Chapter 172 Be Careful, I Might Cut Ties with You
When Nora came out of the bathroom, she saw Steve in the living room.
She gave him a cold glance and headed to the bedroom like nothing happened.
"Who was on the phone, babe?" Steve's voice, with a hint of coldness, stopped her at the door.
Nora froze. Did he see who had called? But his tone suggested he didn't know who it was.
"None of your business," she replied coldly.
Steve, gritting his teeth, asked, "Are you seeing someone else?"
"So what if I am?" Nora shot back.
Steve's face darkened with anger. Was she with Mortimer? Was that why she wanted to move in with him and end their deal early?
Nora slammed the bedroom door shut. Steve tried to follow but found it locked.
"Nora, open up," he knocked, but got no response. Frustrated, he went back to the living room.
The next morning, Steve was gone, but he left breakfast in the kitchen. Not wanting to waste it, Nora ate.
After breakfast, she packed her bags and called Mortimer.
"Mortimer, I've packed my things. Can you send someone to help me move? I'll stay with the kids starting tonight."
Mortimer chuckled, "Sure, I'll come help. Magnus and Soren will be thrilled."
"Did they have a rough night?" Nora asked.
"They cried for over an hour, but they'll be fine if you comfort them tonight," Mortimer said.
Nora felt guilty and heartbroken.
Half an hour later, Mortimer arrived. Nora handed him her suitcase and went to the shop.
At noon, a delivery person brought her lunch. She wondered who sent it. After a bite, she knew—only Steve could make food like this.
Nora sighed. Steve's kindness was becoming a problem. She worried he might develop feelings for her.
That evening, Steve showed up again, this time with groceries. He went straight to the kitchen to cook.
Nora followed him and said, "Steve, stop being so nice to me. No matter what you do, I'll never truly like you."
"I chose you as a stand-in because you look like my ex-husband. But now, I've let go of him. Do you think I'd fall for a stand-in?" she added.
Steve's eyes darkened.
Nora continued, "I've moved on from my ex. I find you annoying now. I don't want to see you at all, got it?"
Steve took a deep breath, holding back his irritation.
He turned back to cooking. "I'm just fulfilling the contract. Don't overthink it. We still have over a month left. I'll be here every day until it ends."
This was his only way to stay close to her. No matter what Nora said or did, he wouldn't leave. If he left, he wouldn't know how else to see her.
"You're so stubborn!" Nora snapped, leaving the kitchen.
Despite their argument, Nora still ate the dinner Steve made. It was already prepared, and wasting it seemed pointless.
After dinner, she started cleaning up, getting ready to close the store.
Steve took the cleaning supplies from her. "You rest, I'll do it."
Nora handed them over. For three billion, she figured it wasn't too much to have him cook and clean.
Just as she was about to sit down, an unexpected guest arrived.
"Nora, are you closing up?" It was Mortimer.
"Steve's here too?" Mortimer noticed Steve, a hint of surprise and darkness flashed in his eyes. He still suspected Steve might be Isaac.
Steve looked at Mortimer, calm but with a cold edge. What was this guy doing here?
The two men locked eyes, tension crackling between them.
Nora noticed and quickly broke the silence. "I'm just cleaning up. What brings you here?"
Mortimer finally looked away, smiling gently at Nora. "Didn't you say you were moving in today? I came to pick you up so you wouldn't need a cab."
He glanced at Steve, his eyes full of provocation.
Steve's face darkened. Nora still planned to move in with Mortimer? What was she thinking?
Steve glared at Mortimer. "Nora has a boyfriend. Why are you shamelessly luring her to live with you? Aren't you worried about the Radcliffe family's reputation?"
Before Mortimer could respond, Nora cut in. "Mortimer didn't lure me. I want to move in with him. He's kind-hearted and agreed to help."
"Nora!" Steve was furious. "You have no idea how insidious this man is, and you dare to move in with him? Aren't you afraid of being set up?"
Nora frowned. "Shut up, don't badmouth Mortimer!
"Mortimer is my good friend. He's helped me many times without expecting anything. He won't harm me!
"If you keep badmouthing him, I'll cut ties with you!"
