Chapter 184 Isaac Needs Her Now
Nora's eyes were cold as she instinctively stepped back, putting some distance between them.
Mortimer's gaze hardened, but a flicker of hurt crossed his eyes.
"Nora, don't you trust me?" he asked with a bitter smile.
Nora replied icily, "I know Edmund would never do something like this.
"Even if he wanted to find a woman, he wouldn't go to Kalista.
"No matter how many videos you show, I believe Edmund is innocent!"
Though she didn't answer directly, her stance was clear: she trusted Edmund, not Mortimer.
Nora took a deep breath and pointed to the room in the video. "The decor matches the guest rooms in your Radcliffe family mansion. This was filmed there, right?"
Mortimer's eyes narrowed. He hadn't expected her to notice that. She'd only been to the mansion a few times and never stayed long, yet she recognized it.
"Even if Grandpa acted recklessly, he wouldn't do this in your mansion!
"And why was Kalista at your mansion?
"Mortimer, do you still dare to say you didn't set this up?
"Do you still dare to say Edmund wasn't framed by you?!"
Mortimer was speechless under Nora's relentless questioning.
Nora wasn't dumb; she saw through the holes in his story. No matter what he said, she wouldn't believe him and would only be more disappointed.
"Nora, I'm sorry, I..."
"Don't apologize to me; you didn't wrong me!" Nora cut him off coldly. "If you can't clean up this mess, I won't speak to you again.
"Thanks for taking care of Magnus and Soren. I'll take them away later, so you won't be troubled anymore.
"I'll compensate you for your help."
With that, she opened the door and walked out of the study.
Mortimer watched her leave and suddenly said, "I did this to help you!"
Nora stopped and replied, even colder, "You only found out yesterday that I was going to stop Isaac and Kalista's engagement. You didn't have enough time to bring both Edmund and Kalista to your house and film that video.
"That video was clearly filmed long ago!"
Mortimer fell silent.
Nora said nothing more and went to the garden to get the children.
Mortimer silently followed her.
"Children need care. You're juggling work and looking after them; how can you manage it all? Leave them here with me. I promise, no matter what, I'll never hurt you or them."
Nora refused, "No need."
Mortimer pressed his lips together. "Then let me at least have someone send you back."
Nora denied again, "No need."
Her attitude was colder than towards a stranger.
Mortimer's expression darkened, full of hurt.
"Mommy, why are we moving? I want to stay with Uncle Mortimer."
Soren looked back at Mortimer reluctantly.
She had always been fond of Mortimer, who had been so kind and gentle with her and her brother. In fact, she had even imagined Mortimer as their dad.
She didn't want to leave him at all.
Nora said calmly, "If you want to stay, you can. I won't force you, but I won't come back here."
Soren immediately grabbed her hand and said sweetly, "I don't want to be separated from you. Wherever you go, Mommy, I'll go!"
Though she liked Mortimer, Soren loved Nora more.
Nora hailed a cab and left with Magnus and Soren.
Mortimer stood by the roadside, watching the car until it disappeared.
"Mr. Radcliffe," Alaric said, walking up behind him. "Ms. Foster is so ungrateful. You've helped her so much, and she treats you like this?
"From what I see, you've been too good to her. She's spoiled and doesn't respect you. You should teach her a lesson!"
Mortimer snapped out of his thoughts, turned to Alaric, and said coldly, "You're quite the expert on relationships, aren't you?"
Alaric scratched his head and replied sheepishly, "I've never been in a relationship."
Mortimer said, "Then keep your opinions to yourself."
Alaric muttered, "I'm just saying, you've been too good to her. You've pampered her so much that she doesn't respect you. That's why she's treating you this way!
"Look at how Isaac treats her, yet she still thinks about him.
"Maybe you should learn from Isaac?"
Mortimer's eyes grew colder. "Shut up. If I hear you say that again, you can just get out of here!"
Alaric shrank back in fear.
Mortimer continued, "And don't trouble Nora behind my back. If I find out, I won't be lenient with you."
Alaric replied sullenly, "Yes, without your orders, I won't act on my own."
Mortimer withdrew his gaze and walked back to the villa.
Nora took the kids home.
To keep Steve from finding out about the children, the first thing she did was change the locks.
Then, she bought clothes and daily necessities for the kids online.
She also contacted a reliable housekeeping company to arrange for two nannies to help take care of the children.
While waiting, Nora saw a news report stating that Edmund had been hospitalized.
Her heart sank.
She immediately prepared to call Isaac.
But as soon as she dialed the number, she couldn't press the call button.
She didn't know how to face Isaac.
After hesitating for a moment, she called Wesley.
"Wesley, I saw the news that Edmund is in the hospital. Is that true?" she asked as soon as the call connected.
Wesley said, "Yes, it's true. Edmund had a sudden heart attack and a stroke last night. He was in the hospital all night fighting for his life. He's stable now, but he hasn't regained consciousness.
"Edmund... he can't even speak now."
Wesley's voice choked up at the end.
He took a deep breath, composed himself, and pleaded, "Isaac is under a lot of pressure right now.
"With both Edmund and Katie falling ill, Isaac's elders came this morning to demand that Isaac relinquish control of the Porter Family.
"If possible, I hope you can come and comfort Isaac. He really needs you right now."
