divorce procedures."
Although they had both signed the divorce agreement, they had never gone to court to finalize the divorce. So, they remained married.
Nora had thought that signing the divorce agreement meant they were divorced. And Isaac could finalize the divorce even without her presence.
And that was exactly the case.
But Isaac never really wanted to divorce her, so he never went through with the paperwork.
Nora was getting agitated and asked, "What will it take for you to let me go? No matter what happened before, I don't love you now. Can't you just let me go?"
Isaac said, "You do love me. You've just forgotten."
Nora shot back, "If I loved you enough, how could I forget you? I forgot you but remembered Mortimer, which proves I love Mortimer, not you. That's why I forgot everyone else but remembered him! Mr. Porter, you're a big shot with money and power. You can have any woman you want. Why hold on to me? Wouldn't it be better to find someone who loves you?"
Isaac, holding back his anger, said firmly, "You're amnesiac now, so nothing you say is credible. Unless you regain your memory, I won't believe anything you say. I'll assume you still love me and keep you by my side."
Nora was beyond frustrated. She wanted to regain her memory too. But she couldn't remember anything!
"What if I never regain my memory? Do you plan to keep me by your side forever?" Nora asked.
Isaac said, "If you can't remember, then we'll rebuild our relationship."
Nora's face turned red with anger, "You're so unreasonable and domineering!"
Isaac stayed silent. As long as he could have her, what did it matter if he was unreasonable?
He softened his tone and said, "I had a doctor check you, but they couldn't find anything wrong for now. Let's go downstairs to eat first, and after that, I'll take you to the hospital for another check-up."
Nora snapped, "I don't want a check-up!"
Isaac chuckled. "You don't have to. I won't force you. But as I said before, I won't believe anything you say until you regain your memory. I think you just want to stay with me, which is why you don't want to treat your amnesia, right?"
Nora angrily retorted, "No, I don't want to stay here at all. Don't talk nonsense!"
Isaac smirked but said nothing, his expression suggesting that he firmly believed she didn't want to leave and was deliberately avoiding the check-up.
Nora gritted her teeth. "I won't eat. Let's go for the check-up now! The reason I didn't want the check-up is that Mortimer already had someone check me. The royal doctors couldn't find anything. What can your doctor find?"
Isaac said noncommittally, "We'll see."
The royal doctors of Drakonia might not be better than Rhys.
Nora immediately went downstairs. But since Isaac insisted on eating first, she had to wait for him to finish.
However, her stomach growled embarrassingly. Her face turned red, and she had to sit at the dining table and eat with him.
After the meal, Isaac called Rhys, and together with Nora, they headed to the hospital.
