Chapter 255 Do You Like Him?
Nora paused for a second and said, "Mortimer did look after me for a bit, maybe that's why he got held up."
Magnus and Soren seemed to relax a little. Deep down, they didn't want to think Mortimer was ignoring them on purpose. To them, Mortimer was a big part of the family too.
Nora sighed quietly.
She had a hunch that Mortimer was involved. But without solid proof that he'd intentionally sent the kids away, she didn't want to mess up Mortimer's image in their minds and break their hearts.
If she found out Mortimer was behind this, she'd tell them, even if it made Magnus and Soren sad. She'd make sure they stayed away from him.
Anyone who had bad intentions towards her kids, no matter how sorry they were, would never be allowed near them again.
The next day, Nora still didn't go to the store. She took a few days off to hang out with Magnus and Soren.
Isaac still made them delicious food before leaving.
All Nora had to do was bring the dishes to the table, and they could eat.
"Mommy, does Uncle Isaac like you?" Soren asked while sipping hot milk.
Magnus looked at her curiously too.
Nora was caught off guard.
If anyone else had asked her, she wouldn't have been so flustered. But Soren was only three years old, did she even understand what liking someone meant?
Before Nora could respond, Soren continued, "Mommy, Uncle Isaac is really nice, and his cooking is yummy. If you like him, you should be with him. I don't mind. Magnus, do you mind?"
Magnus shook his head. He didn't mind either.
Nora coughed a bit before saying, "Don't talk nonsense. I don't like him."
Soren tilted her head, confused. "But Uncle Isaac has been staying here, and he always cooks for you. If you don't like him, why would you let him stay here?"
Nora couldn't tell them it was all part of a deal with Isaac, could she?
She brushed it off. "It's a long story, and it doesn't matter. Hurry up and eat. After breakfast, I'll take you to the amusement park."
Soren's eyes lit up at the mention of the amusement park, and she instantly forgot the previous question.
After breakfast, Nora took them out.
They played at the amusement park for most of the day.
Magnus and Soren had a blast.
Even the usually quiet Magnus had a smile on his face.
But sometimes, when they saw kids playing with their parents, a look of envy would appear in their eyes.
Nora felt a pang of guilt. It was all her fault that they had never experienced a father's love since birth.
They played at the park until 6 p.m. before heading home.
When they got home, Isaac was cooking in the kitchen.
Nora looked at his domestic figure, feeling very conflicted.
"Did you take them to the amusement park? You should go take a bath and change into clean clothes. By the time you're done, dinner will be ready," Isaac said with a smile.
Nora quietly took the kids to their room to help them get cleaned up.
By the time they came out, dinner was already on the table.
The four of them sat down and started eating.
"Uncle Isaac, do you like Nora?" Soren suddenly blurted out during the meal.
Nora nearly choked on her soup, spraying it all over Isaac.
She quickly grabbed some napkins to help him clean up. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to."
But since it was soup, even after wiping it off, there were still greasy stains left.
Nora felt really bad looking at his greasy hair and clothes.
"It's okay, I'll just wash up later," Isaac said softly.
Nora awkwardly sat back down and then looked at Soren, scolding, "Eat your food properly and don't talk nonsense."
Soren blinked and then silently lowered her head, eating quietly.
The meal ended in an awkward silence.
As soon as they finished eating, Nora took the kids back to their room and sternly told them, "Don't ask such questions again, understand?"
"Why not?" Soren asked, "I feel like he really likes you. Why can't I ask?"
Nora said, "That's just an illusion!"
Isaac was really good at pretending, even the kids were fooled by his act!
Soren still didn't get it.
Nora patted her little head. "Don't worry about adult stuff."
"OK." Soren nodded, feeling disappointed. She actually hoped that Nora and Isaac would be together.
If Nora married Isaac, he would become her stepdad, and she could call him Daddy.
But since Nora was already upset, she didn't dare to say it out loud.
Nora played with the kids for a while and then put them to bed.
After a period of no contact, Mortimer called at that moment.
Nora turned off the sound and looked coldly at the screen, feeling a surge of anger.
The call automatically hung up.
After a while, it rang again.
Nora took the phone, walked into the bathroom, closed the door, and then answered the call.
"Nora, are you asleep? Why did it take so long to answer?" Mortimer's usual gentle voice came from the other end.
Nora said in a low voice, "I didn't notice earlier. Do you need something? Do you have any news about Magnus and Soren?"
Mortimer apologized, "I'm sorry, Nora. I was grounded by my grandfather again. He found out I was contacting you and took my phone for a while. That's why it took me so long to get in touch, and I couldn't search for your kids. When Isaac took you away, he made a deal with my grandfather, investing five billion dollars in Equinoxia's railway construction, but he demanded that my grandfather keep me in Equinoxia and not let me return to Horizonia to find you. Nora, I'm currently helpless. Otherwise, I would definitely do everything I could to help you find the children!"
Nora just listened silently, her heart unmoved.
After he finished speaking, she asked, "Do you really not know where Magnus and Soren were sent?"
Mortimer said, "I don't know. At that time, I only had you in my mind and didn't care about them. I just told my people to find a good family for them."
Nora sneered, "Are you sure you found a good family for them?"
