Chapter 303 Isaac Confesses His Feelings That He Has Always Loved Her
Nora's pupils contracted as she looked at Isaac in disbelief.
The room was already dark, with only a faint light coming through the window.
She couldn't see Isaac's eyes clearly, but she could sense that he was looking at her. Her heartbeat accelerated uncontrollably, as a sense of panic grew wildly in her heart.
She pondered, 'How could Isaac know that Soren was her biological child? Did he guess it, or was he testing her? Would he fight for custody of the child in the future? And since he knew the children's identity, why did he still have someone retaliate against Magnus? Did he know their identities before or after retaliating against Magnus?...'
Nora's mind was in turmoil, and she was so nervous that she didn't know what to do. Then she clenched her fists tightly, took a deep breath, and tried to stay calm. "What the hell are you talking about? Magnus and Soren are my friend's children. Don't make things up!"
Isaac sneered, "You don't need to deny it. I knew long before you attempted suicide and lost your memory. If you weren't their biological mother, why would they call you so familiarly? Why are you so skilled at taking care of them?"
Nora stubbornly said, "That's just your speculation!"
Isaac said, "Then how about I send someone to check their background?"
Nora instantly didn't dare to speak. Although she had hidden it well, with Isaac's power, if he really checked it, he would definitely find out.
Meanwhile, a sense of bitterness and a dense pain surged in her heart.
She thought, 'Isaac had known the kids' identities before she attempted suicide, yet he didn't confess to her or acknowledge them. Instead, he continued to hurt and retaliate against her. He really did hate her enough. He had once said that even if she had his children, he wouldn't like them. He would only retaliate against them, making them atone for her sins. And it turned out to be true. Now, he had already retaliated against Magnus. And Soren... Would he not spare Soren in the future?'
The suffocating pain spread in her heart, and she felt she could hardly breathe.
She continued thinking, 'Now that he forcibly kept her by his side and treated her well, was it all for future retaliation? How ridiculous it was. She had indeed fallen for him again, often blushing and her heart racing because of his teasing. Now she found herself was really pathetic.'
Isaac's deep voice, tinged with self-mockery, continued, "Nora, sometimes I really don't understand you. You left me so decisively back then, went abroad, and had children with Mortimer. Why did you come back to marry me and try to win me back? What were you thinking?"
Nora's breath hitched, and her mind went blank. It took her several seconds to come back to her senses. She should be grateful that the lights were off now, so Isaac couldn't see her expression. Otherwise, he might become suspicious.
"What did you say? You think Magnus and Soren are my children with Mortimer?" Nora tried to stay calm, but her voice trembled uncontrollably. She was too shocked by Isaac's thought.
Isaac said mockingly, "Are you still trying to deny it? It is useless to do it. On the day you attempted suicide, I had bought flowers and prepared a ring to confess to you that I wanted to start over with you. But that morning, when I arrived at the store, I saw you and Mortimer with the children. And the children called you 'mommy', and Mortimer was teasing them, asking them to call him 'daddy'," At this point, his voice carried a hint of bitterness and sorrow. "Back then, you told me they were your friend's children. I believed you completely and treated them well to please you. But I never expected that they were actually your children with Mortimer. Do you know how much it hurt me?"
Even at this moment, when he brought up the past, Nora could still hear the pain in his voice.
Nora's emotions were like a roller coaster. She carefully recalled that morning when Mortimer came to see her and indeed said some inappropriate things. And she had felt uncomfortable at the time. She never expected that Isaac had overheard and misunderstood the children's identity..
"So, you didn't approach me back then to retaliate against me?" She asked hoarsely.
Isaac said, "Of course not. If I wanted to retaliate against you, I had plenty of ways to make you suffer. Why would I humble myself to please you? You've known me for so long. Do you think I'm that kind of person?"
Nora was momentarily speechless. From what she knew of Isaac, he indeed didn't seem like someone who would do that. That was also why she had believed him back then. She never expected it was because he misunderstood her and Mortimer. And she felt conflicted. But she still couldn't let Isaac know that Magnus and Soren were his children.
She asked with a complicated expression, "Since you think they are my children with Mortimer, why do you still keep me by your side? Why let them call you father?"
Isaac gritted his teeth and said, "Nora, don't play dumb with me!"
Nora looked confused. "I really don't know."
Isaac said, "Fine, I'll tell you directly! Because I love you. Compared to accepting your children with Mortimer, I can't accept you leaving me! If I didn't let you live with them and insisted on separating you, you definitely wouldn't agree and would hate me for it. To please you and keep you by my side, I accepted them! Is there anything else you don't understand that needs explaining?"
Nora's heartbeat became even more erratic.
She pondered, 'He was willing to accept her children with someone else just to please her? Even though the 'someone else' he mentioned was actually himself. Yet he still accepted them and treated them so well, letting them call him father, taking them out to play, cooking for them, donating to the school to ensure their smooth enrollment... Everything he did was to please her! After hearing what he said, it was really hard for her to remain indifferent...'
