Chapter 224 Engagement
Nora squinted at the search results, clicking through each link with care. But after going through a dozen news articles, she still came up empty-handed.
All they said was that Isaac, the heir to Horizonia's top family, got pushed into a marriage three years ago, ditching his true love to marry some woman he didn't care about. And that was it.
No info on who Isaac's wife was—no name, no age, no photos.
Actually, when she first looked up Isaac, she didn't find any pictures of him either.
'Maybe it's because this is an international site, and Isaac and his wife are from Horizonia, so there's not much info here?' Nora thought. She decided to try Horizonia's local search engine instead.
When she searched there, she got way more results, but still no photos of Isaac.
The online explanation was that Isaac was a private guy who hated interviews.
So, even though he was Horizonia's youngest and most successful entrepreneur and now the richest man there, no photos of him were floating around online.
Nora skimmed through Isaac's bio, which mostly talked about how he doubled the profits of Porter Group, turning it into the biggest multinational corporation in the world.
'Isaac is seriously amazing, with such crazy skills at such a young age; he's like a superhero!
'How could someone that incredible end up marrying me? I'm just a nobody artist; we're in totally different leagues. How would I ever meet someone like him?
'Griffin must have mixed me up with someone else, or like Mortimer said, he's a scammer.
'If I fall for it, the next thing he'll do is ask me for money, saying he needs it to set up a meeting with my "husband."
'This world is full of scams; good thing I didn't buy into it!' Nora thought.
After reading up on Isaac, Nora was 100% sure she couldn't be his wife.
But she was super curious about who the young richest man in Horizonia's wife was.
What kind of woman could make a big shot like Isaac dump his true love and marry her?
Nora kept digging for info on Isaac's wife. This time, she found more stuff.
"Three years ago, Isaac had to give up his true love and marry his first love, who had once betrayed him. After the wedding, Isaac still loved his true love and kept seeing her, ignoring his new wife.
"Three months ago, Isaac announced he had divorced his wife six months earlier, but it was never made public.
"Half a month ago, Isaac's ex-wife died unexpectedly. Isaac has been drinking heavily and is drowning in grief, with people spotting him in a bar crying and calling out his ex-wife's name.
"Five days after his ex-wife's death, Isaac cried himself blind."
Nora's eyebrow twitched. 'What the hell is this? Didn't Isaac love his true love and have no feelings for his ex-wife who betrayed him? Why would he cry himself blind after their divorce and her death? This is clearly made-up garbage! Even if you're going to make stuff up, at least include Isaac's ex-wife's name!'
Nora scoured the whole article but couldn't find any mention of Isaac's ex-wife's name. Not even her age or last name.
Nora wasn't ready to give up and kept checking other articles.
Some were even crazier.
Some said Isaac was forced by his grandpa to marry his ex-wife and hinted that his ex-wife had an affair with his grandpa.
Others claimed Isaac was gay and that his ex-wife and true love were just a cover to fool the public.
The more she read, the more absurd it all seemed, so Nora decided to shut down the webpage.
Isaac wasn't a celebrity, so there wasn't much info about him online. Most of the stuff about his private life was just wild rumors.
Finding any real info online was a long shot.
Nora gave up. She was already sure she couldn't be involved with someone like Isaac.
Griffin was just a scammer. No point wasting time on this.
Nora put down her phone and decided to rest, letting the whole thing slip from her mind.
The next day, Mortimer told her he'd picked a date for their engagement and wanted her opinion.
Nora smiled and said, "You handle it; I'm good with whatever. I'm not working right now, so I'm free anytime. Whatever works for you."
Mortimer beamed, his eyes full of joy. "Let's set the engagement for half a month from now. That'll give us enough time to get your dress tailored and for you to take care of your health."
Nora nodded with a smile. "Sounds good."
That afternoon, Mortimer arranged for a top designer to take Nora's measurements.
After that, they took her to pick out her favorite dress styles.
Whatever she liked, the designer would start making it just for her.
Some dresses had samples, others were just sketches.
Nora wasn't too picky and casually chose two sets.
Mortimer suggested, "Why not pick out a wedding dress too?"
Nora was surprised. "We haven't even gotten engaged yet; isn't it too soon for a wedding dress?"
"Not at all," Mortimer said seriously. "Once we're engaged, we can start planning the wedding. By choosing the dress now, they can take their time making it. If you don't like it when it's done, there's still time to make changes."
Nora thought he had a point and nodded. "Alright, I'll leave it to you."
Since she and Mortimer were going to get married eventually, getting the wedding dress ready early wasn't a bad idea.
These handmade dresses took a long time to make. Starting early meant the workers wouldn't have to rush and could do a great job.
Mortimer, full of tenderness, helped her pick out wedding dress styles.
Nora didn't have many requirements for the dress, but Mortimer had lots of opinions.
"I want to give you an unforgettable wedding," Mortimer said. "You should marry me looking your absolute best. So, we can't rush picking the dress."
Nora went along with him, spending over an hour picking out three potential wedding dresses, her eyes getting tired from all the looking.
They also spent a lot of time choosing the engagement ring and other items.
Just picking out these things took two days.
After choosing the dresses and ring, Nora didn't have to worry about anything else; Mortimer handled all the arrangements.
With some free time, Nora focused on learning about her surroundings and trying to regain her old skills.
Luckily, even though she had lost her memory, she hadn't forgotten how to draw.
After a few days of practice, her drawing skills came back.
She decided that after the engagement, she would open her own studio and focus on her career. Even though Mortimer seemed very wealthy and she wouldn't have to worry about anything, she still wanted to have her own value.
Mortimer had given her a card, telling her to buy whatever she wanted and that she didn't have to do anything, but she still wanted to be independent.
Time flew by, and before she knew it, half a month had passed. The day of Nora and Mortimer's engagement had arrived.
