Chapter 304 Can't Hate Him Anymore
Nora suddenly remembered the time when she had just brought Magnus and Soren back, and Isaac was distant towards them.
She thought, 'He must have thought that they were Mortimer's children, so he didn't like them and deliberately distanced himself from them, right? Later on, because he knew that she had opinions about his attitude towards the children, he then changed his attitude, right?'Nora didn't know how much mental preparation he had done to force himself to accept 'someone else's' children. But she could imagine that for someone as proud as Isaac to make such a big concession, he must have been in a lot of pain and made a huge decision.
She swallowed and was silent for a long time before asking, "Did you really never think about getting back at me?"
Isaac answered truthfully, "I thought about it, but in the end, I couldn't bring myself to do it."
Nora didn't know how to respond for a moment.
"If you don't believe in my feelings for you, you can check what I did after you faked your death. I buried your ashes in the Porter family cemetery, planning to be buried with you after I die. If I didn't love you, why would I insist on doing it despite the opposition from the Porter family? At that time, I didn't know you were still alive. Those actions were not an act."
Isaac's answer shocked Nora again.
She thought, 'He actually wanted to bury her ashes in the Porter family cemetery? If this was true, then his feelings for her were indeed not an act. So, he really misunderstood that she had children with Mortimer, felt deceived, and deliberately turned his confession into humiliation to save face?
Her mind was in turmoil, and she couldn't say a word. After a long while, she asked in a trembling voice, "Did you really not have someone retaliate against Magnus?"
Isaac said, "I never thought about retaliating against him, but now I can't find any evidence to prove my innocence." He had people look for surveillance footage of the road where the accident happened, but it was found that the footage had been destroyed.
Nora was silent. But her heart seemed to waver.
Isaac wasn't the type to do something and not admit it.
Maybe it really was just an accident.
Isaac didn't hear her response and didn't say anything more. He then suddenly sat up, got out of bed in the dark. "Soren is already asleep. I'll go sleep in the guest room. You should rest early."
Nora initially didn't want to sleep with him, and because Soren clung to her, she then agreed to let him sleep with them.
Now that Soren was asleep, Isaac didn't want to make her uncomfortable, so he offered to leave.
Nora looked at Isaac's retreating figure, wanting to say something but stopping.
Actually, Isaac could stay. When he was lying next to her, she felt very at ease. During the day, when he held her to sleep, she miraculously had a good sleep. But now that he had already walked out, she couldn't bring herself to call him back.
That night, Nora had insomnia again. Not because she had slept during the day. But because of what Isaac had said.
The next day, when she got up and saw Isaac in the living room, she was too embarrassed to look at him directly.
Isaac, on the other hand, looked calm and composed. He had even made breakfast early.
Soren was very happy and became more cheerful than in the past few days. "It's been a long time since I had Daddy's breakfast. I want two servings today!" She said with a big smile.
Isaac picked her up and placed a breakfast in front of her. "Eat this first, and I'll give you more after you finish."
Soren immediately started eating in big bites. In the end, her little belly was so full that she couldn't walk and pouted, asking Isaac to carry her, "Daddy, carry me. My tummy is too full, I can't walk." She then opened her arms, looking very pitiful.
Isaac squatted down to pick her up, grabbed the car keys, and walked out.
Nora silently followed them, looking at Isaac's back with mixed feelings.
They sent Soren to school together and then went to the hospital.
Nora first went with Isaac to visit Edmund.
After lying in bed for a few days, Edmund looked even more haggard.
Nora felt a pang of sadness and guilt. She pondered, 'If the person who pushed Edmund wasn't Magnus, but a child unrelated to her, even if Isaac had really sent someone to retaliate against that child, she probably wouldn't feel so heartbroken. Edmund had suffered this disaster for no reason. Even if he could wake up, at his age, going through such an ordeal would be very damaging to his health and shorten his lifespan.'
Thinking this, Nora suddenly couldn't hate Isaac anymore. Even if Isaac had really sent someone to retaliate against Magnus, she could understand. Although rationally, she knew that a child who made a mistake didn't have the capacity to take responsibility, and the blame should fall on the guardian.
"Grandpa, I'm sorry," Nora looked at the unconscious Edmund with red-rimmed eyes and apologized guiltily, "I'm sorry I can't avenge you." Edmund had been so good to her, but she could only watch as he was harmed like this and couldn't do something for him.
"He wouldn't blame you," Isaac said softly, "No matter what you do, he wouldn't blame you. If you blame yourself in front of him, he would only worry more."
Nora's heart ached even more. It was because she knew this that she felt even more guilty and couldn't forgive herself.
Seeing her tears falling uncontrollably, Isaac could only silently help her wipe them away.
After a long time, Nora's emotions finally calmed down.
They stayed in Edmund's room for nearly an hour before she got up to leave, planning to check on Magnus.
Isaac followed her.
Nora didn't stop him.
They walked into Magnus's room together.
Magnus's cardiopulmonary function had recovered quickly, and the ventilator had been removed. His other injuries weren't severe, but his hand and foot were broken and needed to be repaired, so he couldn't move around.
"Magnus, how are you feeling today?" Nora walked to the bedside and asked gently.
Magnus didn't look at her but instead looked at Isaac behind her, his little face very sullen.
