Chapter 168 The colder you are to me, the more excited I get

In the bar.

Isaac had just finished his beer when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

He checked the message and his eyes narrowed, anger boiling up.

"Mortimer, you scumbag!" Isaac yelled.

Isaac stood up, ready to confront Mortimer, but stopped after a few steps.

He couldn't go to Mortimer. And he definitely couldn't see Nora right now. Mortimer would release that video if he did.

Isaac slumped back into his seat, defeated.

The next day.

Nora had breakfast with the kids and then headed to the shop.

Sophia had called early, asking for a day off to visit her grandfather in the hospital, leaving Nora to manage the shop.

Nora opened the shop, hung the "Open" sign, and started dusting the paintings.

Suddenly, a tall figure blocked the light.

Nora looked down and saw shiny leather shoes, black suit pants, a narrow waist, and a broad chest.

Her heart skipped a beat. Was it Isaac?

She quickly looked up.

"Steve?" The sparkle in her eyes vanished. "What are you doing here?"

Though he had a similar build to Isaac, it was Steve.

Steve looked at her with a complex expression.

"Why didn't you come home last night?" he asked slowly.

Nora frowned. "You went to my house? Didn't I text you to take the card and leave, and never come to me again?"

Steve replied, "Did you forget the terms I set when we reconnected?"

Nora was momentarily speechless.

Steve continued, "I told you, either the deal continues, or you compensate me ten billion dollars."

Nora's mouth twitched. Ten billion? How could he say it so casually like it was ten bucks? Did she look like she had ten billion?

She felt irritated. The kids needed her, and she didn't have time for Steve's nonsense. But she had promised to continue the deal, and breaking it meant paying ten billion.

Nora didn't know what to do. She glanced at Steve but said nothing, turning back to tidy up the shop.

"Why are you ignoring me?" Steve followed her.

Nora said, "If I don't want to talk to you, I won't. Do I need a reason?"

Steve's tone grew serious. "Are you planning to break the contract? Then be prepared to compensate me!"

Nora turned to him. "Who said I'm breaking the contract?"

Steve frowned. "Then what do you mean?"

Nora smirked. "Isn't it normal for couples to argue and have moods? I'm just reacting normally, not breaking the contract. We're still dating."

Steve looked at her deeply. "I haven't wronged you."

Nora raised an eyebrow. "Who says you have to wrong me for me to have a bad mood? Can't I just be unreasonable?"

Steve was silent.

Nora continued, "If you can't handle it, then leave. If you choose to stay, then you have to endure my bad temper and unreasonable behavior!"

Steve was silent for a moment, then chuckled softly.

Nora frowned. "What are you laughing at?"

Steve said, "I have a quirk. The more temperamental and unreasonable a woman is, the more I like her."

Nora's expression froze.

Steve said, "If you could hit and scold me every day, I'd be even happier. The colder you are, the more excited I get."

Nora's face changed instantly. She didn't expect Steve to be such a pervert!

She glanced at him with a complicated expression but said nothing, continuing to clean up silently.

Steve followed her quietly. At first, Nora tried to ignore him, but his deep gaze made it impossible.

Nora put down the duster and turned to look at Steve, who stopped and looked at her innocently. Seeing his eyes so similar to Isaac's worsened her mood.

Taking a deep breath, Nora said seriously, "Steve, let me make this clear. Don't develop real feelings for me. I will never fall in love with you! Even if we continue this deal, I'll cut ties with you when the three-month period ends."

Steve's reluctance to end the deal early made Nora think he had real feelings for her. She had to make things clear.

Steve looked at her silently, his deep eyes unreadable. "I'm just adhering to the contract. Don't overthink it," he said slowly.

Nora felt frustrated. Since Steve didn't want to leave, there was nothing she could do. They had an agreement, and she couldn't force him to leave without compensating him ten billion.

"Do whatever you want. This is my attitude. If you can handle it, then endure it. If not, then leave," Nora said impatiently.

Steve's eyes flashed as he asked, "It seems like you've lost the desire to be kind to me. Did something happen with your ex that's making you treat me this way?"

Nora glared at him. "If you don’t want to be scolded, then don’t mention him in front of me again!"

Thinking about last night made Nora very agitated, and she became even more impatient with Steve.

Steve said, "I heard he's getting engaged to someone else in a week. Are you upset about that?"

Nora angrily glared at him. "Can't you understand human language? I told you not to mention him in front of me!"

But Steve ignored her words. "Are you so angry about his engagement that you went out to find another man? Is that why you didn’t come home last night?"

Nora's face darkened. "Whether I find another man or not is none of your business!"

Steve lowered his eyes, hiding his emotions, and his mood grew heavier. He was deliberately testing her, but Nora didn’t deny it. So, last night, she really did something beyond a normal friendship with Mortimer?

That bastard Mortimer took advantage of the situation! Why couldn’t Nora see Mortimer’s true nature? Mortimer was deceitful and cunning. Why did Nora still trust him so much? If she continued being with Mortimer, she would eventually be played to death by him!

Steve clenched his fists tightly. Mortimer threatened to keep him away from Nora, but he would never let Nora and Mortimer be together!

Steve composed himself, his expression returning to normal. He suddenly bent down and kissed Nora’s face. "I’m going to work now. I’ll come to see you tonight."

With that, he turned and left.

"You!"

Nora's face changed dramatically with anger. How could Steve kiss her so casually? She was already angry with Isaac, and now she was also displeased with Steve. Now that the deed was done and he was gone, even if she was angry, it didn't matter.

Nora angrily wiped her cheek.
