Chapter 280 Did She Really Misunderstand?
Magnus lowered his eyes, not looking at Nora or Soren. "I thought Mommy didn't want us anymore and was angry..."
That made sense.
When he got angry, he liked to sulk alone and ignore people.
It took a long time to coax him out of it.
But sometimes, even after being coaxed, he would stay angry for a long time before truly letting it go.
Nora hugged him with a guilty expression. "I'm sorry, Mommy was wrong. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"
Magnus stayed silent.
Even Soren couldn't stand it anymore and said, "Magnus, I don't blame you anymore. And you shouldn't be mad at Mommy either. Mommy is back now, isn't she?"
Magnus suddenly looked up and met Nora's eyes, saying softly, "Mommy, I miss Uncle Mortimer."
Nora's face instantly darkened, and her heart sank.
After Magnus and Soren had been sold, she didn't want them to see Mortimer again.
She was afraid that if she saw Mortimer, she would probably slap him.
After all, her two children had suffered so much because of him.
Even though Mortimer had done her a favor, it couldn't erase the hatred in her heart.
But she didn't want to pass that hatred on to the kids.
After a moment of silence, she said, "Mortimer is abroad now and I'm afraid he is not available."
Magnus said, "We can call him."
Nora brushed it off. "He's busy with something important. We can't disturb him. Alright, let me take you out for breakfast first. After breakfast, I'll take you to preschool."
Before Magnus could say anything else, she changed the subject.
Nora took them out.
After having breakfast, she took Magnus and Soren to preschool.
Then she went back home, washed her hair, took a shower, and lay down to rest.
She had spent the whole night outside the operating room and was very tired at this moment.
She thought she would fall asleep as soon as she lay down.
But after lying down, her mind was exhausted, but she just couldn't sleep.
Images of Isaac lying in the ICU kept flashing in her mind.
She tossed and turned for four or five hours before finally falling into a hazy sleep.
When she woke up, it was already time to pick up Magnus and Soren.
Then she hurriedly went to pick up them.
On the way back, she stopped by the supermarket to buy some groceries.
Back home, she cooked for the kids.
At ten o'clock in the evening, after putting Magnus and Soren to bed, she planned to go to the hospital to see Isaac.
She tiptoed out of the room.
Just as she was changing her shoes at the entrance, ready to go out, a low voice suddenly came from behind.
"Mommy, where are you going? Are you going to leave us again?"
Nora was startled. She turned around and saw Magnus standing behind her, looking at her with a gloomy expression.
Nora quickly explained, "Oh honey, why are you up? Don't worry. I'm not leaving you. I just have something to do and will be back soon."
Magnus just looked at her silently, his eyes growing darker.
Nora felt a pang in her heart.
She could only put her shoes back and turn to hug Magnus. "Trust me. I will go out for a few hours and come back before dawn. I thought you were all asleep, so I didn't say goodbye."
Magnus reached out and grabbed her clothes, whispering, "Mommy, don't go."
Nora felt a sourness in her heart and gently patted his back. "All right, I won't go. I'll take you back to bed."
She carried Magnus back to the room.
Magnus seemed very afraid that she would leave secretly again and kept holding onto one of her fingers.
With so many bodyguards watching over him, Issac should be fine.
And Nora decided to go see him after sending the kids to school tomorrow.
Nora thought Magnus had fallen asleep.
But after about half an hour, Magnus's low voice suddenly came. "Mommy..."
Nora paused and quickly whispered, "I'm here. Why aren't you asleep yet?"
The kids usually slept well and would fall asleep within five minutes.
But tonight, Magnus was still awake after so long.
Was it because she hadn't come back all night, causing him psychological trauma and insomnia?
Thinking this, she felt even more guilty.
Magnus said, "It wasn't uncle Mortimer who sold Soren and me to the countryside."
Nora was stunned that Magnus brought this up.
She had never mentioned in front of the kids that she suspected Mortimer of selling them to the countryside.
"Why did you tell me this? I never said it was him who sold you," She asked.
Magnus said softly, "But Mommy, when you heard me mention uncle Mortimer today, you were very distant. You must think he did something bad."
Nora pressed her lips together. She hadn't expected Magnus to be so observant.
Magnus continued, "Soren and I were taken away by Alaric. I even overheard him saying he wanted to stand up for uncle Mortimer and couldn't let him know."
Nora asked in surprise, "Is that true? Did you really hear Alaric say that?"
Magnus was a bit angry. "I heard it with my own ears. If you don't believe me, forget it."
Nora quickly said, "Of course, I believe you."
Magnus was only three years old, how could he lie?
She didn't doubt Magnus's words at all.
So, had she really misunderstood Mortimer?
Were Magnus and Soren not sold to the countryside on his orders?
"Mommy, Soren and I like uncle Mortimer because he's good to us. He wouldn't harm us." In the dark, Magnus's voice was very earnest.
Nora said softly, "I know, Mortimer is a good person. He has helped us a lot."
Magnus's voice carried a hint of hope. "Then can we see uncle Mortimer? We haven't seen him for a long time. We've never been apart from him for this long. We miss him a lot."
"Mommy, can you ask him to come back and live with us like before?"
