Chapter 179 The Explicit Video Exposed
Everyone's eyes were glued to the stage.
At that moment, Kalista had also made her way up to the stage, her face flushed with a blend of shyness and undeniable excitement.
It was easy to understand why.
Marrying someone as prominent as Isaac was bound to be exhilarating.
"Isaac and Kalista, please exchange engagement tokens to complete the ceremony!"
The master of ceremonies presented the engagement ring on a tray and brought it before Isaac.
Kalista's breaths grew short with excitement.
She thought, 'I've waited so long for this day!
'Soon, I'll be Isaac's fiancée in every sense of the word!
'In no time, I'll be his wife.
'And when Isaac takes over the Porter Family, I'll be the high-and-mighty Mrs. Porter!
'Then, all the high-society wives and debutantes will have to bow and scrape before me.
'And that Nora, that little bitch—oh, how I'm going to make her pay!'
Kalista's excitement grew as she glanced provocatively at Nora, silently daring Nora to challenge her.
But Nora looked unperturbed, even whispering something with Mortimer, seemingly indifferent to her engagement with Isaac.
Kalista felt like she had punched a pillow, her frustration mounting.
She thought, 'Nora must be pretending to be unbothered while secretly hurting inside.
'If Nora really didn't care, why would she have tried to harm me backstage before?
'I'll see how long this bitch can keep up her pretense!'
She turned her gaze back to Isaac with deep affection.
The master of ceremonies called out, "Mr. Isaac, please put the engagement ring on Kalista!"
Kalista raised her left hand, smiling sweetly at Isaac.
Isaac stared at the ring but didn't move.
Kalista's hand got tired, and her smile started to fade.
The crowd began to murmur.
"What's up with Isaac? Why hasn't he put the ring on Kalista?"
"Maybe he doesn't want to marry her."
"Yeah, he looks unhappy. Maybe he doesn't want to get engaged."
"If he didn't want to, why have the ceremony? Maybe he's just too excited."
Worried, Kalista whispered to Isaac, "Isaac, put the ring on me. You can think about whatever later, okay?"
Isaac snapped back to reality.
He glanced at Nora, feeling a heavy weight on his chest.
If not for Mortimer's threats, he'd be standing opposite Nora tonight.
He wanted to marry Nora.
But Mortimer had ruined everything.
"Isaac."
Kalista's voice broke his thoughts.
Isaac picked up the ring.
Just as he was about to put it on Kalista, the lights went out.
"What happened to the lights? Is it a blackout?"
"The power's still on outside. What's going on?"
"Everyone stay put, don't move! Be careful!"
Chaos erupted.
Nora felt the chaos around her as people rushed by, jostling her dangerously close to the edge of falling. One misstep, and she could easily be trampled, risking serious injury.
Just as she was about to lose her balance, a strong, firm hand grabbed her arm.
Before she could react, she was pulled into the embrace of a solid chest, enveloped in a protective hold.
The stranger guided her through the crowd and into a quiet corner, away from the frantic throng.
Even in the relative calm of the corner, the person held her close, refusing to let go.
"Mortimer, is that you?" Nora asked, her breath shaky. Before Nora could get a word in, a spotlight suddenly beamed from the direction of the stage.
In an instant, a series of shocking sounds erupted in the ballroom.
The crowd, once chaotic, came to a complete halt. The noise died away, and every eye turned to the stage.
Nora followed their gaze.
On the wall behind the stage, a video began to play.
And it was anything but appropriate—a disturbing, explicit film.
The leading lady in the video was none other than the evening’s bride-to-be—Kalista!
The leading man's face was completely blurred out, making it impossible to discern his features.
He looked much older, at least sixty.
Nora was stunned.
She thought, 'How could this video be playing here?
'Why would Kalista cheat on Isaac?
'And with such an old man?'
'Oh!
'Mortimer has said he has everything planned and that the engagement wouldn't succeed.
'Could this be his doing?'
Nora instinctively turned to look at the man holding her.
Her eyes widened in shock.
It wasn't Mortimer—it was Isaac!
She thought, 'How did Isaac find me in the dark, crowded room?
'Has he been watching me all along?
'Why is he still concerned about me when he's about to get engaged to Kalista?'
Nora's heart raced.
"Isaac."
Isaac's eyes were gloomy as he stared at the video, a cold aura around him.
He suddenly let go of Nora and strode toward the stage.
He reached the projector quickly and yanked out the power cord.
The video and sound stopped instantly.
At the same time, the lights came back on.
Everyone's eyes darted between Isaac and Kalista.
"Oh my God, I thought Kalista loved Isaac. I can't believe she cheated with an old man."
"Poor Isaac. First Nora, now Kalista. They were lucky to have him. How could they cheat?"
"Why would both Nora and Kalista betray Isaac? Maybe he's impotent and they were unsatisfied?"
"Even if he is, they shouldn't cheat. It's about honesty; they're just lowly!"
"Exactly! If they were unsatisfied, they should've broken up with him first!"
The crowd whispered, some even questioning Isaac.
On stage, Kalista was trembling, looking at Isaac with panic. "Isaac, I was framed.
"I love you. I've always loved you. I never thought of betraying you. Please believe me."
