Chapter 306 Suspecting He Was Switched
Nora looked up and met Isaac's eyes, which was firm, not like he was lying.
But she still couldn't give him a definite answer. Just because she doubted Magnus didn't mean she completely trusted Isaac.
People's hearts are hard to fathom. She didn't know what he was thinking, let alone what he had done.
After a few seconds of silence, she said, "I don't know who to believe right now. Let's wait until the check is over."
Isaac was a bit disappointed. But he could understand Nora.
After all, Magnus, who was lying inside, was her biological son.
Isaac was silent for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Don't you think Magnus has changed a lot recently?"
Nora looked up and met his gaze.
Isaac said, "Ever since I was discharged from the hospital after my car accident, he's been like a different person. Magnus used to love having me play with him. Although he didn't talk much in front of me, I could feel that he was happy when he was around me. But ever since I came back from the hospital, whenever I got close to him, he would run away, not wanting to be with me. When I played games with him, he ignored me even more."
Nora paused, though she hadn't noticed that much, she only felt that Magnus had become much colder.
Isaac squinted his eyes, carefully recalling Magnus's changes over this period. He then found out that Magnus had become particularly inseparable from Mortimer.
However, after thinking for a moment, he didn't mention this. Because it was normal for Magnus to cling to his biological father.
Suddenly, Isaac thought of a possibility. He looked at Nora with a complex expression.
Nora was puzzled by his gaze and frowned. "If you have something to say, just say it. Why are you looking at me like that?"
Isaac said, "Does Magnus want you to be with Mortimer, so he's trying to drive me away?"
Nora looked at him in shock. "How could you think that?"
Isaac said, "Haven't you noticed? Magnus has been close to Mortimer and distant from me recently. Although Mortimer is his father, and it's normal for him to be close to Mortimer, he wasn't so blatant before."
When mentioning Mortimer and Magnus's relationship, his tone was heavy.
Nora's expression changed for Mortimer wasn't Magnus's father but Isaac was. But she couldn't say that and could only look at Isaac's frustrated expression.
Nora began to think, 'Isaac seemed to have a point that Magnus had indeed become very attached to Mortimer. When did it start? It seemed to have started after Isaac's car accident. She spent a night with Isaac at the hospital, and the next day when she returned home, she noticed something was off with Magnus that he started clamoring to see Mortimer. The once considerate and understanding child was now constantly demanding to live with him. When she didn't agree with that, he would cry and throw tantrums, which had never happened before.'
Nora murmured, "Could it be because the night you had the car accident, I stayed with you at the hospital, and when he woke up and found I wasn't home, he thought I was going to abandon them for you, so he resented you and thought Mortimer was better?" Plus, Magnus had always been with Mortimer when he was little, so it was understandable that he relied on Mortimer.
Isaac said, "Your guess makes some sense, but Magnus's personality change is too drastic. I still feel it's not that simple."
Nora looked at him.
Isaac said, "Although people can change drastically due to trauma, the trauma he experienced doesn't seem enough to cause such a change. It's like he's a different person. I even suspect that he really has been replaced by someone else."
Nora said, "To be honest, I've suspected that too. I even tested to see if, like you once deceived me with a mask, someone had made a fake face to impersonate Magnus. But I tested it, and his face is real, not someone else's disguise."
Isaac fell silent.
At this moment, the doctor finished treating Magnus's wounds and then walked out of the ward.
Nora inquired about the situation.
The doctor briefly explained a few things, told them not to agitate the patient, and then left.
Nora sighed silently and sat down on a chair at the door.
The current Magnus left her unsure of how to face him. In fact, she really wanted to tell Magnus that there are consequences for doing wrong.
She thought, 'Even if Isaac had really retaliated against Magnus. He deserved it. Who told him to push Edmund for no reason? He was young and had a strong recovery ability. As long as Rhys performed surgery on him, his chances of recovery were high. But Edmund was older. Even if his injuries healed, the damage to his body couldn't be fully recovered. Both were crucially important to her, and her heart couldn't lean towards either side.'
Nora turned to Isaac and said, "Go take care of your business. I want to be alone for a while. Don't worry, even if it turns out you did it on purpose, I won't do anything to you. After all, Magnus was in the wrong first. No matter how old you are, you have to take responsibility for your mistakes."
Isaac lowered his eyes. In the end, Nora still doubted him. He didn't say much more and then turned to leave. At the hospital entrance, he called Wesley to ask about the progress of the check.
Wesley said, "The surveillance in the neighborhood and along the road where the accident happened has been deleted. We can only check the dashcam footage from the car I was driving, but the dashcam was damaged. I'm trying to get it repaired, but I don't know if it can be fixed yet."
Isaac's eyes darkened. He thought it didn't seem like an accident or coincidence, but was as if someone was deliberately setting a trap to frame him. And the only person he could think of who would want him and Nora to never see each other again was Mortimer!
Isaac took a deep breath, suppressing the frustration in his heart. "Keep checking. No matter what, find out the truth."
After hanging up, he called Rhys, "When are you coming back?"
Rhys laughed. "You have great timing. I just arrived in Aridonia. I just got off the plane, and you called. I'll be at the hospital in about an hour!"
Isaac squinted his eyes and lowered his voice. "When you get to the hospital, go to VIP Room 9 first and get Magnus's hair to do a DNA comparison with Nora."
Rhys was stunned. "What are you trying to do?"
Isaac said, "Magnus has changed too much recently. I suspect he might have been swapped."
