Chapter 427: What did you do to Magnus?

Barrett trembled even more.

He looked at Mortimer, fear written all over his face, his body shaking like a leaf, unable to say a word.

Mortimer thought Barrett still couldn't speak, so he didn't force him to.

He continued to stroke Barrett's cheek. He looked as gentle as ever, but there was barely any warmth in his eyes.

"Come on, let's practice, put away your fear."

"Take a deep breath."

He began to guide Barrett, helping him adjust his emotions.

But Barrett was injured and weak, unable to take a deep breath.

Mortimer's eyes grew colder, "Magnus, why are you so disobedient?"

"Did you forget what I said? No one likes disobedient children. Do you want to be a child that no one loves?"

Barrett's eyes turned red with anxiety.

He didn't want to be a child that no one loved.

He wanted to be a good child.

Barrett tried hard to follow Mortimer's instructions and take a deep breath.

But as soon as he exerted himself, he felt a pain in his chest and back.

Barrett's face turned pale with pain, and his body trembled even more.

But Mortimer just watched him, without any comfort or concern.

Suddenly, the door to the hospital room was pushed open with force.

Mortimer immediately found that it was Nora.

He looked surprised, "Nora? Why are you here so soon? Didn't you eat before coming?"

Barrett saw her come in and immediately looked at her with tearful eyes.

Nora, holding back her heartache, walked to the bedside, gently touched Barrett's forehead, and assured him softly, "Don't be afraid, it's okay."

Barrett was still very scared and felt wronged.

He didn't trust Nora.

Last time, it was Nora who handed him over to Mortimer, leaving him alone with Mortimer.

He was afraid that this time Nora would leave him alone with Mortimer again.

"Nora, why did you call me over so urgently? Did something happen to Magnus?" At this moment, Rhys walked into the hospital room, asking as he entered.

Seeing Mortimer, Rhys looked surprised, "Mortimer? Why are you here again? Didn't Isaac say yesterday that you weren't allowed to come? Aren't you afraid he'll hit you?"

Nora explained, "I called him here."

"Magnus was frightened. Check him to see if his injuries have been affected."

After giving instructions, she looked at Mortimer with cold, calm eyes, "Come with me."

With that, she walked out of the hospital room first.

Mortimer felt an unexpected flutter of nerves at Nora's demeanor.

Nora's attitude towards him had changed significantly, making him feel uneasy.

Mortimer pursed his lips and followed her silently.

Nora kept walking forward.

She didn't stop until they were out of the hospital courtyard.

Mortimer also stopped and asked gently, "Nora, what do you want to say to me?"

Nora turned around and slapped Mortimer hard across his face.

Mortimer's face turned to one side from the slap, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief.

After a few seconds of pause, Mortimer turned his face back, looking at Nora in astonishment, "Nora, why did you hit me? What did I do wrong?"

Nora shot back coldly, "Don't you know what you've done?"

Mortimer looked innocent, "I didn't do anything. I don't get why you're angry."

"Did you misunderstand something? Tell me, I can explain everything."

Suddenly thinking of something, he asked, "Are you blaming me for Magnus being frightened?"

"I didn't do anything. I didn't scare him on purpose. He was fine when I was in there."

Nora's face showed a hint of sarcasm.

He was trying to mislead her again, making her think that Magnus was frightened because he saw her.

If she didn't know the truth, she would have been deceived by him again.

Nora looked disappointed, her eyes growing colder, "Mortimer, I always considered you my best friend and trusted you unconditionally."

"But I never thought you were a wolf in sheep's clothing, skilled at deception!"

"You are actually darker, colder, and more ruthless than anyone!"

"I trusted you so much, entrusted the people I cared about most to you, but you played me for a fool and hurt them deeply!"

"Mortimer, you're so cruel. You even hurt a three-year-old child you watched grow up. You're terrifying!"

Mortimer's pupils contracted, feeling deeply shocked.

Why was Nora saying these things?

What did she know?

No, she couldn't possibly know.

Mortimer remained calm, asking in confusion, "I don't get what you're talking about. Who did I hurt? I didn't do anything."

"Did Isaac say something to you again?"

"Nora, you can't believe everything Isaac says."

"You've seen for yourself what Isaac has done. How can you still trust him?"

He thought that Nora had fallen for Isaac's lies, which was why she came to suspect him, and he remained calm.

Nora felt disappointed, "Until now, are you still trying to pin the blame on Isaac?"

She took out her phone and played a surveillance video.

The video showed the entire process after Mortimer entered Magnus's hospital room.

Before Mortimer went in, Magnus was very calm.

But as soon as he saw Mortimer, Magnus became extremely terrified and scared.

And the things Mortimer said to Magnus, any normal person could tell he was threatening Magnus!

Mortimer was shocked. He clenched his fists tightly, suddenly falling silent.

Nora actually had installed surveillance in the hospital room!

He had specifically checked the room for cameras before trying to persuade Barrett.

He didn't expect Nora to have installed hidden cameras!

Had she suspected him all along, deliberately installed hidden cameras, and then called him over to be alone with Barrett to catch him in the act?

Mortimer realized Nora had outsmarted him, and an uncomfortable feeling settled in.

Nora, who once trusted him unconditionally, had changed without him realizing it.

"Can you tell me why Magnus is so afraid of you?"

"Yesterday, you told me he was calm and happy when alone with you, and that he was only scared because he saw me."

"I thought it was my fault, that I hadn't protected him well, that he resented me, didn't trust me, saw me as a bad person, and was afraid of me, didn't want me near him!"

"I was careful not to get too close to him, afraid of scaring him."

"But later I found out, when Magnus saw me alone, he was fine. When he saw Isaac alone, he was also very normal, even happy."

"That's when I realized, the person Magnus is afraid of is not me, but you!"

Nora became more agitated as she spoke, her eyes bloodshot, anger burning in her eyes, questioning word by word, "Mortimer, tell me, what did you do to Magnus to make him so afraid of you?"
