Chapter 196 In the End, He Still Needs to Help
Nora ran into the stairwell and first looked upstairs.
No luck finding the children.
Then she went downstairs to look for them.
Still no luck.
Nora's heart was in her throat, filled with panic and fear.
Nora wondered, 'Where did Magnus and Soren run off to?'
Wesley said he saw them run into the stairwell, but she had searched the entire building's stairwell and still couldn't find Magnus and Soren.
Nora wondered, 'Where else could they have gone? They're so young; what if they encounter bad guys?'
The more Nora thought about it, the more scared she became. She immediately ran out to the neighborhood to continue searching for them.
Nora guessed, 'Maybe they ran out of the building and into the neighborhood to play?'
However, she had searched the entire neighborhood and still couldn't find any trace of them.
Nora grew increasingly anxious and couldn't help but wonder worriedly, 'Could it be that Magnus and Soren encountered bad people and were kidnapped?'
At this moment, Nora couldn't care less about being discovered. She immediately took out her phone to call the police.
Just as she pulled out her phone, a call came in.
It was Mortimer calling on her phone.
Nora paused for a few seconds and answered.
"Nora, did you leave the house?"Mortimer's gentle voice came through the phone.
Nora said, "I'm at the entrance of the neighborhood, about to go to the police station to report."
Mortimer asked, "Why?"
Nora said anxiously, "Magnus and Soren are missing. I can't find them, so I need to report it to the police for help. Can you call some people to help me look?"
Although she still couldn't fully forgive Mortimer for what he had done, she had to put aside her grievances and ask for his help to find Magnus and Soren.
Mortimer laughed, he comforted her, "So you're looking for Magnus and Soren. You don't need to call the police. Come back now; I have Magnus and Soren at your doorstep."
Nora was shocked. "How did Magnus and Soren end up with you?" she asked.
Mortimer explained, "I bought the apartment above yours and stayed there last night. I was about to leave when I saw Magnus and Soren running upstairs in a panic, with someone chasing them. So I brought them into my apartment to hide."
Nora was stunned.
'So it turns out Mortimer hid Magnus and Soren, no wonder Wesley couldn't find them,' Nora thought, deeply relieved.
"Mommy, come back quickly!"Soren's sweet voice came through the phone.
Nora snapped back to reality, exclaiming with relief, "Thank god, I'm coming back right now!"
Nora took the elevator back upstairs. As soon as she stepped out, she saw Mortimer, Magnus, and Soren standing at the door.
"Magnus, Soren,"Nora's nose tingled, and she quickly walked up and knelt down to hug them.
"Scared the heck out of me. I thought you were taken by bad people!" Nora remarked, visibly still shaken.
Magnus, being all grown-up, patted her back to comfort her, "Mommy, don't be afraid. We're smart; bad people can't take us!"
Soren also said, "Yeah, Magnus is right. Mommy, don't be scared!"
Nora smiled through her tears.
She let go of Magnus and Soren, unlocked the door, and invited Mortimer inside.
The two little ones, having been in hiding all morning, were finally free and immediately went to play with their toys once they got back inside.
Nora poured Mortimer a glass of water.
"Thank you for hiding Magnus and Soren. Otherwise, they would have been found by Isaac todaPNora sincerely thanked him.
Mortimer smiled as he reassured her, "It was nothing. You don't need to be so polite with me.
"Besides, I've spent more time living with Magnus and Soren than you have. I care about them just as much as you do. If Isaac ever finds them, he'll definitely take them back to the Porter Family, and then it will be hard for me to see them again.
"So, hiding them was also for my own sake. You don't need to thank me; I did it for myself."
Nora suddenly felt a bit guilty towards both Mortimer and the kids.
Mortimer, who was unrelated to them, had been living with and taking care of the Magnus and Soren for the past three years.
While she, their biological mother, seemed more like a stranger.
"Did you also handle the neighborhood surveillance?" Nora asked.
Mortimer nodded in affirmation, he replied, "Yes, Wesley must have seen Magnus; otherwise, he wouldn't have chased them upstairs. I was worried he might check the surveillance, so I contacted someone to modify the footage.
"If we deleted it directly, they might suspect someone did it with the intent to cover up the truth. So I kept the footage but had a professional edit Magnus and Soren out, tricking Wesley into thinking he was seeing things."
Mortimer paused and asked, "Did Wesley, after checking the surveillance, think he was seeing things?"
Nora shook her head dismissively and said, half-laughing, "He still doesn't think he was seeing things; he thinks he saw a ghost."
Mortimer's mouth twitched, dumbfounded.
Nora sighed helplessly and said, "Even Isaac thinks my place is haunted and is planning to bring a priest to pray and bless this place."
Mortimer asked, "Isn't Isaac an atheist? He never believes in ghosts and gods. Why would he suddenly think that way?"
Nora said with a complicated expression, "He got drunk last night and came over. In the middle of the night, he went to sleep with Magnus and Soren. Although I lied and said he might have been dreaming, after Wesley's incident, he also thinks it's haunted."
Mortimer said, "Then I'll take Magnus and Soren away later to prevent him from finding them when he brings the priest."
Nora nodded in agreement. She had no choice but to accept Mortimer's suggestion.
Nora informed him calmly, "Then I'll trouble you one more time. The nanny I hired should be coming today. Once I interview her, Magnus and Soren will have someone to take care of them."
Mortimer's eyes darkened with regret. He asked cautiously, "Are you still mad at me?"
Nora shook her head in refusal. She answered kindly, "I have no right to be mad at you. You've always been kind to me."
Mortimer gave a bitter smile and thought, 'No right, but not no anger. It seems Nora was indeed angry.'
Mortimer apologized, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have hurt Edmund. I've already had someone clarify things. The online rumors have turned around, and no one suspects Edmund anymore."
"How did you clear things up?" Nora asked, frowning.
Mortimer said, "I had someone shoot another video, but the face wasn't Edmund's.
"Last night, I released the second video without blurring the face, and no one is talking about Edmund anymore."
Nora's face showed little expression after hearing the explanation.
Even if the rumors were cleared, they all knew the truth. The harm done to Edmund, Katie, and Isaac couldn't be erased.
However, this was the best outcome.
At least Edmund's reputation was saved, and the Porter Family's honor was preserved.
The elders of the Porter Family and those eyeing the heir position had no reason to force Edmund and Isaac to step down.
Nora collected her thoughts and asked, "How did you convince Kalista to shoot another video?"
