Chapter 148 Isaac Meets His Daughter
"Magnus, don't talk to Nora like that," Mortimer said, gently patting Magnus's head, his warm voice carrying a hint of warning.
Magnus immediately felt even more aggrieved.
Clenching his small fists and with tears, he said, "She's going to abandon me. I don't want her to be my mommy!"
After shouting this, Magnus angrily stomped his little legs and ran outside.
"Magnus, come back! Don't run off!" Nora called out anxiously.
The two children had lived abroad since birth.
Since this was their first time back in the country, they were completely unfamiliar with the environment.
Magnus running off like this was very dangerous.
Moreover, such a small child running outside alone could easily attract the bad people.
"I'll go get him back," Mortimer said hurriedly, chasing after him.
Nora immediately let go of Soren and said urgently, "Soren, stay in the store and be good. I am going to bring Magnus back. Don't leave this door until I return, okay?"
"Okay, Mommy, go find brother quickly. Don't let the bad guys catch him!" Soren said obediently.
Nora immediately stood up and ran out.
With too many people outside, Magnus was so small that he disappeared into the crowd quickly.
When Nora ran out, she looked around but didn't see Magnus, only catching a glimpse of Mortimer running ahead.
She hurried over.
"Mortimer, have you found Magnus?" Nora asked anxiously.
Mortimer was also full of worry. "I don't see him. He's too short. With too many people around, I couldn't see where he ran."
Nora darkened her face with a wave of panic, thinking, 'What if Magnus gets lost or is taken by bad people?'
"Don't worry. I've already contacted subordinates. They'll be here soon to help us search. We'll find Magnus," Mortimer reassured her.
Nora could only continue searching.
Soon, Mortimer's subordinates arrived.
After showing them a photo of Magnus, they split up to search.
After nearly an hour, they found Magnus in a trash can less than 1600 feet from the art studio.
Nora felt both speechless and heartbroken.
She pulled Magnus out.
The words of reprimand stuck in her throat when she saw Magnus's tear-streaked face.
Nora sighed softly, hugging Magnus's small body tightly and soothing him, "Magnus, don't cry. I will never abandon you and Soren. You two are my life. You're more important to me than my own life. How could I ever abandon you?"
As she spoke, tears also streamed down Nora's face.
Magnus looked up, his tear-filled eyes gazing at Nora.
"Will you really never abandon me and Soren?" Magnus asked doubtfully.
Nora nodded seriously. "Of course. I swear, I will never abandon you."
Magnus asked, "Then why don't you video call us for fifty-two days? You don't even send us messages. We can't reach you on the phone either."
Nora felt a bit guilty. "I lost my old phone and got a new number, plus I am busy with work."
"Those are just excuses!" Magnus said angrily.
Nora said, "I'm sorry, it is my fault. Can you forgive me?"
Magnus said, "Promise you won't do it again, and I'll give you one more chance!"
Nora immediately nodded and promised, "Okay, I promise. I won't deliberately avoid contacting you again!"Not contacting due to death was intentional and didn't count as breaking the promise.
Magnus's expression finally improved a bit.
He lay in Nora's arms, silently feeling the warmth of Nora's embrace.
In the art studio, shortly after Nora and Mortimer went out to look for Magnus, Isaac arrived at the studio looking for Nora.
But he found no one inside when he entered the store.
"Nora?" Isaac thought Nora might be organizing things in a corner and called out louder.
But after waiting for a while, he still didn't hear a response.
Instead, he heard some faint noises coming from the back room.
Isaac walked over.
He saw a small girl, who looked about three years old and had two little pigtails, sitting at a table playing, her back facing him.
Even from behind, she exuded an adorable and innocent charm.
Isaac was slightly taken aback.
Why was there a child in Nora's store?
Years ago, since Nora had aborted his child, he developed a strong aversion to children.
Seeing a child would remind him of his lost child, making him angry and upset.
But looking at this little girl's back, he found himself uncontrollably drawn to her.
"Whose child are you? How do you get here?" Isaac stood behind Soren, looking down at her round little head, and asked in a deep voice.
Hearing the voice, Soren wiggled her little bottom and turned curiously to look at the person speaking.
When she saw Isaac, Soren was filled with surprise and confusion. She asked in a sweet and childish voice, "Magnus, how do you get so big? What do you eat behind my back?"
'Magnus? What is she talking about?' Isaac frowned as he thought, 'Could this little girl have some mental issues?'
Isaac carefully examined the little girl's face.
Unfortunately, her face was covered in paint, making it colorful and hard to see her features clearly, except for her big, clear, grape-like eyes.
Those eyes were so pure and bright, like a little elf's.
Isaac trembled his face slightly, feeling an inexplicable softness inside.
He furrowed in confusion.
He had always disliked children, so why was he having such a strange reaction to this little girl?
"Magnus, why aren't you talking? What do you eat to grow so big all of a sudden?" Seeing 'Magnus' not speaking, Soren anxiously stood up on the table, looking up at the face that was almost identical to Magnus' but in a larger version.
Isaac snapped out of it and said, "I'm not Magnus. Where are your parents?"
Isaac guessed that a customer must have brought this child.
But now, since neither Nora nor the customer was here, he didn't know where they had gone.
Soren said in her sweet and childish voice, "My daddy is dead, while Mommy went to find Magnus. Are you really not Magnus?"
"No," Isaac said with a chuckle. "At my age, I could be your dad. How could I be your brother, Magnus?"
Soren blinked her eyes and said cutely, "Then can you be my daddy?"
Isaac twitched his mouth, "No."
Soren's little face fell, feeling unhappy. "Why not? You just said you could be my daddy!"
Isaac explained, "I mean that I'm old enough to be your dad."
Little Soren nodded innocently. "Yes, since you said you're old enough to be my dad, why won't you agree?"
Isaac fell silent.
This child's intelligence seemed a bit off, probably inherited from her deceased father's poor genes.
Poor genes led to an early death.
