Chapter 236 Contact Mortimer and Question Him About the Children's Whereabouts

Isaac finally caught up to her, his face twisted with anger as he chased off those attackers.

Those guys didn't seem too keen on messing with him and took off pretty quick.

Isaac dropped to his knees, his voice shaking. "Nora, hang in there. I'm getting you to the hospital. You'll be fine."

Nora's eyes flashed with a hint of sarcasm.

What an act.

Was he trying to lift her up just to drop her back down?

She blacked out.

When she came to, she was in a hospital room. Everything hurt, especially her head.

"You're awake? How do you feel? Just stay put, I'll get the doctor!" A familiar voice came from beside the bed.

Nora turned her head with effort, catching a glimpse of him leaving.

It was Isaac.

She watched him go, her gaze icy.

Soon, Isaac dragged the doctor in.

The doctor checked her over nervously and said, "Mrs. Porter is stable. She just needs rest."

Isaac looked relieved and showed the doctor out.

Then he sat by the bed, reaching for her hand.

Nora watched him silently.

His eyes were a bit red.

She couldn't tell if he'd been crying or if the bright lights were just bothering him. Probably the latter. Isaac would never cry for her.

Everything he did was an act, just to make her fall for him and then hurt her again.

She'd already paid him back with her life. She owed him nothing now.

"Nora, why are you looking at me like that? Did you remember something?" Isaac noticed her expression and got nervous.

Nora spoke weakly, "I didn't expect you to risk your life for me. Do you love me that much?"

Isaac looked serious and nodded. "Yes, I love you. I can't stand the thought of losing you again. I'd trade my life for yours in a heartbeat."

But Nora sneered inside.

That day, Isaac had been just as emotional. She believed him, thought he loved her enough to forgive everything and start fresh. She even considered telling him the truth about the kids. But just when she was moved by the reconciliation, Isaac shattered her illusions with the cruelest words, throwing her into hell.

Once was enough. She wouldn't fall for it again.

Nora lowered her eyelids and said softly, "Unfortunately, I don't remember anything now. I can't recall our past or understand your feelings for me. But you saved me, and I'll remember that."

Isaac said, "It's cool if you can't remember. We can start fresh. You're my wife. It's only right I save you. You don't owe me anything."

Nora nodded slightly. "I'm a bit tired. I want to rest."

Isaac adjusted the blanket over her and said softly, "Go to sleep. I'll stay here with you."

Nora's eyes darkened. She didn't want him around right now. But how could she get him to leave?

As she was thinking, Isaac's phone rang. He looked a bit annoyed.

Who had such perfect timing to interrupt him and Nora?

He held her hand with one hand and pulled out his phone with the other. Seeing the caller ID, his annoyance eased a bit.

He answered the call.

Whatever was said on the phone made his face turn serious instantly. "Okay, I'll come over now. We'll talk in person."

Isaac hung up and looked at Nora apologetically. "You rest well. I have something to handle. I'll be back as soon as I'm done."

Nora nodded.

Isaac immediately walked out of the room with long strides.

At the door, he told the bodyguards to keep a close watch and not let anyone in.

After hearing Isaac's footsteps fade away, Nora struggled to sit up in bed. She must have broken a rib, as she felt sharp pain in her chest when she moved. Her left arm was in a cast, and she didn't know how badly it was injured.

Nora ignored her injuries. She searched around the bedside, finding her phone under the pillow. Then she turned it on and quickly dialed a number.

After a long time, the call connected.

Mortimer's gentle voice came through the phone. "Nora."

"Where did you send Magnus and Soren?" Nora interrupted Mortimer, urgently asking. She only wanted to know where her kids were.

The thought of Magnus and Soren's cries over the phone tore at her heart.

"Did you remember everything?" Mortimer's voice trembled slightly, with a hint of panic.

Nora gripped the phone tightly and said sternly, "Yes, I remember. Now tell me, where did you send my Magnus and Soren? Tell me where they are!"

Mortimer was silent, not answering.

Nora could barely control her emotions, her voice breaking. "Mortimer, I'm begging you, tell me where Magnus and Soren are. If you let me find them, I can forgive your deceit."

Mortimer let out a bitter laugh. Even if Nora said she forgave him, she could never truly forgive him in her heart. Even if she didn't know the real reason for her amnesia was that he had hired a hypnotist, she still knew he had deceived her.

He even wanted to marry her while she was amnesiac. Nora would surely think he was despicable.

If Mortimer returned the children to her, without them as a bond, she might never speak to him again.
