Chapter 551 It's Too Late
Isaac pressed his lips tightly, not knowing how to respond.
If he answered yes, Nora would know the truth that Magnus was beyond saving.
If he answered no, he still couldn't save Magnus. When the time came, Magnus would still die, and Nora would still find out the truth.
At this point, he couldn't hide it any longer.
During Isaac's silence, the light in Nora's eyes dimmed bit by bit.
Isaac's lack of immediate denial was already an answer.
If it wasn't true, he would have denied it outright.
Only when it was the truth, and he didn't want her to know but hadn't thought of a way to lie, would he hesitate and not answer immediately.
Nora closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to suppress her emotions that were about to lose control.
"When did you find out that Magnus and Soren are your children?"
Isaac would only want to use the umbilical cord blood of his and Amara's child to treat Magnus if he knew Magnus and Soren were his children, which was why Amara could threaten him.
Isaac said in a low voice, "I found out when the children were kidnapped."
Nora asked, "Since you knew so early, why didn't you tell me?"
Isaac gave a bitter smile, "When the children were kidnapped, you were always worried about them, and I was worried too. I thought I would tell you after we found them."
"But when the children were found, they were seriously injured, so I continued to pretend not to know, planning to acknowledge our relationship once the child recovered. But then things kept happening."
"At that time, if I wanted to do that, I was afraid you would distance yourself from me even more."
Nora couldn't refute for a moment.
The children were kidnapped while in Isaac's care. If he had told the truth then, she would only have been angrier and kept the children away from him.
Nora asked in a trembling voice, "Without the umbilical cord blood of a blood relative, is Magnus really beyond saving?"
Isaac's voice choked, "Yes, Rhys said the umbilical cord blood is the only and last chance. Without compatible umbilical cord blood, he can't save Magnus."
Tears instantly rolled down Nora's cheeks. She gripped the steering wheel tightly, her whole body trembling.
She asked desperately, "Can't we get pregnant and have another child?"
Isaac's voice was bitter, "It's too late. If it were possible, I wouldn't have valued the child in Amara's womb so much."
"When Magnus was first diagnosed, Rhys said we could only delay for six months at most. Getting pregnant again wouldn't be in time, and now it's even more impossible."
Nora was completely desperate. She finally couldn't control herself and broke down crying.
Isaac placed his hand on the back of her right hand. Seeing that she didn't push him away, he slowly tightened his grip and choked out, "I'm sorry, I didn't protect the children."
Nora leaned on the steering wheel, crying uncontrollably.
Magnus was sick, not injured. This wasn't a matter of protection.
She knew that Magnus's illness had nothing to do with Isaac.
Isaac had already tried his best for Magnus's illness.
For Magnus's only chance of survival, he was willing to be threatened by Amara and hated by her and the two children.
Amara was right; she had cut off Magnus's only chance of survival.
"It's my fault. I kicked Amara, causing her to miscarry. It's all my fault. I harmed Magnus."
"I had Mortimer help me kidnap Daxton, which led to Amara being mistakenly kidnapped and injured, causing her to miscarry."
"It's my fault. Everything is my fault."
"I can't save Magnus and even caused him to lose his chance of survival. I deserve to die."
Nora broke down crying.
She grabbed her phone and started hitting her leg with it.
Isaac quickly took the phone from her hand and held her tightly, restraining her hands to prevent her from hurting herself, but he didn't try to comfort her, letting her vent her emotions.
Nora tried to push him away but couldn't. She leaned on his chest, crying loudly.
Tears welled up in Isaac's eyes, and his heart ached so much he could hardly breathe.
It took a long time for Nora to stop crying.
She pushed Isaac away and leaned against the chair, staring blankly at the view of the river.
Neither of them spoke.
The air in the car was filled with sadness.
After a long time, Nora started the car and drove to The Porter Manor.
Isaac asked in confusion, "Why are we going to The Porter Manor? Aren't we going home to be with the children?"
Nora's voice was hoarse, "Before I came to find you, I took Magnus and Soren to The Porter Manor."
Isaac didn't say anything more.
The two remained silent all the way.
When they returned to The Porter Manor, Magnus and Soren were sitting in the living room with anxious expressions.
Seeing her return, they immediately jumped off the sofa and ran towards her.
"Ms. Foster, why did you take so long to come back? I missed you so much." Soren hugged her leg, his little voice full of grievance.
Nora rubbed her head and said softly, "You don't need to call me Ms. Foster anymore. Call me Mommy. We don't need to hide our relationship anymore."
Soren immediately called out happily, "Mommy!"
Nora smiled lightly, "Good girl."
She turned her gaze to Magnus, who was quietly hugging her other leg, and her heart couldn't help but ache.
She tried to control her expression and also rubbed his head.
Edmund's hearty laughter came from the living room, "Haha, Nora, you finally stopped hiding and let me know that Magnus and Soren are your and Isaac's children?"
Nora looked surprised, "Grandpa, you knew too? When did you find out?"
Edmund said, "From the first time I saw them, I knew. Magnus's big eyes are exactly like Isaac's when he was a child. I recognized them immediately."
Nora touched her head awkwardly.
She thought she had hidden it well, even making Magnus and Soren wear masks and not letting them call her Mommy in front of others, but it turned out everything had been seen through long ago.
Nora said, "The situation was special at the time. I hope you don't blame me, Grandpa."
Edmund laughed, "You helped me raise two great-grandchildren. I'm grateful, how could I blame you?"
"Now that everything is out in the open, I can openly see Magnus and Soren in the future, haha!"
"By the way, let's pick a good day to announce Magnus and Soren's identities and let them recognize their ancestors!"
Nora said, "No rush, let's wait a bit."
Edmund didn't insist and said everything would be according to Nora's wishes.
Nora took the two children upstairs to wash up and go to bed.
As soon as the children fell asleep, her phone rang.
She glanced at it; it was Mortimer calling.
Nora's eyes darkened.
She gently got out of bed and went to the bathroom to answer the call.
Mortimer's voice came through the phone, "Nora, didn't you take Magnus and Soren home? I've been waiting downstairs at your place for hours and haven't seen any lights on. Where did you go?"
