Chapter 178 Leave It All to Me

Nora turned and locked eyes with Isaac's intense gaze.

Isaac's gaze was emotionless and unsettlingly cold.

Nora's body instinctively shivered. She averted her eyes, unable to meet his stare.

"Isaac, thank goodness you're here! If you came any later, you wouldn't have seen me. Nora tried to kill me!" Kalista cried, playing the victim.

Isaac remained unchanged, his expression as indifferent as ever. He released Nora's wrist and placed the ashtray back on the table.

His eyes, however, stayed locked on Nora, unflinching and unfeeling.

Kalista was furious and cried louder. Nora was confused, thinking, 'Isaac is about to marry Kalista; he should care about her. So why does he look so indifferent?'

"What were you trying to do to her?" Isaac finally spoke, his voice flat.

Nora snapped back, feeling guilty. "I just wanted to have a word with her."

Kalista interjected sharply, "Is that what you call a 'word'? Trying to bash someone's head in with an ashtray?"

Isaac ignored Kalista, still looking at Nora. "Are you done?"

Nora was stunned and looked at him in surprise.

"If you haven't finished, go ahead. If you have, then leave," Isaac said coldly.

Nora looked bewildered.

She thought, 'Does he actually buy my story?

'Does he really believe such a flimsy excuse?

'He isn't even going to make me apologize to Kalista?'

After a few moments of stunned silence, Nora looked at Isaac for a second longer before turning and stumbling towards the door, lost in confusion.

"Isaac, how can you just let her leave? She tried to kill me! How can you believe her?" Kalista's indignant roar echoed behind her.

Isaac said coldly, "Are you hurt?"

Kalista answered, "No."

Isaac said, "Since you're not hurt, there's no proof she tried to kill you."

"That's because you came, and she had to stop!" Kalista was extremely angry.

Isaac said, "Since nothing happened and you weren't harmed, don't be so mean."

Kalista couldn't believe it. "Isaac, do you know what you're saying? I almost got killed by her, and you're saying I'm being petty?"

Isaac's tone remained indifferent, "If you want to make a scene, I'll take you both to the police station to give statements, and the engagement ceremony will be canceled."

Kalista instantly shut her mouth.

Despite her frustration and anger, Kalista swallowed her grievance.

She was more interested in her upcoming engagement to Isaac than punishing Nora. The idea of canceling her dream engagement just to get back at Nora seemed far too costly.

Besides, even if she let Nora go now, there would be other chances for revenge in the future.

By now, Nora had reached the door but could still hear the conversation inside. She glanced back, wondering if Isaac was keeping quiet to avoid ruining the engagement ceremony.

"Nora, what are you doing here?" a voice behind her interrupted her thoughts.

She turned to see Mortimer walking towards her, looking anxious. Collecting herself, she said, "Just wandering around. Let's go back to the banquet hall."

Mortimer glanced back at the room, catching Isaac's gaze just in time. The look Isaac gave was icy and menacing.

Mortimer offered a polite nod and a smile before turning back to Nora, and together they left the room.

Nora was lost in her thoughts as they walked. Mortimer tried several times to engage her in conversation, but she was completely zoned out.

"Nora," Mortimer raised his voice.

She snapped back to reality, looking confused. "What is it?"

Mortimer sighed lightly. "I told you, you don't need to take risks yourself. I've already arranged everything."

Nora looked surprised.

Mortimer smiled, patted her head, and spoke gently, "I told you, whatever you want to do, I'll help you. Just tell me what you want, and leave it to me. You don't need to risk getting hurt."

Nora's heart skipped a beat. The sincerity and warmth in Mortimer's eyes made her uneasy, unable to fully absorb his feelings. She looked away and whispered, "Thank you."

"You're welcome. I'm not helping you for thanks; I like helping you. Don't feel guilty or indebted. I'm just fulfilling my own desires," Mortimer said with a smile.

But Nora felt even more burdened. With different thoughts in their minds, they returned to the banquet hall.

The hall was filled with beautiful music, and couples were dancing. Mortimer smiled and asked, "May I have the honor of inviting you to dance with me?"

Nora replied, "My pleasure." She placed her hand in Mortimer's, and they joined the other dancers.

Their stunning looks and outstanding dance moves instantly made them the center of attention. Everyone's eyes naturally fell on them.

Nora lowered her voice and asked, "You said you've made arrangements. What did you arrange? How are you going to stop their engagement?"

Mortimer raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry, you'll find out soon."

Seeing his reluctance to elaborate, Nora decided to wait.

As their dance concluded, the surrounding crowd burst into enthusiastic applause.

Nora then realized that the other dancers had stopped and gathered around them at some point, watching with fascination.

She awkwardly smiled, not wanting to be the center of attention.

At that moment, she felt a strong gaze on her. She instinctively looked up and saw Isaac standing coldly on the temporary stage, his deep eyes fixed on her. Her heart lurched, and she felt a wave of guilt as though caught in the act.

Fortunately, Isaac's gaze quickly shifted away.

At this moment, the emcee beside him took the microphone and announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, the engagement ceremony of Isaac and Kalista is about to begin. Let's witness this beautiful moment together!"
