Chapter 151 The Child is Missing
Nora followed the sound and saw Magnus and Soren. She didn't know when they had started eavesdropping.
Nora wasn't sure how much they had overheard. But if she wanted to send them away, they heard it.
At this moment, Magnus was full of anger, while Soren looked heartbroken, tears welling up in his eyes.
"You just said you wouldn't abandon me and Soren, but now you're secretly asking Uncle Mortimer to send us away. You're a big liar!" Magnus accused angrily.
Nora hurriedly said, "I'm not abandoning you. I just..."
"Liar, I don't want to hear your excuses!" Magnus was very angry.
He ran to the door, trying to open it, and ran out.
But Nora had already locked the door. He couldn't open it after several tries.
At this moment, Nora walked over and picked him up in her arms.
"Let me go. Don't hold me!" Magnus struggled angrily."Magnus, calm down. I'm not abandoning you. I'm worried you won't get used to it here and that you might be in danger. Bad people might take you away. That's why I want you to go back. I promise you. I'll video call you every day and stay in touch every day, okay?" Nora patiently explained.
"No!" Magnus shouted angrily, "You just don't want me and Soren around! Other kids live with their parents. Why won't you let us stay with you?"
Nora felt guilty and didn't know how to answer.
Magnus choked up and said, "Since you don't want me and Soren with you, then don't be our mommy anymore. You never wanted us anyway!"
Soren had already started crying on the side. Nora felt heartbroken.
Mortimer spoke gently, "Magnus, you misunderstand your mommy. She loves you more than anyone in the world. The reason she doesn't want you to stay with her is that she has many enemies here. She's afraid her enemies will hurt you."
Magnus bit his lip in grievance, still very angry.
Mortimer looked at Nora and said, "Nora, why don't you let them stay?"
Nora frowned.
Although she didn't want the kids to be sad, she was more afraid that if they stayed, Isaac would find out.
Mortimer seemed to read her mind and smiled. "I know what you're worried about, but I have a solution."
Nora looked skeptical. "What solution?"
Mortimer said, "When they go out, they can wear masks to cover their faces so they won't be recognized."
Nora was stunned. That might work.
She put Magnus down next to Soren, looked at the two seriously, and asked, "You can stay with me, but whenever you go outside, you must wear masks to cover your faces. No one can see what you really look like. Can you do that?"
Soren immediately nodded vigorously. "Yes!"
Magnus, though still unhappy, also nodded.
Mortimer added, "One more thing. In front of others, you can't call her mommy. You can only call her that in private. And you can't live with her. You have to come home with me and live with me."
"Why can't we live with mommy?" Soren asked unhappily.
Mortimer said, "Didn't I just explain? Your mommy has many enemies here. If you live with her, her enemies will target you. It will be dangerous."
Soren nodded, half understanding.
Magnus asked awkwardly, "Then won't mommy be in danger?"
Mortimer said, "I'll assign people to protect your mommy. But if you're with her, I won't be able to protect her."
Although Magnus and Soren wanted to live with their mommy, they had to accept his arrangement after hearing this.
"Okay, we'll live with Mortimer," Magnus said. Nora gave Mortimer a grateful look.
Mortimer smiled warmly at her. "They come in a hurry and don't bring much. I'll take them to buy some things."
Nora said, "I'll go with you. We're closed today."
Mortimer said, "Alright, I'll have someone buy the masks and bring them over first."
Nora nodded.
Mortimer immediately contacted his subordinates. Soon, they brought two children's masks.
One was a little wolf, while the other was a little lamb. The masks only covered the nose and above, not affecting their breathing or eating.
Nora personally helped them put on the masks, ensuring their faces were unrecognizable, then took them out.
Nora and Mortimer took the two kids to a nearby mall to buy clothes, shoes, and some daily necessities. They also bought some toys.
There were a lot of things at home that were different from abroad.
The two little ones found everything new and exciting, soon breaking free from their hands and running around excitedly.
"Magnus, Soren, don't run around. Don't bump into people." Nora followed them helplessly.
But the two little ones were like wild horses, not listening at all.
They were also very outgoing, playing with other kids without any shyness.
Nora was both amused and exasperated.
However, seeing them so happy, she was pleased too. The biggest wish in her heart was for them to grow up happily.
Nora watched Magnus and Soren with a smile. Suddenly, a sharp pain hit her stomach.
Nora turned pale with the pain, cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
She forced herself to endure the discomfort and quickly ran to find a restroom.
Once inside, she was so weak from the pain that she collapsed onto the toilet.
She fumbled through her bag, found her painkillers, took out two pills, and hurriedly swallowed them.
Nora sat on the toilet for a few minutes until the pain subsided.
She covered her face with her hands, feeling a sense of helplessness wash over her.
Her stomach pains had been occurring more frequently and without warning lately.
Each episode reminded her that she didn't have much time left.
She had everything arranged and was ready to face death calmly.
But now, with the kids brought to her side, her life was completely disrupted.
Seeing how much the kids depended on her, Nora felt deeply pained.
'How can I make them accept that I would soon leave them?' Nora pondered.
Before she could think further, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was Mortimer calling.
"Mortimer, what's up?" Nora asked.
"Nora, where do you take the kids? I can't find you," Mortimer asked.
"I'm in the restroom. I don't take Magnus and Soren. Aren't you watching them?" Nora asked.
"When getting a call from the company, I see you are watching them, so I step away to take the call. When I come back, you are gone," Mortimer replied. Nora's heart sank.
'Has Mortimer already left before I go to the restroom?' she thought.
Nora quickly ran out of the restroom and back to the toy store.
Mortimer was standing at the entrance, holding his phone.
She ran over and anxiously asked, "Mortimer, are the kids not in the store?"
Mortimer turned to her and shook his head. "No, I ask the staff, but with too many kids, they don't notice. I've already contacted the manager to check the surveillance footage and sent people to search nearby. They shouldn't have gone far in such a short time."
Nora was extremely anxious.
She deeply regretted not checking if Mortimer was around before leaving.
'What if Magnus and Soren couldn't be found?' Nora shook her head hard, refusing to think negatively.
"Mommy!" Just then, a childish voice called from behind.
It was Soren's voice.
Nora quickly turned around.
"Soren, why are you alone? Where's Magnus?" Nora asked anxiously.
Soren looked aggrieved. "Magnus and I are playing hide and seek. I can't find where he hides."
