Chapter 282 Mortimer Admits His Mistake

Nora suppressed her displeasure and forced a smile. "Mortimer has his own family and his own house, he can't stay with us forever."

Magnus bit his lip, his eyes instantly dimming, with tears welling up.

Mortimer said, "If it's to accompany Magnus and Soren, I can always make time for them. After all, I've been with them for the past three years."

"Of course, that's if you want me to. If you don't want me around, I won't approach them without your permission and upset you."

Magnus's eyes darkened further. "Mommy, you don't want us to see uncle Mortimer, right? And you make excuses saying it's uncle Mortimer's reason. How can you do this? He raised Soren and me. It's unfair to keep us away from him. "

Nora's heart sank, looking at Magnus in disbelief. She felt even more pain.

In Magnus's heart, was she such a despicable person?

But her hardships, the grudges between adults, couldn't be told to the children. Even if she told them, they might not understand her.

After all, during their past three years of growth, it was Mortimer who was by their side, and she had missed out on so much.

"Magnus, don't talk to your mommy like that. She has her reasons for everything she does. She's the one who loves you the most in the world. You can't misunderstand her or make her sad," Mortimer sternly educated Magnus.

Magnus, however, pressed his lips tightly together and said nothing.

Nora took a deep breath, suppressing her irritation. "It's okay, it's my fault."

She had spent too little time with them, which made them overly dependent on Mortimer.

Children are simple, whoever treats them well, they like, without caring about other complexities.

"Can you please stay tonight and keep Magnus company?" Nora asked.

Mortimer smiled and nodded. "Of course, I was afraid you wouldn't let me. I've missed them a lot after being apart for so long."

Magnus immediately stopped crying and smiled. "Thank you, Mommy."

Nora smiled and pinched his cheek. "Honey, you are welcome."

Her apartment had three bedrooms and two living rooms.

She tidied up that room, letting Mortimer and Magnus sleep there for the night.

Mortimer called someone to bring some of his things over and then said to Nora, "It's getting late. You should rest. I'll take care of Magnus."

Nora nodded, thanked him, and turned to go back to her room.

The next morning, Soren was very happy to see Mortimer. She ran to Mortimer and opened her arms for a hug.

Mortimer squatted down and picked her up.

Soren immediately kissed him on the cheek. "Uncle Mortimer, where have you been hiding? Why did it take you so long to come see us?"

Mortimer glanced at Nora and then smiled. "I've been busy and didn't have time to see you. I'm sorry."

"But from now on, as long as you want to see me and your mommy allows it, I'll come to see you every day, okay?"

Soren nodded happily. "Great!"

Nora felt that Mortimer did it on purpose.

Now that he said this, if Magnus and Soren wanted to see him in the future and she refused, they would think it was her who didn't want them to meet. Although that was indeed what she thought.

"Uncle Mortimer, will you come over tonight to keep me company?" Magnus suddenly asked.

Mortimer said, "I just said, as long as you need me, I can come anytime, unless..." He didn't continue but glanced at Nora, stopping mid-sentence.

Magnus looked at Nora. "Mommy, can we let Uncle Mortimer stay with us?"

Soren chimed in, "I agree, I also want to be with Uncle Mortimer!"

Nora patted their heads. "It's almost time for school. I'll take you to school first, and we'll talk about this after you get back."

She couldn't agree. So she could only change the subject.

Children have short memories, by evening, they might not insist on Mortimer.

Mortimer said, "I'll take you to school."

Nora nodded.

After dropping Magnus and Soren off at kindergarten, Mortimer asked her to sit down at a nearby café to talk.

Nora didn't refuse.

They sat facing each other in silence for a long time.

It wasn't until they were halfway through their coffee that Mortimer sighed and apologized to Nora, "Nora, I'm sorry."

Nora looked down at her coffee cup, not looking up at him. "You don't need to apologize. Magnus told me that their being sold to the mountain village had nothing to do with you."

Mortimer gave a bitter smile. "No matter how I explained before, you didn't believe me. But when Magnus said it, you believed. But I can't blame you. After all, I made mistakes first."

Nora didn't respond, tacitly agreeing with his statement.

Mortimer continued, "But I'm not apologizing for the kids. I'm apologizing for deceiving you into getting engaged to me. I'm sorry, I did something stupid."

Nora finally looked up at him.

Their eyes met.

Mortimer's eyes were gentle and sincere, as if he had confessed everything to her.

Nora stared at him for a while before asking, "Did I lose my memory on my own, or did you do something?"

Mortimer's eyes darkened.

Nora said, "Although I've never lost my memory before, I think even if I did, I wouldn't suddenly have a memory that never happened."

"I forgot everything but remembered you and thought you were my lover. Did you have a hand in this?"

Mortimer subconsciously tightened his grip on the cup.

After a moment, he smiled wryly and said, "Yes, I had you hypnotized."

Not just hypnotized, but also injected with drugs.

Isaac would definitely find out that she had been injected with hypnotic drugs.

Even if Mortimer didn't admit it, he would be exposed.

It was better to admit it upfront, at least making Nora feel that he truly realized his mistake, hoping to regain her trust.
