Chapter 198 Don't Want to Hear Her Excuses
Isaac's expression was as dark as a stormy sky.
Kalista seemed to make some sense, but her entire pretense was questionable.
Whether Mortimer would scheme against him or not was no justification for her to take the blame.
Isaac warned coldly, "Don't ever show up in front of my grandparents again. If you dare disturb them, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Kalista clenched her fists tightly, crying her heart out. "Isaac, I've done so much for you. Are you really going to be so heartless to me?"
Isaac said, "I'll send you abroad. I'll also make sure your life is taken care of there. No one knows you overseas, and you can live comfortably."
Kalista's eyes lit up at his words. 'Isaac is still thinking about me, which meant he still has feelings for me!' she cheered inwardly.
This thought filled her with joy.
Suppressing her excitement, she said in a trembling voice, "I don't want to go abroad. I want to stay by your side!
"Isaac, I would never harm you. Please let me stay by your side, okay?"
Isaac said sternly, "I'll tell you one more time: I don't love you. Even if you stay by my side and do your best, I will never love you. Don't waste your time on me."
Kalista's face had a pained expression.
Kalista wondered, 'My love for Isaac is no less than Nora's. Why wouldn't Isaac accept me? What is Nora's have over me?'
Suppressing the bitterness in her heart, Kalista insisted stubbornly, "Whether you love me or not, I want to stay by your side.
"My reputation is ruined, and I'm hopeless. Only staying with you gives me a glimmer of hope to live.
"I won't leave. If you force me to go, I will die."
Isaac said coldly, "It's up to you. If you want to stay, that's fine. But if you'd rather leave, I won't stop you. I'll keep paying your bills like I have been, but that's all I can do.
"Listen, if you try to hurt anyone around me ever again, you'll be sorry. Consider this your last chance."
Kalista nodded tearfully and replied, "Thank you. I won't disappoint you."
Isaac said, "I've never been disappointed in you because I've never had any expectations of you.
"Let me make it clear I haven't pressed charges against you because you saved me before. I don't want to hold it against you."
Isaac paused and added, "But even the greatest kindness can be exhausted.
"You should know that if it wasn't you, and someone else was scheming against my grandfather the consequences would have been severe.
"I let you go, not because I have feelings for you, but to repay the kindness you showed me.
"Don't ever bring up it again. I owe you nothing."Kalista bit her lip hard, her face changing colors.
She knew Isaac's temper well.If the person scheming against Edmund wasn't her, that person would be dead by now.
Isaac had indeed shown great mercy by not doing anything to her.
But she didn't agree with him, knowing that it's difficult to be indebted with someone's kindness.
Kalista mused, 'A life-saving kindness couldn't be repaid so easily.
"Isaac, although I did wrong, no one was harmed. I also helped restore Edmund's and the Porters' reputation. How can this small mistake undermine my benevolent support?
"A small mistake and a great kindness are worlds apart; they can't cancel each other out!"
Isaac sneered, "A small mistake? You think it's okay as long as nobody dies? You have no idea what remorse is!"
Kalista gritted her teeth, saying nothing but that was exactly what she thought.
Isaac continued, "You want an example of a mistake that really matters, huh? You want to see whose lives were messed up?
"Fine, I'll give you one!
"You hurt Nora. You made her lose her babies. Is that big enough for you?"
Thinking of that, Isaac's expression grew colder, and a trace of pain appeared in his eyes.
He remembered seeing so many children's clothes and toys at Nora's house, all brand new. He got all gloomy.
Isaac pondered, 'Nora must have been in great pain over the loss of our babies, just like me. She must have missed them so much that she bought so many things for children.'
"Isaac, I..." Kalista could barely find the words to respond to him.
"Shut up. I don't want to hear your excuses!" Isaac coldly interrupted Kalista.
He composed himself and said sternly, "Even without all that. I've been taking care of you financially for the past three years. That's more than enough to repay you for anything.
"We're even!"
Kalista cried sadly. No matter how much unwillingness she felt, seeing Isaac's anger, she didn't dare to argue for herself. She covered her mouth and ran out of the hospital in tears.
At 8 PM, Wesley finally found a pastor and brought him to Isaac.
Wesley introduced, "Mr. Porter, this is Rick. Edmund knows him too. He's great!"
Isaac glanced at him, felt a little bit familiar.
He remembered that once, before a construction site started, the site was previously a cemetery. The partner, being superstitious, invited a pastor to pray before starting the construction work.
The pastor they invited back then was Rick.
Whether it was his ability or just a coincidence that after his blessing the construction work went smoothly, Isaac didn't know.
Initially, there were frequent injuries on the site. But after Rick's prayer, the site remained peaceful.
"Come with me," Isaac said as he composed himself and took Rick to Nora's house.
When they knocked on Nora's door, she was having dinner.
Seeing Isaac with a pastor at the door, Nora's mouth twitched in disbelief.
She remarked, "You really brought a pastor?"
Isaac said, "Yes, there's something strange here. It's good to have a prayer done. It won't hurt."
Nora thought to herself, 'there's nothing strange here! There's no such thing as ghosts!'But she swallowed that urge to tell him off.
Isaac suspecting a haunting was better than suspecting she had a secret child.
"Thank you. Come in," Nora welcomed, then stepped aside to let them in.
Isaac and Rick changed their shoes and entered the house.
On the way, Isaac had already explained the strange occurrences to Rick.
So, there was no need for Nora to explain anything. Rick started walking around the house.
Nora sat back at the dining table and continued eating.
Magnus and Soren had been sent upstairs to Mortimer, so there was no risk of them being discovered.
Rick could check all he wanted.
She didn't believe Rick would find anything.
"Is this what you have for dinner?" Isaac asked as he looked at the instant hot pot in front of Nora with disdain.
Nora said, "It's pretty good."
Isaac retorted, "Junk food."
Nora replied casually, "I don't care."
Isaac looked at her deeply with concern. He remarked, "No wonder you've lost so much weight since the divorce. You don't eat properly."
Nora didn't respond.
Her weight loss had nothing to do with eating. It was because of stomach cancer, making it hard to eat and absorb nutrients.
By the time Nora finished eating, Rick had finished his inspection. He walked into the living room, his eyes falling on Nora.
At first, Nora didn't pay any attention to Rick.
But Rick stared at her for a full five minutes without looking away, making Nora uncomfortable.
Isaac noticed Rick's odd behavior and asked, "Why are you staring at her?"
