Chapter 219 Proposal, Encountering an Acquaintance
Nora took about a week to bounce back and get back to her old self.
Except for the whole memory loss thing, everything seemed pretty chill.
Once Nora was back on her feet, Mortimer started taking her out for some fun times.
He wanted her to relax and also make some new memories together.
Nora's anxiety started to melt away.
Even though everything still felt kinda weird and new,
Every now and then, she'd get this flash of something familiar.
Nora figured she must've lived here before; otherwise, why would she get those familiar vibes?
Maybe it was just the injury making everything feel so off.
Good thing Mortimer was always around; she had no clue how she'd handle this strange world solo.
One day, Mortimer took Nora out for a whole day of fun.
By evening, they hit up a restaurant for dinner.
Mid-meal, a waiter rolled up to their table with a massive bouquet of roses.
Nora was totally caught off guard.
Mortimer grabbed the roses, then dropped to one knee in front of her, eyes full of love.
"Nora, you said yes to my proposal before you lost your memory, but since you forgot, I wanna do it again," he said, all serious. "Nora, I love you more than anything. From the moment I saw you, I was hooked. The best thing that ever happened to me was meeting you and falling in love with you."
He went on, "Nora, marry me. Let me take care of you and be with you as your husband."
Nora stared at Mortimer, totally shocked.
She didn't see this proposal coming at all.
She felt kinda lost for a second.
People around them started to catch on and began cheering, shouting stuff like "Say yes!"
Nora's face turned bright red.
She bit her lip and whispered, "Didn't you say I already agreed before I lost my memory? So we're already engaged. You don't need to propose again!"
Mortimer chuckled softly, "But you forgot. I want to give you more beautiful memories."
Nora bit her lip lightly.
Mortimer said with all the feels, "Nora, I love you. Will you marry me?"
The cheering got even louder.
People from other tables started to gather around to watch the scene.
Nora felt like they were in a zoo, and her face got even redder.
To stop the spectacle, she quickly grabbed the flowers and pulled Mortimer up.
"I agree. Now get up!"
Since she had already said yes once, saying it again wasn't a big deal.
Mortimer's smile grew wider, his eyes sparkling with happy tears, his hands shaking a bit from excitement.
Nora looked at him, surprised, and asked, "Why are you crying? Why are your hands shaking? Are you okay?"
She was a bit worried, thinking maybe Mortimer was sick.
Mortimer chuckled softly, ruffled Nora's hair, and said, "Don't sweat it, I'm good. Just super stoked. Hearing you say you'll marry me again is like, wow."
Nora, still puzzled, asked, "Didn't I already say yes before I lost my memory? Why are you so hyped?"
Mortimer replied, "Even if it's not the first time, hearing you say it again just gets me all fired up.
"Every little thing about you feels like a fresh surprise, and I can't help but get excited."
His gaze was so intense and loving that Nora had to look away, feeling overwhelmed.
She couldn't figure out what was going on with her.
In her head, a voice kept insisting she loved Mortimer and wanted to be with him forever.
It felt like a deep-rooted obsession.
Whenever she saw Mortimer, those thoughts would bubble up, reminding her how much she loved him and wanted to be with him forever.
But whenever Mortimer got close, she felt this weird urge to pull away, like her body was rejecting him.
Her mind and body were totally out of sync.
Nora was clueless about what was happening.
So, when Mortimer poured his heart out, she felt guilty, like she was letting him down.
Suddenly, Mortimer hugged her, whispering sweetly in her ear, "Nora, I love you. I'll treat you right for the rest of my life."
Nora snapped back to reality, her body tensing up at his touch.
She fought the urge to push him away.
They were a couple, a loving couple, about to get married. Hugging was normal.
These weird feelings had to be a side effect of her injury.
She had to push through it.
She couldn't let Mortimer feel bad.
Mortimer held her tight for a bit before finally letting go.
"Let's head back. We can talk about the wedding date once we're home," Mortimer said lovingly.
He needed to set the date and marry her to feel at ease.
Even though Nora was all about him and saw him as her lover, he still felt uneasy.
He wanted to marry her ASAP, to make her truly his!
"Okay," Nora replied with a faint smile and a gentle nod.
Mortimer took her hand and led her out of the restaurant.
But just as they reached the door, someone suddenly blocked their way.
"It's really you? You're still alive?!"
Nora jumped back, startled.
Seeing the person looking at her with such excitement, she was totally confused.
"Are you talking to me? You must have me mixed up with someone else," Nora said politely.
The person looked shocked, saying, "You don't recognize me? I'm Griffin! I could never mistake you. Even if you turned to ashes, I'd know you! Your name is Nora. You're Mr. Porter's wife!"
Nora stared at him, stunned. How did he know her name?
