Chapter 285 Magnus and Soren Were Taken Away
"You misunderstood, Isaac and I are not what you think," Nora explained awkwardly.
Rhys nodded vigorously. "I get it, you don't need to explain." He said he understood, but his eyes clearly showed disbelief.
Nora knew that after what happened with Isaac, no one would believe there wasn't some romantic tension.
She bit her lip and awkwardly changed the subject. "Didn't you leave? Why are you back?"
Rhys raised an eyebrow, his eyes gleaming with mischief, and handed Nora a bottle of medicine.
"What is this?" Nora asked.
Rhys said, "Didn't you want to make him mute? This medicine will help you achieve that."
Nora's mouth twitched. She was just joking.
Did Rhys actually take it seriously?
Rhys continued, "There are three pills in here. One pill will make him unable to speak for twenty-four hours. If you give him one pill a day, he won't be able to make a sound until he's discharged."
Nora's mouth twitched again, showing a helpless expression.
"Rhys, are you looking for trouble?" Isaac, lying on the bed, was already livid.
If looks could kill, Rhys would have died a dozen times by now.
Rhys laughed heartily. "Didn't you say to treat Nora the same way I treat you? I've always followed your orders. Whatever you ask me to do, I do. So, naturally, I should treat Nora the same way. Nora wants to make you mute, so I brought her the medicine. What's wrong with that?"
He then smiled at Nora. "Nora, I'm leaving now. Next time, if you want him to go blind or crippled, just let me know. I'll bring the medicine right away!"
Nora forced a stiff smile. She really had to thank him.
"Get out!" Isaac roared in anger.
Rhys left the room with a big smile on his face.
Wesley, with a stiff expression, placed the food box on the bedside table and said to Nora, "Mrs. Porter, please feed Mr. Porter. I have to go now."
Nora nodded.
After everyone left, Isaac's face still looked bad.
Although Nora couldn't see his face, she could tell he wasn't in a good mood.
"Come on, don't be mad. Let me feed you." Nora raised his bed and started feeding him spoon by spoon.
Isaac's face still looked bad, but he cooperated. As the feeding continued, his expression gradually improved.
After feeding him, Nora stayed in the room with him and didn't leave. At noon, she helped him apply medicine.
She carefully unwrapped the bandages, revealing his wounds.
Most of the wounds were on the front and left side of his body. And it was shocking.
Seeing these wounds, Nora's heart tightened. She carefully applied the medicine to Isaac. "Does it hurt?"
"No," Isaac replied.
Nora didn't say anything else and continued applying the medicine.
After finishing, she rewrapped the bandages.
In the evening, she applied the medicine again before preparing to leave to pick up the kids.
"Will you come back tonight?" Isaac grabbed Nora's hand, looking at her with deep eyes.
Nora shook her head. "No, Magnus and Soren sometimes wake up in the middle of the night. If they wake up and don't see me, they'll be scared. The night you had the accident, I didn't go back, and they were really frightened."
Isaac's eyes showed a hint of disappointment, but he let go of Nora's hand. He knew that in Nora's heart, he could never compare to the kids.
Before leaving, Nora instructed, "Get some rest and don't move around. I'll come see you tomorrow."
Isaac nodded. He watched Nora's back until the door closed, and only then did he look away, his eyes dim and lifeless.
When Nora arrived at the kindergarten, the teacher told her that the kids had already been picked up.
Nora's heart tightened with a surge of panic, and she asked emotionally, "Who picked them up? How could you let a stranger take my children?"
Isaac was still in the hospital, so he couldn't have picked up Magnus and Soren.
Besides her and Isaac, no one knew that the kids were attending this school, so it couldn't have been anyone else.
The only possibility was that the kids had been taken by someone with ill intentions!
Thinking about the time they were sold to a remote village, she felt tears welling up in her eyes and immediately called the police.
At that moment, the teacher said, "The kids called the person Mortimer. They seemed very close to him, and he provided identification and proof of knowing them, so I let him take them. Mortimer said he took them to a nearby fried chicken restaurant. If you come looking for them, you can find them there."
Nora paused.
Right, how could she forget about Mortimer?
In the morning, Mortimer had come with her to drop off the kids at school. He knew they were attending this school.
She just didn't expect Mortimer to pick them up without informing her first, which is why she didn't think of him.
She then said goodbye to the teacher and immediately ran out of the school to find the restaurant.
Mortimer and the kids were sitting in a very noticeable spot.
As soon as Nora walked into the restaurant, she saw them.
"Mommy, we're here!" Soren spotted her first and waved happily, calling out sweetly.
Nora smiled and quickly walked over, patting Magnus and Soren on their heads.
Then she looked at Mortimer, somewhat displeased, and said, "Why didn't you contact me before picking up the kids? I thought they were taken by bad people. You scared me to death."
Mortimer said, "I called you before picking them up, but your line was busy. So, I registered with the teacher and took them."
Nora's face still didn't look good.
Soren tugged at her clothes and said, "Mommy, don't blame uncle Mortimer. We waited for you for a long time. All the other kids were picked up, and you still hadn't come. If uncle Mortimer hadn't come, we would have had to wait even longer."
Hearing Soren's words, Nora felt a pang of guilt. She had indeed been delayed tonight because she was helping Isaac with his medicine.
Making two three-year-old kids wait for an hour wasn't good for them.
Nora said to Mortimer, "Thank you. I was late because I had something to do tonight. You don't need to trouble yourself in the future."
