Chapter 562 He Really Knows How to Scheme

Rhys nodded and took Isaac for a check-up.

However, Rhys took X-rays of Isaac's entire body, not missing any part of his body, but still found no abnormalities.

He sighed and said, "I still haven't found any abnormalities."

Nora slumped into a chair in despair, "Do we just have to watch him die?"

Rhys was also very sad. Isaac was his friend and his major benefactor; he didn't want to see Isaac die either.

At that moment, he still felt dazed. Isaac looked so healthy and normal; could he really only live for another three months?Isaac helped Nora up and gently comforted her, "Don't be sad, maybe this is fate. God wants me to accompany Barrett, which isn't a bad thing."

"Let's not waste time on this. Let's go back and prepare again. Once the kids are more settled, we'll take them out for some fun."

"There's not much time left, and we can't waste a single minute."

Nora and Isaac left Rhys's office and prepared to go home.

As they were leaving the hospital, they passed by an emergency room and heard a sorrowful cry from a distance.

Looking up, she saw members of the Radcliffe family, including Mortimer's grandfather, Elder.

Nora suddenly stopped and frowned.

The surgery room indicated that the operation was over, and the Radcliffe family was crying at the door. What was going on?

Did Mortimer not make it?

Nora didn't continue forward but pulled Isaac back.

She didn't want to face the Radcliffe family.

She didn't know how to face the Radcliffe family now.

Nora and Isaac returned to Rhys's office.

Rhys had just taken off his white coat and packed his things, ready to leave the hospital for the lab, but he didn't expect the two to return so soon.

Rhys asked, "Why are you back? Is there something else?"

Nora said in a deep voice, "Can you check if Mortimer was being resuscitated in this hospital and what the result was?"

Rhys didn't ask much and immediately made a call to inquire.

After a while, he hung up the phone, looking somewhat dazed.

"Mortimer is dead. The doctor said he had over a dozen stab wounds, with one fatal injury to his heart."

"How could he have been stabbed so many times? What happened?"

Rhys found it hard to accept.

Although in recent years, due to Isaac, he hadn't had much contact with Mortimer, he still remembered the happy days they spent with together.

A once good friend suddenly died; it felt like a dream.

Even as a doctor who was accustomed to life and death, he found it hard to accept.

Nora lowered her eyes, clenched her fists tightly, and her eyes were filled with conflict.

She hated Mortimer, but she had to admit a fact: if it weren't for Mortimer's rescue, she and her three children might have been killed by Daxton.

Mortimer was seriously injured to save them.

And after he saved them, she ignored his injuries and even prevented her family doctor from treating him.

Nora's heart was suddenly overwhelmed by deep conflict.

She felt Mortimer had ruined her two sons' lives and deserved to die.

On the other hand, she felt Mortimer died saving them, and she couldn't help but feel guilty.

Although she had vowed to avenge her children after learning about Mortimer's schemes against them, he died to save them.

If he hadn't died saving them, she wouldn't have felt any sympathy or conflict, just thinking he deserved it, but now, she couldn't help but fall into self-conflict.

Isaac saw the conflict in Nora's heart.

He hugged Nora and said in a deep voice, "Mortimer stole Barrett and kept telling him we didn't love him, causing Barrett to be separated from us and misunderstand us. He also poisoned Magnus, trying to kill him, and all his schemes against us were heinous."

"Now he died saving the children; he only repaid a part of what he owed our children. You don't need to feel guilty or think you owe him anything."

Nora choked, saying, "I understand the reasoning, but it's hard to accept. If I had killed him, I wouldn't be so conflicted, but he died saving me and the children."

Isaac replied, "It's okay. People have emotions. It's normal to feel this way. Just try to let it go and not dwell on it too much."

Nora nodded lightly, but her heart still felt heavy.

Rhys scratched his head, looking puzzled, "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

Isaac briefly explained the three children and Mortimer's evil deeds to Rhys.

Rhys was very shocked after hearing it.

He used to think Isaac and Nora each had illegitimate children, and it was a mutual fault. However, he never expected that they had no illegitimate children at all; instead, they were both the parents of three children.

And Mortimer, that bastard, had been scheming against Nora and Isaac for three years? He even targeted innocent children?

Rhys was so angry he couldn't help but curse, "Mortimer is really a bastard. You were his best friend, and he did such despicable things?"

"Luckily, Magnus survived. Otherwise, even if Mortimer were cut into pieces, it wouldn't be enough to atone for his sins!"

After cursing a few times, Rhys suddenly thought of something and stopped abruptly.

His voice trembled as he said, "You said Barrett was taken by Mortimer since childhood and raised by him?"

"If that's the case, Barrett's genetic disease might not be accidental but man-made."

Nora and Isaac both stiffened and turned to look at Rhys suddenly.

Rhys explained, "A person's genes can be altered by external stimuli."

"For example, leukemia can occur in individuals who have lived in high formaldehyde environments for a long term, especially if their immune system is weak, leading to genetic mutations that trigger leukemia."

"If what you said is true, and Amara's child was also part of Mortimer's scheme, then Barrett's disease is likely his doing."

"Otherwise, Amara's child's timing is too coincidental, matching Barrett's deadline too closely. This can't be just a coincidence."

Saying this, Rhys couldn't help but rub his arms, which were covered in goosebumps.

"Mortimer's schemes were too deep. If Amara's child hadn't been miscarried and she hadn't gone mad and revealed her cooperation with Mortimer, and if she hadn't overheard my conversation with Isaac about needing her child's cord blood for treatment, we might never have discovered his plot."
