Chapter 215 To Get Her, At Any Cost
Nora was just lying there, totally out of it.
Mortimer gently stroked her pale face, like he was handling some rare, fragile treasure.
His eyes were all dreamy, like he could stare at her forever.
After what felt like ages, he finally pulled his hand back.
He glanced at the court doc behind him and asked, "So, how's Nora doing?"
The royal doc replied, "Ms. Foster's not in any immediate danger. But, as you asked, I've been giving her sedatives to keep her in a deep sleep. She hasn't woken up at all. Whenever you want her to wake up, I can give her a stimulant."
Nora had stabbed herself in the chest, but missed her heart that night. Still, she was pretty messed up.
Mortimer had bribed the doc to say Nora had died, then snuck her away.
Thanks to Isaac being knocked out from grief for days, Mortimer had the chance to pull some strings and claim Nora's body had been cremated.
If Isaac hadn't been out cold and fighting for Nora's body, Mortimer wouldn't have gotten away with it so easily.
To him, it was all destiny.
God wanted him to have Nora, so everything was falling into place.
"You can all leave now," Mortimer said coolly.
"Yes, sir."
The maid and the royal doc left the room respectfully.
Mortimer stared at Nora on the bed, lost in his thoughts.
After a long while, he tucked her in and kissed her forehead.
He whispered, "Nora, sleep a bit longer. Once I sort everything out, I'll wake you up. Just hang in there."
Mortimer gave her one last deep look before heading to the study.
Once in the study, Mortimer pulled out his phone and made a call.
"How's it going? Have you reached Allen?" he asked coldly. "Tell him if he agrees to my terms and nails it, I'll give him a hundred million bucks."
The person on the other end said, "I've talked to him, but Allen says your offer's too low. He wants a billion."
"A billion? Is he nuts?" Mortimer muttered, frowning.
Alaric awkwardly said, "Allen said..."
Mortimer snapped, "What did he say? Spit it out!"
Alaric replied, "Allen said for such a shady job, he won't do it for less than a billion."
Mortimer's face darkened.
Shady?
Yeah, what he wanted Allen to do was kinda sketchy.
But he didn't think it was shady.
Mortimer closed his eyes, took a deep breath to calm down, and said, "Bring Allen here. I agree to his terms."
"What? You're really gonna give Allen a billion? Are you sure? That's a ton of money!" Alaric asked, shocked.
Mortimer replied, "Yeah, I've thought it through. A billion it is. As long as I get what I want, I'll pay him."
Alaric asked, his voice shaking, "Is it worth it?"
Mortimer said, "It's worth it for her."
Alaric sighed, "Alright, I'll get in touch with Allen now."
Mortimer hung up.
He sat in the study, kinda lost in thought.
Allen was a famous hypnotist.
Word was, his hypnosis skills were so good he could even mess with people's memories.
Even if someone had never experienced something, once Allen worked his magic, they'd believe it happened and be totally convinced.
Mortimer pulled out a small notebook from the cabinet.
He opened it to reveal lines of writing."I am Nora. My lover is Mortimer. We've known each other for ten years and have been in love for six. I love him very much, more than my own life. Mortimer is the man I love most in this life, and I will marry no one but him."
This was the story he wanted Nora to buy into.
If Allen could make Nora believe this, a billion bucks would be a steal.
Mortimer muttered to himself, "Nora, don't hate me. I gotta do this. And honestly, it's for your own good. If you keep remembering Isaac, you'll always be in pain. So, you should forget him and only think of me.
"I'm the only one who truly wants you to be happy. No matter what you've done, I'll never blame you or hurt you. I love you more purely than anyone else in this world.
"Isaac might love you too, but his love is selfish. He just wants to own you and can't handle even the smallest mistake you make.
"If he loved you like I do, loving everything about you and accepting all your flaws, you wouldn't have been hurt so much."
Mortimer kept trying to convince himself.
But he couldn't shake the guilt and pain gnawing at his heart.
If only Nora could fall for him on her own, that would be perfect.
He wished Nora could remember their past and willingly accept him.
Even though he never really had Nora all these years, the time spent with her made him happy. He didn't want those memories to vanish.
But he knew Nora's heart belonged to Isaac. Even if Isaac hurt her deeply, she still loved him.
Without some drastic measures, he'd never have her in this lifetime. Some things were just meant to be imperfect.
By evening, Alaric brought Allen to the palace.
Mortimer had expected a world-renowned hypnotist like Allen to be much older.
But when they met, he realized Allen was about the same age as him.
Mortimer hesitated, suddenly doubting Allen's skills.
Allen seemed to catch on to Mortimer's doubt and said with a smirk, "If you're unsure about my skills, you can pay me after the job's done."
Mortimer nodded, saying, "Then follow me upstairs."
Mortimer personally led Allen to Nora's room, dismissing the servants.
Mortimer looked lovingly at Nora on the bed and said to Allen, "I want her to believe that I'm her lover, the man she loves most in this life, and that she'll marry no one but me and never leave me."
Allen shrugged and said, "I just handle the hypnosis. Whether she leaves you or not, that's out of my hands."
Mortimer pressed his lips together, staying silent.
Allen, with a half-smile, said, "I didn't expect Prince Mortimer to be so passionate, willing to drop a billion bucks to hypnotize a woman. With that kind of money, you could have any woman you want. Why stick to one who loves someone else?"
Mortimer's eyes turned icy as he glared at Allen. He snapped, "How do you know she loves someone else? Do you know her?"
