Chapter 167 Thank You for Pushing Her Towards Me
Nora walked down the street, feeling down.
Passing by a clothing store, she glanced at her reflection in the mirror.
Her makeup was flawless, and she was dressed to impress.
Seeing herself all dolled up, she felt a wave of irony.
She had dressed up for a date, only to be humiliated.
How could Isaac be so heartless?
How could he use her feelings for revenge?
Nora stared at her reflection, feeling like a joke.
Suddenly, she started rubbing her face, smearing the makeup she had spent hours on, as if trying to scrub her skin off.
"Nora, what are you doing here?" a gentle voice came from behind.
A tall, slender figure approached her.
"Why are you crying? What happened?" Mortimer asked, grabbing her hand to stop her from hurting herself.
Nora's tears flowed, and she choked out, "Let go of me!"
Mortimer pulled her into his arms, saying softly, "Cry if you need to, but don't hurt yourself. If you injure your face, how will Magnus and Soren react when they see it? They'll worry."
His words made Nora stop struggling.
She clutched his shirt, burying her face in his chest, sobbing.
Mortimer gently patted her back, silently comforting her.
Not far away, Isaac stood behind a billboard, watching them with a dark gaze, fists clenched.
Mortimer sensed something watching them, looked up, and met Isaac's cold eyes.
He paused, then smiled gently and wrapped his arms around Nora, almost defiantly.
Isaac's eyes grew darker, his aura dangerous.
People passing by shivered and quickly moved away from him.
Mortimer looked down at Nora and said softly, "Let's go home."
Nora was still crying, lost in her sorrow, not hearing Mortimer.
He sighed, picked her up, and walked to the car parked nearby.
"Put me down, I can walk," Nora said, coming to her senses and stiffening.
Mortimer chuckled. "Alright."
But he had already carried her to the car. He placed her in the back seat and got in himself.
Nora felt a bit uncomfortable.
Mortimer handed her a tissue. "Wipe your tears."
"Thank you," Nora said, taking the tissue.
She wiped her tears and tried to calm down.
She still hadn't calmed down when the car stopped.
Nora's heart still ached, making it hard to breathe.
"Get out, wash your face, and get some sleep," Mortimer said gently, patting her head.
Nora looked outside and realized they were at Mortimer's house.
She looked at him, confused.
Mortimer smiled. "I can't leave you like this. Stay here tonight. Once you feel better, you can go home."
Nora felt a bit hesitant.
Mortimer added, "The kids need you too."
At the mention of the kids, Nora's defenses crumbled.
Right. Her kids were here.
She had been gone for days and just returned today. The kids were still scared. As their mom, she needed to be with them.
Besides, only her kids could ease her pain right now.
Nora got out of the car and followed Mortimer into the villa.
"Mommy!"
Magnus and Soren, just awake and coming downstairs for food, ran happily towards Nora when they saw her.
But when they saw her smeared face, they looked worried.
"Mommy, what happened to your face?"
Nora forced a smile and said softly, "Mommy's fine, just got some paint on my face. I'll wash it off."
The two little ones sighed in relief.
Soren hugged her leg and sweetly pleaded, "Mommy, can you stay with us tonight?"
Magnus didn't say anything but looked at her longingly.
Mortimer said, "The servants told me that when they woke up and didn't see you, they cried for a long time. That's why I went to find you."
Nora felt a pang of sadness.
She gently rubbed the kids' heads and said softly, "Alright, I'll stay with you tonight. Go eat, I'll wash my face."
Magnus and Soren immediately smiled with joy.
They held hands and went to the dining room.
Mortimer said gently, "I'll take you upstairs to wash your face."
Nora nodded and followed him upstairs to a room.
Lost in thought, she didn't notice it was Mortimer's bedroom.
She followed him into the bathroom, and Mortimer handed her some face wash.
After she washed her face, Mortimer handed her a set of pajamas.
Nora looked up at him.
Mortimer smiled, "Aren't you staying here with Magnus and Soren? You can't sleep in those clothes.
"I don't have women's pajamas, so I found a new set for you. They're a bit big, but they should fit."
Nora frowned.
These pajamas were his?
Nora felt a bit repulsed.
Mortimer said, "Don't worry, I really haven't worn them. Look, the tags are still on."
Nora glanced and saw the tags were indeed still attached.
She finally reached out and took the pajamas. "Thank you."
Mortimer chuckled. "No need to be so polite. Go take a shower, I'll leave."
"Okay."
After hearing the door close, Nora took the pajamas and went into the bathroom.
Half an hour later, she came out wearing the oversized men's pajamas.
She walked out of the room and saw Mortimer standing at the door.
Mortimer said gently, "Magnus and Soren have gone back to their room. Go find them, I won't disturb you."
Nora nodded and walked towards the kids' room.
Mortimer watched her leave.
Only after she disappeared did Mortimer withdraw his gaze and enter the room.
He walked to the bed and picked up a small camera from the bedside table.
The camera had captured footage of Nora entering and leaving the bathroom.
Mortimer took a snapshot of Nora wearing his pajamas and exiting the bathroom, then sent it to his phone.
He then sent the photo to Isaac with the caption:
[Isaac, thank you. If it weren't for you breaking Nora's heart, she wouldn't have come home with me.]
