Chapter 286 Isaac and Mortimer Meet at Nora's House

Mortimer smiled and said, "You don't have to be so polite with me. If I have time in the future, I'll come pick them up again. Magnus and Soren want to see me, don't they?"

Soren nodded.

Magnus said, "Mommy, can uncle Mortimer come to our house tonight? I want to sleep with him."

Nora's face darkened a bit and she immediately refused, "No, Mortimer is still an outsider. He can't always be with you. You need to learn to be independent."

Magnus said, "Mortimer is not an outsider. He used to stay with us all the time and lived with us. If he's considered an outsider, then what are you, Mommy?"

Nora felt a pang in her heart, and a strong sense of guilt spread within her. She indeed wasn't a qualified mother.

Compared to Mortimer, she seemed more like an outsider.

She had conflicts with Mortimer and didn't want him to get too close to them.

But what do the kids know?

They only knew that Mortimer was the one who stayed by their side, watched them grow up, and cared for them more than their biological mother.

Magnus looked downcast and said in a muffled voice, "If Mommy doesn't let uncle Mortimer come home with us, then I'll go to his house. I don't want to be separated from him."

Mortimer said softly, "Magnus, don't throw a tantrum with your mommy. You need to listen to her."

Magnus mumbled, "She hasn't spent as much time with us as you have. Why should we listen to her?"

Although he spoke softly, Nora heard it clearly. She felt even more guilty.

Mortimer apologized, "Nora, I'm sorry. It's my fault for not teaching Magnus well, making him resent you as his mother."

Nora shook her head. "It's not your fault. It's my fault. I neglected them."She had chosen Isaac back then and left Magnus and Soren behind. That was her mistake. Now the kids had issues with her, and it was her retribution. She had to endure it.

Nora took a deep breath and looked up at Mortimer. "Then I'll trouble you to come to my house again tonight."

Mortimer chuckled, "It's no trouble. I'm used to watching them. If you don't let me come, I won't be used to not seeing them. I should be thanking you for still letting me accompany them."

Nora didn't know how to respond.

"Yay, we can stay with uncle Mortimer again!" Soren clapped his hands happily.

Magnus moved his lips and said softly, "Thank you, Mommy, I'm not blaming you. I just want to be with uncle Mortimer."

Nora smiled lightly. "Mommy knows. I won't overthink it."

She sat down next to Mortimer and ate a little something. After finishing, they went home together.

At home, Mortimer played with them. He was obviously better at taking care of the kids than she was.

Magnus and Soren were very close to him and had a lot of fun.

When she played with the kids, she didn't even know how to play with the toys and needed the kids to teach her. The kids also had to take care of her emotions.

But it was different when they were with Mortimer. They had a more natural parent-child atmosphere.

Nora knew it was because they had lived together for three years. Mortimer treated them as his own children and raised them personally for three years, which led to this result.

But seeing them so happy together, she felt a pang of discomfort.

Then she quickly shook her head to get rid of the negative emotions.

Effort and reward are proportional.

She hadn't put in as much effort before, so it was normal for the kids not to be as close to her. She would slowly make up for the past neglect.

That night, Magnus went to sleep with Mortimer again.

For the next two days, he kept insisting that Mortimer stay at their house and sleep with him at night.

Soren also clamored for Mortimer.

Nora had no choice but to meet their demands.

On the third evening.

When Nora went to pick up the kids, Mortimer also arrived at the school at the same time, picked up the kids with her, and drove them home.

Magnus still insisted that Mortimer stay, forcibly holding his hand and pulling him upstairs.

However, when they walked into the house, Nora saw someone in the living room. "Isaac, why are you out of the hospital? Didn't Rhys say you should stay a couple more days?" She frowned, her eyes filled with both concern and displeasure.

Isaac not only had glass cuts on his body, but there was also a deep wound near his heart that was bandaged, which was the most serious. Although it had initially healed in three days, any slight carelessness could cause it to reopen.

The safest way was to stay in the hospital for a couple more days to let the wound heal more thoroughly.

Isaac didn't answer Nora's question. He didn't even look at her.

His gaze went over Nora's head and landed on Mortimer, who was standing behind her with a gentle demeanor but was actually cunning.

Nora had brought Mortimer back! And the kids were so close to Mortimer!

Right.

He almost forgot that Magnus and Soren were Nora and Mortimer's children.

It made sense for them to be close to their biological father.

But an inexplicable anger rose within him.

"Isaac, we meet again." Mortimer met his gaze, his eyes clear and gentle, with a friendly smile on his face.

Isaac's face darkened further, and he clenched his fists tightly.

Mortimer observed him for a moment and asked with concern, "Why do you have so many scars on your face? Did something happen to you?"

Isaac stared at him with a dark look for a second, not answering his question, and instead turned his gaze to Nora. "What did you just call me?" he asked.

"Isaac," Nora answered matter-of-factly.

But as soon as she said it, she remembered the bet she had lost to him.

Isaac said with a half-smile, "It seems you remember. Then call me properly."

Nora bit her lip lightly, unable to say it. She could barely say it in private. But now, with Mortimer here, she didn't know how to start.

During this time, to avoid calling Isaac 'honey', she had tried to avoid using any form of address when talking to him.

Unexpectedly, she slipped up today.

Isaac saw her hesitation but didn't intend to let her off.

Nora gritted her teeth and called out, "Honey, is that enough?" She glared at Isaac angrily.

Isaac smiled with satisfaction and gave Mortimer a provocative glance.
