Chapter 228 What He Said Might Be True
"Hey, don't freak out. I'm not a ghost," Isaac said, trying to catch the pillow she threw at him. He kept his voice as calm as he could, not wanting to scare her.
Nora froze at the sound of his voice.
Wait, wasn't this the guy who crashed her engagement party with Mortimer?
Mortimer had said this man was his enemy.
Did he kidnap her to get back at Mortimer?
Nora snapped to attention, eyeing him suspiciously. "Why did you kidnap me? What do you want?"
Isaac tried to reassure her. "Relax, I'm not gonna hurt you. I just wanted to make things right, so I brought you here."
Nora wasn't buying it. "I don't even know you. What are you trying to make up for?"
Isaac's heart sank.
She didn't remember him.
Maybe that was a good thing. If she forgot all the bad stuff, she wouldn't have to suffer or hate him.
They could start fresh.
Isaac said, "I'm your husband. I didn't protect you before and you got hurt, so I wanna make it up to you."
Nora shot back, "Don't lie to me. I've never been married. Mortimer is my lover. How could you be my husband?"
Isaac's expression turned icy.
That scumbag Mortimer had taken advantage of her amnesia to fill her head with lies.
Holding back his anger, Isaac said seriously, "Mortimer lied to you. You have nothing to do with him. I'm your lover. We started dating when you were eighteen, and we got married three years ago. We're a married couple!"
Nora's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Stop trying to trick me. I won't believe you. Even though I've lost my memory, I remember who my lover is!" Nora said firmly, "My lover is Mortimer. I've always loved him and only dated him. We've always been together. There's no way I dated or married anyone else!"
Isaac's demeanor turned even colder, his voice dangerously low. "Did Mortimer tell you that?"
Nora replied, "No, I remember it myself!"
Isaac frowned. "Didn't you lose your memory?"
Nora said, "I did lose my memory, but I remember everything about Mortimer. I remember he's my lover! I forgot everything else, but I remember him, which proves he's special to me! Don't try to mess with my head and lie to me!"
She remembered Mortimer!
She said she loved Mortimer deeply?
Isaac's heart sank. He couldn't believe Nora loved Mortimer that much!
It had to be her amnesia messing with her memories, making her confuse her feelings for him with feelings for Mortimer.
But thinking about how Nora had betrayed him for Mortimer back then, even secretly having two kids with him, felt like a punch to the gut.
Could it be that, in Nora's heart, Mortimer really was more important than him? Was that why, after losing her memory, she only remembered Mortimer and forgot everyone else, including him?
The thought hit him hard, making his heart ache like it was being cut by a knife, his body trembling uncontrollably.
"Who the heck are you? Why did you bring me here? When are you letting me go?" Nora demanded, her voice full of anger.
Isaac took a deep breath, trying to keep his emotions in check. "I'm Isaac, your husband. You're my wife. We belong together, so naturally, we should live together. I just want to keep you by my side. I won't hurt you, but I'm not letting you leave either."
Even if she was head over heels for Mortimer, he wasn't about to let her go. No way was he handing Nora over to someone as slimy as Mortimer! He couldn't believe she never had feelings for him.
During their three years of marriage, Nora must've felt something for him; otherwise, she wouldn't have tried so hard to make him happy.
They had been so in love. Even if she had a change of heart, he was sure he could win her back. Losing her was a pain he couldn't bear.
Without her, his world was just gray and meaningless.
"You're Isaac?" Nora gasped, staring at him in shock.
Was this the heir to the first family of Horizonia, Isaac?
Judging by this swanky villa, it wasn't something an average Joe could afford.
Could it be that the guy named Griffin that day wasn't lying? Maybe what he said was true?
Nora's mind went blank.
Isaac's eyes lit up a bit, unable to hide his excitement. "Do you remember me?"
Nora shook her head firmly. "No, I don't. But half a month ago, a guy named Griffin said I was your wife. After I got back, I got curious and looked you up. I learned about your identity and knew you were a big deal, that's all."
The light in Isaac's eyes dimmed. He had hoped she would remember him like she remembered Mortimer.
But it turned out she had only heard his name from someone else.
Realizing the man in front of her was Isaac, Nora calmed down.
She looked at Isaac seriously and said, "Mr. Porter, have you ever thought that I might just look like your wife, but I'm not actually her?"
Nora now thought maybe Griffin hadn't lied back then. He genuinely believed she was Isaac's wife, which was why he stopped her and said those things.
But she didn't think she was really Isaac's wife.
Because she still remembered her lover was Mortimer, and she had only dated Mortimer.
She loved Mortimer deeply. How could she have married someone else?
So, the only possibility was that Isaac's wife looked like her, and they had mistaken her for Isaac's wife.
The world was big, and it wasn't unusual for strangers to look alike.
Isaac said in a deep voice, "No, you are my wife, not just someone who looks like her. I could never mistake you for someone else! If it were just a resemblance, why would your name be the same as my wife's?"
Nora's heart skipped a beat.
Indeed. If it were just a resemblance, why would the names be the same?
