Chapter 182 One Wave After Another
Edmund was rushed to the hospital.
After a night of emergency care, his life was saved.
But a heart attack and stroke left him with serious aftereffects.
Edmund became paralyzed on one side and had trouble speaking.
Katie's fury and overwhelming sadness took their toll, and she collapsed.
At first, her condition wasn't critical, but by late at night, she slipped into a coma.
Despite all efforts to revive her, Katie remained unconscious.
In a single night, both elderly members of the Porter family had fallen.
Isaac hadn't slept at all, running back and forth in the hospital.
Now, as he was standing by Edmund's hospital bed, his expression was grave.
Edmund's eyes were bloodshot, tears streaming from the corners.
He struggled to keep his eyes open, his hand shaking as he tried to reach out, making incoherent sounds.
However, due to his stroke, he was unable to speak.
"Grandpa, don't be mad. I believe you're innocent. I won't blame you," Isaac said, holding his hand.
Edmund struggled to pull his hand away, opening Isaac's fingers.
Isaac seemed to understand and opened his palm.
Edmund's fingers trembled as he wrote on it.
He couldn't control his body; any movement caused shaking.
With great effort, he wrote "Radcliffe" on Isaac's palm.
The room in that video looked like the Radcliffe family's place.
The clothes in the video were the ones he wore when he visited Elder that day.
The video was likely filmed at the Radcliffe family's place.
Edmund was probably set up by the Radcliffe family!
"I know," Isaac said. "I know what to do. You rest; I'll bring Rhys back soon. He'll help you recover."
Edmund continued making sounds, as if he had more to say.
"Grandpa, are you asking about Grandma?" Isaac asked.
Edmund nodded with difficulty.
Isaac's look was cold but quickly softened. "Grandma is fine, just still angry and refuses to see you.
"But don't worry, I'll explain everything to her."
Edmund then closed his eyes.
Isaac waited until he fell asleep before leaving the ward.
Wesley had been pacing outside.
Seeing Isaac, he hurried over. "Mr. Porter, something terrible has happened!"
Isaac shot him a warning look.
Wesley quickly shut his mouth and glanced at the ward.
Isaac closed the door and walked down the corridor.
He stopped at the end of the hallway.
Wesley followed.
In a lowered voice, he said, "Mr. Porter, that video from last night has spread online.
"The worst part is, someone is saying the man in the video is Edmund.
"Even though we acted quickly to delete posts and silence accounts, the buzz has grown. Now everyone is talking about it, and the comments about Edmund are nasty."
Although the Porter family weren't celebrities or internet influencers, as the foremost aristocratic family in the country, their prominence was substantial.
When such a massive scandal erupted, the public, always hungry for high-society gossip, wasn't going to let it slide.
Isaac's face was a picture of frustration. His voice was sharp as he ordered, "Take down all the news online and ban the accounts spreading these insults.
"Any platform discussing it, shut it down immediately!"
Wesley hesitated. "That might be tough. Some netizens use code words, making it hard to track."
Isaac's face darkened further.
Just then, his phone rang.
He answered irritably. "Uncle Robert, what's up?"
A heavy voice came through. "Isaac, come back. Your grandpa's brothers have questions for you.
"And your uncles are all back too."
Isaac's gaze was intense.
He thought, 'They didn't come back for my engagement, but now they're here because of the video scandal, ready to blame me?'
"I understand. I'll come back right away."
Isaac put away his phone and instructed Wesley, "Keep suppressing the online buzz."
Half an hour later, Isaac returned to the Porter Family's old mansion.
As soon as he entered, he saw the living room full of people.
Isaac walked over with a blank expression, greeting each one politely. "Granduncle Thomas, Granduncle Mark, Granduncle Paul, why are you all back?"
For Robert and his uncles, as well as his cousins, he just nodded.
Granduncle Mark, with a dark expression, asked, "I heard your grandpa had an affair with your fiancée. Is that true?"
Isaac's eyes darkened. "No."
Granduncle Paul said, "The news is widespread, yet you are still lying to us?
"We've seen the video. Though the faces aren't shown, we know your grandpa well enough to recognize him. That was him!"
Granduncle Mark angrily said, "Your grandfather is utterly disgraceful. At his age, to still behave like this! He's dragged the Porter family's name through the mud!"
Jerry's eyes darted around as he added, "If Uncle Edmund is capable of such disgraceful actions, does he even deserve to be the head of the family anymore?
"And Isaac, under his management, such a massive scandal has damaged the Porter family's reputation. The financial losses are bound to follow.
"I believe Isaac's qualifications as an heir should be questioned and his position should be stripped!"
Brian chimed in, "Jerry's right. Not long ago, we had that scandal which wiped out billions in Porter family stock value, and it still hasn't recovered. Now, with this new scandal, Isaac's capabilities are definitely in doubt!"
Isaac lowered his gaze, hiding the cold fury in his eyes.
His uncles had always harbored ulterior motives regarding the Porter family's leadership.
When he was younger, they schemed against him many times, but he endured it all.
It wasn't until Isaac showed his capability that they quieted down.
Now, with the scandal, they weren't thinking about weathering the storm but about kicking him out.
In their eyes, only power mattered; they didn't care about the survival of the Porter Family!
Thomas, who had been silent up to this point, finally spoke, his voice steady and serious, "Isaac, explain this situation to us. There's a rumor circulating that your fiancée is pregnant with your grandfather's child. Is that true?"
