Chapter 133 Suspicions Arise About Steve

Chapter 133 Suspicions Arise about Steve

At the Radcliffe family, Alaric rushed into the yard and found Mortimer playing chess with Elder.

"Mr. Radcliffe!" Mortimer placed his chess piece on the board, smiled at Elder, and said, "Grandpa, you lost."

"Lost again. It is no fun." Elder shook his head and scattered the chess pieces in frustration. "Forget it. I'm not playing anymore. I'm going to take a nap!"

Mortimer smiled. "Let me help you back to your room."

Elder accepted.

After Mortimer escorted Elder back to his room, he took Alaric to the study.

Once the door was closed, Alaric urgently said, "Mr. Radcliffe, I have made some progress in investigating Mrs. Foster's boyfriend."

Mortimer paused and asked, "What did you find?"

Alaric said, "I staked out Mrs. Foster's apartment last night. When I saw Mrs. Foster's boyfriend appear, I noted down the car he was driving and the license plate. After he left Mrs. Foster this morning, I was afraid of being discovered by him, so I didn't follow him. But I have someone check the surveillance footage along his route, investigating the whereabouts of that car. It reveals..."

Mortimer glanced at him indifferently. "Enough with the suspense."

Alaric rubbed his nose in chagrin. "Sorry, I'll tell you right away."

"I find that after he left the community, he drove the car to a secluded place and parked it. After waiting for about fifteen minutes, someone came and drove the car away. Guess who drove the car away?" Alaric added.

"Is it someone I know?" Mortimer asked.

"Yes, you know him!" Alaric nodded vigorously, visibly excited.

Mortimer said, "Come on. Say it."

Alaric said, "Wesley drove the car away!"

Mortimer paused, feeling surprised. "Are you sure you didn't make a mistake?"

Alaric earnestly said, "Absolutely sure! At first, I doubted if I had mistaken the person, so I reviewed that segment of surveillance footage repeatedly and even went to Porter Group to check Wesley's attire that day, which matched exactly with the surveillance footage!"

So, there couldn't be a mistake.

The person driving away from the car in the surveillance footage was undoubtedly Wesley.

Mortimer lowered his eyelids, a storm brewing in his eyes.

'Wesley is Isaac's right-hand man. How can he be involved with Nora's new boyfriend?'

A shocking speculation arose in Mortimer's mind.

"You can go down and continue investigating to see if you can find more useful clues," Mortimer ordered.

"Yes!" Alaric replied.

"Safety comes first. It's better to find nothing than to be discovered by him," Mortimer said.

"Alright, I'll be careful!" Alaric replied.

After Alaric left, Mortimer stood in front of the window, lost in thought for a long time.

Finally, he took out his phone and called Nora.

When the call was connected, he smiled and said, "Nora, it's me, Mortimer. You promise to take me out for a meal. After over a month, I haven't had that meal yet. Do you forget?"

Nora said, "No. It's just that so much has happened recently that I haven't had time to take you out. Now I have time. When will be you free I'll arrange it."

Mortimer said, "I'm off work today, not going to the office, so how about tonight?"

Nora said, "OK, I'll make a reservation and send you the address later."

Mortimer chuckled. "Great, bring your boyfriend along. Didn't you say he's the jealous type? Let him come to avoid misunderstanding our pure friendship. I'll also see if he's sincere towards you. If he truly cares for you and treats you well, I'll bless you both. We'll still be good friends in the future. I won't burden you too much."

Nora felt relieved when Mortimer brought up the matter.

"Alright, I'll ask him if he's free tonight," Nora replied.

After hanging up, Nora texted Steve: [Tonight, I'm taking my friend out for dinner. Do you have time to come and show some affection?]

Steve replied: [What time? I'll rearrange my work schedule.]

Nora: [Around seven o'clock.]

Steve: [OK, I'll come to pick you up at six-thirty.]

At six-thirty in the evening, when Steve arrived at Nora's house on time, Nora was already prepared.

She had put on light makeup and wore a pale yellow dress, looking elegant and youthful.

Steve walked up to Nora, took out a ring from his pocket, preparing to put it on the ring finger of her left hand.

"What are you doing?" Nora was startled and quickly pulled her hand back.

Steve said, "Don't you show affection? Put on this couple's ring, and tell him we're engaged to dispel his thoughts about you completely."

Nora thought Steve made sense.

She extended her hand, allowing Steve to put the ring on her finger.

Steve also wore a matching ring on his hand.

Nora looked at the ring, feeling a twinge in her heart.

Although she had been married to Isaac for three years, they didn't even have wedding rings.

No, they had them initially.

She designed the wedding rings, but when she handed the ring to Isaac, Isaac disdainfully threw it away.

At that moment, looking at her ring, she felt like it was a joke.

Disheartened, she also discarded her ring.

"What are you thinking?" Steve's voice interrupted Nora's thoughts.

Nora collected herself, forced a smile, and said, "Nothing. Let's go."

The two of them arrived at a high-end restaurant.

Mortimer had arrived early and was waiting for them in a private room.

Nora and Steve entered the room hand in hand.

Mortimer glanced at their intertwined hands, paused for two seconds, emotions flickering in his eyes, then stood up graciously with a smile. "Nora, is this your boyfriend?"

"Yes." Nora nodded lightly.

She turned to Steve. "Let me introduce you. This is my friend, Mortimer."

When she was about to introduce Steve to Mortimer, Steve took the initiative to extend his hand and said, "Mr. Radcliffe, I've heard a lot about you. I'm Steve."

Nora's lips twitched.

The name Steve chose could have been more creative.

"Steve, nice to meet you." Mortimer also reached out and shook his hand.

After the introductions, the three of them took their seats.

During the meal, Steve helped Nora with her food, even feeding her personally, showing a close and intimate demeanor.

Mortimer maintained a faint smile on his face throughout, seemingly indifferent.

He neither stared at Steve nor inquired about their relationship.

The meal proceeded without incident.

However, as they were preparing to leave the restaurant and passing through the lobby, they encountered a commotion.

A person causing a disturbance rushed towards them.

Steve immediately shielded Nora.

Mortimer helped subdue the troublemaker and took the knife from the person's hand.

During the struggle for the knife, Mortimer inadvertently scratched Steve's arm.

"I'm sorry. I didn't notice you there. Are you OK? Let me take you to the hospital," Mortimer apologized.

Steve said, "Don't bother. Nora will go with me."

With that, Steve took Nora's hand and left the restaurant.

Mortimer silently watched their retreating figures.

After they had gone far, he took out his phone and called Kalista. "In the next few days, find a chance to see if Isaac has a wound on his left upper arm, about six inches long."
