Chapter 329 Isaac Is Angry
Soren looked sadly at Isaac's back.
Then she turned to Nora. "Mommy, what's wrong with Daddy? He looks unhappy."
Nora said, "Maybe it's something at the company. He's worried about work. He'll be fine in a couple of days once things are sorted out."
Soren nodded, half understanding. "Then Mommy have to help him, okay? Don't let him handle it alone. Otherwise he'll get tired too!"
Nora nodded perfunctorily.
After breakfast, she decided to take Soren along to see Mortimer.
The kids were raised by him after all, and they had a deep bond.
She couldn't let her personal grudges prevent them from seeing each other.
In fact, her time with the kids didn't compare to Mortimer's.
The kids clung to her, so she had to stay and play with them and Mortimer.
Magnus returned to his old self, obedient and calm, as if the emotional outbursts had never happened.
Seeing Magnus's change, Nora felt less resistant to letting Mortimer interact with them.
In the evening, Magnus didn't want to go back, holding onto Nora's sleeve and pitifully saying, "Mommy, can we have dinner at uncle Mortimer's house before we go back? I haven't had dinner with him in a long time"
Soren chimed in, "Stay!"
Mortimer smiled and said, "Since they want to stay, why don't you stay and have dinner with them before going back? It's not quite often for them to stay, don't make them sad."
Nora could only stay with them.
At 7 PM, Isaac came home from work.
He hesitated for a moment but decided to cook dinner himself. He had been cold to Nora last night, and he wanted to ease the tension between them.
Nora had made it clear that she didn't want to be involved with Mortimer anymore and was only interacting with him for the sake of the children. After all, she couldn't ignore her children's needs.
Isaac realized he had been too narrow-minded.
He then made a few dishes that Nora liked, as well as some that the kids enjoyed.
By the time the meal was ready, it was almost 8 PM.
But Nora and the kids hadn't come back yet.
He then called Nora.
It took a long time for the call to be answered.
But the person who answered was Mortimer.
"Isaac? Nora can't come to the phone right now. Is there something you need? You can tell me, and I'll pass it on."
Isaac's face darkened quickly, and he asked coldly, "Is she still with you?"
Mortimer chuckled, "Yes, we haven't had a family gathering in a long time. They're staying here for dinner tonight. I'll send them back to you later..."
Isaac hung up abruptly and kicked the table in anger.
The table collapsed, and the food spilled all over the floor.
The butler and maids rushed into the dining room upon hearing the noise.
Seeing Isaac's furious expression, they were too scared to speak or approach him.
Isaac stormed out of the house.
After a long time, then everyone came back to their senses, sitll looking terrified.
Even though Isaac had left, his presence lingered, and they still felt an invisible pressure.
"What's wrong with Mr. Porter? Why is he so angry?"
"He was fine when he came back. Why does he suddenly look like he wants to kill someone?"
"Mr. Porter spent almost an hour making this meal, and now it's all wasted."
"Could it be related to Mrs. Porter? Mr. Porter usually loses his temper over things related to Mrs. Porter."
"That can't be. They have been getting along well recently. It's impossible that he get so angry because of her."
The maids whispered among themselves.
The butler sternly scolded, "Do you all go crazy? How dare you gossip about Mr. Porter?"
The maids quickly shut their mouths and shrank back in fear.
"Sorry, we know we were wrong."
"We won't do it again. Please don't tell Mr. Porter."
The butler said, "Got it, just clean up the dining room and get back to work. Less talking, more working!"
When Nora returned to the villa with the kids, it was almost 10 PM.
She quickly sent the children to take a bath and then put them to bed.
When she went back to her room, she found that Isaac wasn't there. And she checked the study, but he wasn't there either.
Then she went downstairs and asked the butler, "Hasn't Isaac come back tonight?"
The butler said, "Mr. Porter came back around 7 PM, but he left again around 8 PM and hasn't returned since."
"Okay." Nora nodded and went back upstairs. She thought Isaac might have gone to meet some business associates or friends.
"Mrs. Porter," the butler hesitated before saying, "Mr. Porter made a big dinner tonight, all your favorite dishes, but for some reason, he kicked the table over just a few minutes after the food was served and then left."
Nora's heart skipped a beat.
Isaac had cooked dinner for them tonight?
Why didn't he call her, instead of destroying the dinner?
Then she remembered that Magnus had insisted on staying at Mortimer's for dinner.
Even if Isaac had called her, she might not have been able to come back.
She then returned to her room, feeling troubled.
She took out her phone and called Isaac.
But no one answered.
She tried calling three or four more times, but still no one answered. So she had to give up.
After taking a bath, she tried calling Isaac a few more times but failed it.
She felt restless and she wanted to wait for him to come home before going to sleep.
But perhaps because she hadn't slept well these days and had spent the whole day with the kids, she was exhausted and quickly fell asleep.
She didn't know how long she had been asleep when she suddenly felt a tightness in her throat, a suffocating feeling overwhelming her. And her consciousness was forced to wake up bit by bit.
As she became more aware, she felt a heavy weight on her body, as if a huge stone was pressing down on her.
Her neck was being strangled, and she couldn't breathe. But she could still smell a strong scent of alcohol.
