Chapter 242 Can I Still Trust You?

Isaac tried to hide his exhaustion with a faint smile. "Hungry? I brought you breakfast, all your favorites. Dig in." He adjusted the hospital bed and sat down, ready to feed Nora himself.

Nora had one injured hand and a fractured rib, making it tough for her to move. But she wasn't having any of Isaac's help. When he brought the porridge to her mouth, she turned away.

Isaac gently coaxed, "You're weak and hurt. You need to eat to get your strength back. Even if you're not hungry, try to eat a little, okay?"

Nora shot him a cold look and said, "It's not the food I don't have an appetite for, it's you."

Isaac's face went stiff.

Nora continued, "Get another nurse to feed me. I lose my appetite just looking at you."

Isaac's grip on the spoon tightened, his fingertips turning white. He stared at Nora with red eyes for a long moment, but she stayed distant and cold. Finally, he looked away, defeated, and stood up. "Alright, wait here. I'll get a nurse." He walked out, his tall figure looking a bit pitiful.

But Nora's heart stayed calm.

This pity act? She'd seen it before. She'd been too soft-hearted, falling into his trap and getting hurt. She wasn't falling for it again.

The nurse, a woman around fifty, arrived quickly.

Without a word, she fed Nora breakfast and then left with the meal box.

Isaac must've known Nora didn't want to see him, so he stayed away to avoid messing with her mood.

Nora stayed in the hospital for seven days. Her fractured rib had mostly healed, and the cast on her hand was off. She could now get out of bed and move around, ready to be discharged.

Isaac took care of the discharge papers and brought her back to the villa.

Nora didn't put up a fight. She wasn't fully recovered, and making a fuss wouldn't help. Even if she did, Isaac wouldn't let her go.

Plus, Mortimer hadn't gotten back to her yet, and she still didn't know where the kids were, so she wasn't in a rush to leave.

But her worry grew day by day.

It had been seven days, and Mortimer still hadn't responded or told her where Magnus and Soren were.

Was it really that hard to find them?

Nora was super worried, constantly praying for Magnus and Soren's safety.

She stayed at Isaac's villa for another half month. Thanks to the medicine Rhys provided, her bone injury, which would normally take three months to heal, was fully recovered in less than a month.

During this time, Mortimer, Magnus, and Soren hadn't contacted her.

She tried calling Magnus and Soren every day, but their phones were always off. Mortimer's phone was also unreachable. She grew more and more anxious.

Why wasn't Mortimer contacting her or answering her calls? Had something happened to Magnus and Soren, and he didn't dare tell her, so he deliberately lost contact?

That night, back in her room, Nora pulled out her phone and dialed Mortimer's number again.

The phone rang forever.

Just when she thought no one would pick up, the call connected. She was stunned for a second before snapping back to reality.

"Nora, I'm sorry. I've been grounded by my grandfather, and he took my phone, so I couldn't reach out. That's why I couldn't get in touch," Mortimer's apologetic voice came through.

Nora urgently asked, "Did you find out where Magnus and Soren were taken?"

Mortimer sighed, "After our last call, my grandfather found out. He grounded me for reflection. I didn't have time to instruct my men to investigate."

Nora's heart sank. She had thought Mortimer had already found out. But he hadn't even started looking.

She felt a wave of frustration and asked, "Then tell me, who did you hand them over to? I'll find them myself!"

Mortimer said, "Don't worry, I'll arrange for someone to check it right away."

Nora's voice trembled, and she spoke with a sob, "How can I not worry? They're my children, and they're only three years old!"

Meanwhile, Isaac's concerned voice came from the door. "Nora, what's wrong? Is something the matter?"

Nora's expression changed. She lowered her voice and said to Mortimer, "Text me later and tell me who you handed Magnus and Soren to. I have to go now."

After hanging up, she pretended to be nonchalant as she spoke to the door, "Nothing, I'm just watching a video."

Isaac was silent for a few seconds before saying in a deep voice, "Good. If you need anything, call me."

Nora asked, "Have you been standing at the door?"

Isaac said, "No, I was just passing by."

Nora didn't buy it.

Isaac's voice came again, "Rest well. I won't disturb you. Goodnight."

Nora didn't respond.

The door was quiet for a while before footsteps indicated Isaac had left.

Nora sighed in relief. Then she received a text message.

It was from Mortimer.

Nora quickly opened the message to check.

[I handed them over to Alaric, but now Alaric is also under my grandfather's control. He plans to replace everyone around me. I can't reach Alaric, so I can't investigate. But don't worry, I'll find a way as soon as possible. I promise I'll help you find Magnus and Soren.]

Nora's heart sank to the bottom.

With Alaric under control, if she couldn't reach him, she couldn't start the search.

[Nora, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have sent Magnus and Soren away. I regret it now. I'll do everything I can to help you find them. I hope you can forgive me. Back then, I thought you wouldn't come back. I was devastated and couldn't face reality. And Magnus looks like Isaac. Seeing him reminded me of the harm Isaac caused you. Soren looks like you. Seeing her reminded me of you. I couldn't face them, so I sent them away. It's not that I don't love them.]

Nora looked at the messages numbly.

[Nora, do you believe me?]

Nora replied: [Can I still believe you?]
