Chapter 235 Nora Regains Her Memory
Harold was quiet for a few seconds before he finally spoke up, "Why do you need Mortimer's number? Can't you just get along with Isaac?"
Nora shot back, "I need to ask him something important."
Harold, clearly annoyed, said, "I don't have his number. Go ask Isaac!"
"Fine." Nora hung up without a second thought. She was after the number, and since Harold couldn't help, there was no point in dragging it out.
Just as she ended the call, her phone rang again. This time, the caller ID was Sophia.
Nora answered.
"Nora, finally! Where have you been? I texted you, no reply. I even asked Isaac, and someone said you were dead!" Sophia's voice was shaky, almost crying. "I never believed it. Now I know I was right. You're alive! What happened? Why did they say you were dead? Were you hurt? I'll get revenge for you if anyone hurt you!"
Nora felt a strange warmth hearing Sophia's concern, even though she didn't remember her. "Calm down, don't get so worked up."
Sophia burst into tears. "How can I calm down? Do you know how worried I was? I even thought if I couldn't find you, I'd join you in death."
Nora felt a pang of guilt. They must've been close. "I'm sorry you're so upset, but I have to tell you something. I've lost my memory."
Sophia went silent.
After a long pause, she asked, "You lost your memory? You don't remember me? How? Where are you now? If you lost your memory, how did you think to contact me?"
Nora explained, "I don't know how. I'm at Isaac's place. I didn't contact you specifically; I reached out to everyone in my phone. I need Mortimer's number urgently."
Sophia was quiet again.
Nora could almost feel the hurt in that silence. She felt even more guilty. "Do you know Mortimer's number?" she asked.
Sophia said, "No, I'm not close to him."
Nora sighed, disappointed.
Sophia added, "If you really need Mortimer's contact info, ask Isaac."
Nora said, "I did, he wouldn't give it to me."
Sophia continued, "That's normal. Isaac sees Mortimer as a rival. But you can ask someone else. He definitely has Mortimer's contact info, and if you ask, he'll give it to you. He spoils you the most."
Nora asked urgently, "Who?"
Sophia replied, "Isaac's grandfather."
Nora was skeptical. "Are you sure? You said Isaac sees Mortimer as a rival. Would his grandfather give me Mortimer's number?"
Sophia laughed. "Yes, as long as you ask, Edmund will agree. He adores you."
Nora hung up.
After that, Sophia sent several long texts, recounting Nora's past, her love for Isaac, and their business venture... but nothing about the kids.
Nora guessed her kids might've been kept a secret from everyone, except Mortimer.
She went to find Isaac again.
Isaac's face was sour. When he saw Nora walk into the study, he looked at her coldly.
Nora felt a chill run down her spine under his gaze.
Isaac gritted his teeth and snapped, "Nora, do you really want Mortimer to come save you that badly? You've been asking everyone for his number. Are you trying to tell the world you've been loving him?"
Nora stayed quiet. She hadn't expected people to run to Isaac so quickly, but she wasn't scared.
Ignoring his questions, she said, "I want to see your grandpa. Is that okay?"
Isaac's eyes darkened as he stared at her, like he was trying to read her soul.
Nora felt a chill run down her spine.
After a long pause, Isaac said in a deep voice, "Fine, I'll go with you."
Since Nora's "death," Edmund's health had taken a nosedive. His hair, which had turned half-white because of Kalista, was now completely white.
Letting him know Nora was still alive might actually help him.
Isaac had a car ready, and they headed to the old house together.
But halfway there, several SUVs suddenly surrounded their car.
A group of masked people jumped out, armed with iron rods, and started smashing the windows and doors.
Isaac's face changed, and he told Wesley, "When we get out, I'll cover you. Take Nora and go!"
Wesley protested, "There are too many of them. You can't handle them alone. And they're definitely after you. Leaving you alone is even more dangerous!"
Isaac said firmly, "Exactly because they're after me, I want you to get Nora out of here. Never let anything happen to her!"
Wesley was almost in tears. "Mr. Porter!"
Isaac cut him off, "Stop talking. Even if you stay, you can't handle them!"
Wesley was left speechless.
Isaac let go of Nora's hand, kicked open the car door, and was the first to rush out, kicking away the men in black surrounding the door and dodging an iron rod swung at him.
Meanwhile, Wesley took the chance to get out, grabbing Nora's wrist. "Mrs. Porter, come with me. Don't waste Mr. Porter's effort!"
Nora was pulled along by Wesley, but her eyes stayed on Isaac. His words echoed in her ears.
Isaac could've had Wesley cover him and escaped himself. But he gave the chance to her.
Nora felt a pang of bitterness in her heart.
But before she could feel moved, the attackers suddenly rushed towards her. Her eyes widened in terror.
They were after her?
There were too many of them. She and Wesley couldn't fend them off. Wesley quickly fell, and the iron rods kept hitting her hard, each blow bringing excruciating pain.
Nora's head was struck. Intense pain overwhelmed her, and she collapsed to the ground. Blood flowed from her head, blurring her vision.
"Nora!" Isaac ran towards her, panic written all over his face.
In a daze, blurry images flashed through Nora's mind.
'Are you moved?'
Who?
'Did you like hearing those words?'
Who was speaking?
'Nora, how could you be so clueless? Did you really think I'd forgive you after you cheated on me? Did you think we could start over? Why? Of course, to mock you, to see you fall from grace! Nora, you owe me. You'll never repay it, even if we divorce. You'll always be mine to toy with!'
Nora realized she was hallucinating. Voices kept echoing in her mind. And that voice was eerily similar to Isaac's!
Her head hurt so much. She lay on the ground, watching Isaac run towards her in a panic.
But in her ears, Isaac's cruel words echoed like a curse.
