Chapter 486: Hold Isaac Responsible
After they returned home, Soren was teaching Magnus what he had learned in kindergarten in the living room.
Nora walked into the kitchen with Isaac to help him wash and cut vegetables.
Ever since hearing the good news Isaac brought back, Nora had been smiling constantly.
While washing the vegetables, she even hummed a happy tune.
Everyone was happy, except for Isaac, who was suffering immense torment inside but had to pretend to be happy, fearing they would notice something was wrong.
It wasn't until Nora and the kids had fallen asleep at night that he dared to drop his facade, revealing a look of pain and sorrow in his eyes.
He lay in bed, with his wife and children beside him, but he couldn't feel any joy.
He stayed awake all night until dawn.
In the morning, Nora saw his poor spirits and asked in confusion, "Why do you have such dark circles? You look so tired. Didn't you sleep well last night?"
Isaac nodded.
Nora frowned, "Why didn't you sleep well? Isn't Magnus's issue resolved?"
Although Magnus hadn't started treatment yet, since Rhys had said it could be cured, it meant there was no problem, just a matter of time.
Why couldn't Isaac sleep at home?
Isaac smiled, "I was too excited, couldn't sleep."
Nora chuckled, "Then stay home and get some rest. I'll take Soren to school today."
Isaac refused, "I'll take her to school, and then I’ll head to the office. I haven't been to there in a while because of Magnus's issue, and Grandpa has been helping out. He's getting older, and I don't want him wearing himself out; it's not good for his health."
Nora thought for a moment and nodded, "Okay, then find someone to drive. You didn't rest well last night, and driving while tired is dangerous."
Isaac nodded, "Okay, I'll call Wesley."
He prepared breakfast, and after the family finished eating, he took Soren out.
Downstairs, Wesley was already waiting at the community gate with the car.
Isaac got in the car with Soren, had Wesley drive to the kindergarten, handed Soren to her teacher, then got back in the car and had Wesley drive to the company.
Away from Nora and kids, Isaac's demeanor instantly became gloomy and oppressive.
He leaned back in his seat, staring blankly out the window at the passing scenery, his eyes dark and lifeless.
Wesley kept glancing at Isaac through the rearview mirror and couldn't help but cautiously ask, "Mr. Porter, you don't seem to be in a good mood. Is something wrong? Is there anything I can help with?"
He rarely saw Isaac like this, which made him a bit worried.
Isaac glanced at him coldly and said in a frosty tone, "Just drive and stop looking around."
Wesley shrank back, not daring to look around or ask any more questions.
If Isaac needed him to do something, he would speak up; there was no need for Wesley to offer.
But seeing Isaac like this, he couldn't help but worry.
At the company, Isaac sat in his office chair, unable to focus on any work, his mind filled with thoughts of Magnus.
How was he going to face Magnus's departure, and how was he going to tell Nora...
In the business world, he was decisive, but now he couldn't think of a way to solve the current problem.
By the time it was evening, he didn't dare go home to face Nora and Magnus.
He was afraid he might accidentally reveal something and ruin their good mood.
Even if Magnus's illness couldn't be cured, he wanted to make his last days as happy as possible.
Even if it meant deceiving Magnus, as long as it made him happy, Isaac was willing to be the bad guy.
Isaac thought for a moment and called Nora, making an excuse, "Honey, there's a lot of work at the company. I might be home late tonight. Have the nanny help with dinner, and don't wait for me."
Nora replied, "Okay, just make sure Wesley orders takeout for you. Don't overwork yourself. If you can't finish today, leave it for tomorrow."
Isaac chuckled, "Okay, thanks for caring, honey."
After hanging up, his smile faded, and he slumped back in his chair.
He forced himself to abandon those depressing thoughts and focus on work.
But he still couldn't concentrate.
Frustrated, Isaac slammed the documents on the desk.
He took out his phone and called Harold.
"What's up? Why aren't you home with your wife at this hour? Why are you calling me?" Harold's lazy voice came through the phone.
Isaac answered, "I'm in a bad mood. Come have a drink with me."
Harold laughed, "Aren't you and Nora back together? Why are you in a bad mood?"
Isaac impatiently said, "Stop asking so many questions."
Harold said, "You're asking me out and being so rude. Only a magnanimous guy like me would tolerate you. Anyone else wouldn't even bother with you."
"I'm at my bar. Just come over."
Isaac hung up and left the office.
He didn't let Wesley follow him and drove himself.
As he drove to the company gate, a figure suddenly appeared in front of the car, blocking his way.
Isaac wasn't driving fast, so he steadily braked and looked coldly at the person blocking his car.
When he saw who it was, he frowned, showing obvious impatience.
It was Amara.
As soon as he stopped the car, Amara ran to the window, looking at Isaac with excitement, "Isaac, I've been waiting at your company gate for days. I finally caught you today. I have something very important to tell you!"
Isaac impatiently said, "I have nothing to say to you. I've made it clear that my contract with the Hansen family is over. I won't marry into the Hansen family. Don't waste your time on me; it won't happen."
Amara bit her lip and said sadly, "But I'm pregnant with your baby. The baby is almost four months old. Don't you want to take responsibility?"
Isaac's eyes widened, and he looked at Amara sharply, "You say you're pregnant with my baby? I never touched you. How could you be pregnant with my baby?"
Amara was startled by his gaze and took a step back, trembling, "Don't you remember the Maritime Commerce Convention?"
"The woman on the cruise was you?" Isaac narrowed his eyes, exuding a dangerous aura.
After the incident, he hadn't seen the woman's face.
He didn't expect the woman to be Amara!
