Chapter 564 I Really Wish He Could Be a Little More Selfish
Three days later, Nora and Isaac attended Mortimer's funeral together.
Throughout the entire funeral, Nora remained calm, though she couldn't help but feel a bit dazed inside.
The day after the funeral, Rhys came to visit them.
With a serious expression, Rhys said, "I've asked around about the poison in Isaac, but I couldn't find anyone who can cure it. However, someone provided a clue, saying that there's an evil person in an ancient village in Everglade City who is skilled in the art of poisoning. If you go there in person, you might find someone who understands this poison and can cure you."
"But that person also said that the villagers there rarely interact with outsiders and are quite xenophobic. Even if you go, you might not be able to persuade them to help you, and you might even encounter danger."
"Moreover, the place is remote and underdeveloped, with unpaved roads. It's quite difficult to get there."
"Whether to go or not, you decide for yourselves."
Rhys sighed and turned to leave.
Nora and Isaac fell into silence.
After a while, Isaac broke the silence first, smiling, "What Rhys said is unreliable. Don't pay attention to him. Let's pack our things and prepare to take the three kids on a trip."
Nora said, "Although Rhys didn't give a definite answer, this is the only chance to save your life. If we don't go, you only have three months to live!"
Isaac said nonchalantly, "The poison might not be real. What if Daxton said it just to scare us?"
Nora replied, "No, the poison is real. I saw with my own eyes how he triggered the poison from a distance, making you suddenly critically ill. If you don't cure the poison, you will definitely die!"
Isaac said, "Okay, don't worry. How about this, let's take Barrett to play for three months, and after three months, we'll go to Everglade City to find a cure. How about that?"
Nora said angrily, "Do you think I'm stupid? You only have three months left. After three months, you'll be dead. What's the point of finding a cure then?"
Isaac said, "But Barrett also only has three months left. Don't you want to let him experience the world well? Don't you want his last moments to be happy?"
Nora bit her lip and said, "How about you take Rhys with you to Everglade City, and I'll take the kids on a trip?"
Isaac shook his head, saying, "No, Barrett longs for family. He would want both parents by his side. If only you accompany him, he will have regrets."
"And I will also have regrets. I will never forgive myself."
Nora looked conflicted, "But..."
Isaac interrupted her, "No buts. Going to Everglade City might not even find a cure. Instead of wasting time on something uncertain, it's better to spend it with Barrett."
"And as I said, even if I really die in three months, I can accompany Barrett in heaven. Neither of us will be lonely, and I can take care of him. It's not a bad thing."
Nora couldn't be happy.
To her, it wasn't a good thing.
But no matter what she said, she couldn't persuade Isaac.
After resting at home for a few days, the children's mood had improved, and the events of that day hadn't left them with any psychological shadows.
Nora and Isaac repacked their luggage and prepared to set off on a trip with the three kids.
As they were leaving, Barrett looked up and curiously asked, "Mommy and Daddy, where are we going on vacation?"
Nora patted Barrett's head and gently said, "We're going to Serenitia first. It has beautiful beaches and a spring-like climate all year round. We can collect shells on the beach, build sandcastles, and do lots of fun things."
Barrett pouted, "I don't want to see the sea."
Nora was stunned and quickly asked, "Then where does Barrett want to go? We haven't boarded the plane yet, so we can change our plans. Wherever you want to go, we'll take you there."
Barrett blinked his big eyes and said in a sweet childlike voice, "I want to go to Everglade City."
Nora and Isaac both froze.
Nora asked, "Barrett, why do you want to go to Everglade City?"
Barrett looked up at Isaac and seriously said, "I want Daddy to live well and stay with Mommy and my siblings. I don't want Daddy to accompany me."
Nora's heart skipped a beat, and a trace of panic flashed in her eyes.
"Barrett, what are you talking about? Don't overthink."
Barrett said, "Mommy, I heard everything. You can't fool me."
Nora closed her mouth.
Barrett continued, "I want Daddy to get better. I don't want Daddy to give up on treating himself just to accompany me."
Isaac's heart trembled, feeling so moved that he almost wanted to cry.He hadn't fulfilled much of his fatherly duties, yet Barrett cared so much about him.
He squatted down, patted Barrett's head, and seriously said, "Barrett, I understand your feelings, but going to Everglade City might not find a cure for my condition. There's no need to waste time going there."
"And I might not get sick either. Don't think too much. Just focus on having fun."
Barrett immediately shook off his hand, turned around, and walked back, firmly saying, "If Mommy and Daddy don't go to Everglade City, then I won't go on a trip. I'll stay at home forever and never be happy!"
Nora and Isaac hurried to coax him.
But no matter how they coaxed, Barrett pouted stubbornly.
Nora looked at Isaac and persuaded him, "Let's go to Everglade City. We'll take the kids with us, and it can be considered a trip."
Isaac frowned.
Nora said, "You know how stubborn Barrett is. If you don't agree, he really will stay at home every day and not go anywhere. Do you want that?"
Isaac sighed, helplessly and lovingly hugged Barrett and kissed him.
"Barrett, you don't have to be so sensible. You should be a little selfish and think more about yourself."
Barrett blinked his big eyes and seriously said, "I am selfish. I'm asking Daddy to stay alive to take care of Mommy and my siblings. Soren is clumsy, and Daddy will have a harder time taking care of her than me."
At that moment, Soren happened to run in, happily asking, "Daddy, Barrett, are you talking about how pretty I am behind my back?"
Isaac couldn't help but laugh. Soren was so silly.
Barrett said, "Yes, Soren is the prettiest, except for Mommy."
Soren giggled, "I think so too."
She ran to Barrett, holding his little hand, "Barrett, why are you walking back? Aren't we going to catch a plane?"
"Daddy, Mommy, aren't we going on a trip?"
Nora and Isaac both looked at Barrett.
Barrett stubbornly said, "To Everglade City!"
Soren blinked her big eyes and happily jumped up, "Okay, the place Barrett wants to go must be fun. Let's go to Everglade City, to Everglade City!"
Isaac sighed lightly, "Alright, we'll do as you say. We'll change our plans and go to Everglade City."
Barrett finally smiled happily.
If it meant his daddy could live, he felt he had made some amends for his mistakes and wouldn't feel so guilty.
