Chapter 245 How Could She Bear to Leave
Nora and Edmund hugged and cried for a bit before Edmund finally let her go.
Edmund looked at her with concern. "Isaac said you lost your memory. Is that true?"
Nora nodded. "Yeah, I don't remember anything from before."
Edmund's face fell a little. "So, you don't remember me either?"
Nora shook her head. "No, but I feel really close to you. I'm happy to see you."
Edmund's face lit up with a smile. "Well, if you've forgotten the past, then so be it. The important thing is you're back safe and sound!"
Nora nodded, holding his hand. "You need to take care of yourself too."
Edmund grinned. "As long as you and Isaac are safe and visit me often, I'll be just fine!"
Nora was at a loss for words. But Edmund had a point. Emotions did affect the body. When in good emotions, one's body always got better.
Edmund asked, a bit sadly, "Nora, don't you want to come see me?"
Nora quickly shook her head. "No, I'll come see you often from now on!"
Edmund added, "With Isaac."
Nora felt a lump in her throat but nodded reluctantly. "Okay."
Edmund's eyes crinkled with a smile, and he patted her head. "Nora is so considerate."
Nora smiled gently.
Edmund said, "Stay and have a meal with me before you go. I haven't had an appetite for a while, but seeing you two has suddenly made me hungry."
The butler, Kieran, standing by, said with tears of joy, "Mr. Porter hasn't asked for food in a long time. For over a month, he couldn't eat anything, and we had to persuade him to take a few bites."
Nora could see it. Since the last time she saw Edmund, he had lost a lot of weight. Losing so much weight in such a short time would greatly affect an adult's body, let alone an elderly person with lower resistance.
She urged Edmund, "You can't do this anymore. You need to eat well."
Edmund nodded with a smile. "Alright, if Nora wants me to eat, I will eat."
Nora felt both amused and heartbroken. Seeing Edmund like this, she couldn't bear to leave.
The old house had several chefs. They cooked quickly.
In less than an hour, a table full of delicious dishes was ready.
Nora and Isaac helped Edmund to the dining room.
Nora was pulled to sit next to Edmund.
Edmund was in a good mood, and his appetite improved.
Isaac felt relieved seeing Edmund's improved state.
After the meal, Nora accompanied Edmund for a walk and chat.
It wasn't until Edmund got tired and was helped to his room for a nap by Kieran that she and Isaac left.
In the car, Isaac was about to ask Nora why she got so emotional seeing Edmund if she had lost her memory. But before he could ask, he saw Nora's expression turn cold again.
He was momentarily stunned, and Nora spoke first, "I followed your instructions and played along to make your grandpa happy. I hope you won't go back on your word."
So she hadn't remembered, she was just acting.
Isaac felt relieved. The question he wanted to ask no longer seemed necessary. "Don't worry, I won't go back on my word. I'll take you there now."
The car moved forward.
Isaac was actually worried that if Nora saw too many things from her past, she might regain her memory. He was especially nervous about passing the spot where she had tried to end her life. So, he drove really slowly.
It took over an hour to get to the neighborhood where Nora used to live.
After parking, Isaac led Nora to her old apartment building.
As they passed the ground floor, Isaac's heart was pounding, watching Nora's face closely.
But she stayed calm. Even when they walked by the spot where she had collapsed, she didn't react.
They took the elevator up and finally reached her apartment door.
Isaac said, "You changed the password, so I can't open it."
Nora pretended to check and said, "Looks like there's a fingerprint unlock too. Let me try." She pressed her right thumb on the sensor.
The lock clicked open. The door swung open smoothly.
Nora walked in first, with Isaac right behind her.
Once inside, Nora wandered around, checking out the place.
Seeing the children's toys still there, she felt a pang of pain and worry about the kids.
Suppressing her emotions, she pointed at the toys and asked, "Why are there kids' toys here? Did we have children before?"
Isaac's eyes darkened, a shadow of emotion crossing his face. Seeing those toys reminded him of the two kids.
They were Nora and Mortimer's kids.
She had lied, saying they were her client's kids!
And he, like an idiot, believed her and even helped take care of them for a long time. She had played him for a fool. Yet, here he was, trying to win her back because he couldn't let her go.
Isaac pushed down his emotions and answered, "Before you lost your memory, you were helping a friend take care of their kids. These toys are what you bought for them. As for us... We had kids before, but we couldn't keep them. They never made it into this world."
Nora pursed her lips and looked away. She continued to walk around the apartment for a while, then said to Isaac, "I feel a sense of familiarity here. It's more comfortable than staying in your villa. I want to live here from now on."
Isaac frowned. He didn't want Nora to stay here.
Nora said, "Mr. Porter, I'm not trying to escape. I just want to live in a place I like. If we were really in love before, I don't think you would restrict my freedom. Unless, my guess was right."
Isaac clenched his fists tightly, then let them go. "Alright, if you want to stay here, then I'll stay with you."
Nora frowned.
Isaac said, "We're a married couple. I won't live separately from you. If you don't agree to let me stay, I'll have to take you back."
Nora had no choice but to agree to let him stay.
At that moment, Isaac's phone rang.
It was Rhys calling.
He answered the call.
Nora took the chance to walk into the room, pretending to get familiar with the place. But while Isaac wasn't paying attention, she quietly took out a bottle of painkillers from the cabinet and took one. Her stomach had been hurting a bit, and after eating at the old house, the pain had gotten worse. She needed the medicine to ease it.
