Chapter 32 They Look Like a Happy Couple

As soon as Isaac stepped out of the room, he was met with the sight of Kalista standing at the doorway.

Her voice trembled as she spoke, her words hoarse and laced with despair.
Forced to endure the night at the door, she was tortured, both physically and emotionally.
Seeing her two bodyguards had left before the door even opened, she stood there alone, on the verge of collapse.
Especially after seeing Isaac's face, looking refreshed and unbothered, her heart's grievances erupted, and tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.
Her body swayed, and then she toppled forward abruptly.
"Thud!"
Kalista hit the ground hard.
She was shocked.
Looking up, she stared blankly at Isaac.
Had he actually not caught her?
Feeling even more angry and wronged, her tears flowed freely.
Isaac frowned slightly, reached down to help her up, and asked in a low voice, "What are you doing here?"
"Grandpa asked me to come," Kalista sobbed inconsolably.
"Isaac, you and Nora are divorced; how could you still share a room with her? Where does that leave me? Do you have any idea how much pain and despair I felt last night?"
The more she spoke, the more aggrieved she felt, shaking uncontrollably.
Isaac's gaze lowered, his aura growing heavier.
What was his grandfather thinking, giving him and Nora an aphrodisiac and calling Kalista over?
"Isaac, be honest with me. Do you really still have feelings for Nora, thinking about remarriage?" Kalista asked, heartbroken.
"Stop jumping to conclusions; I've never thought about getting back together with her," Isaac refuted instinctively.
"Then why did you sleep with her last night?" Kalista questioned.
Isaac's eyes darkened as he revealed, "Last night, it was my grandpa who slipped something into the food. I lost consciousness - that's the only reason I ended up in bed with her. It wasn't my intention."

Kalista's complexion eased a bit upon hearing this.

"So, if you hadn't been drugged, you wouldn't have touched Nora, right?"

Isaac gave a heavy nod in affirmation.

A wave of relief washed over Kalista, yet anger still simmered within her.

Even though Isaac hadn't willingly pursued the encounter from the night before, it didn't change the fact that he had been intimate with Nora.

And her - she had been forced to endure a night outside, overhearing the man she loved with another woman. It infuriated her!

"Isaac, can we just get married already? Once we're married, your grandpa will finally drop the idea of setting you up with Nora. Otherwise, he won't let it go."

Isaac responded noncommittally, "Let's talk marriage later. Grandma hasn't been well lately, and the news would wreak havoc on her health."

Kalista bit her lip, wanting to say more.

But Isaac's phone suddenly rang.

"I need to take this call; I'll drive you home afterward."

With a brief remark, he took out his phone and headed toward his study.

After Isaac left, the two female bodyguards re-emerged upstairs.

They positioned themselves on either side of Kalista and gestured politely.

"Kalista, the old man would like to see you."

Kalista despised Edmund with every fiber of her being and had no desire to meet him. She feared losing control of her emotions and offending him.

Edmund was Isaac's grandfather, the person Isaac respected most. Despite her hatred, she had to keep it to herself.

If she dared show disrespect to Edmund, Isaac would surely be angry and might even distance himself from her.

Swallowing her resentment, Kalista silently followed the bodyguards downstairs.

Edmund sat in the living room. Upon seeing Kalista, said coldly, "The reason I had you come over last night was to make things clear. Isaac and Nora are the real match, and even with a divorce, she's the one on his mind. If you have any sense of self-awareness, stop clinging to Isaac from now on!"
"No, Isaac's heart has let go of Nora. He loves me now!" Kalista retorted stubbornly.

Edmund chuckled mockingly, "If Isaac isn't into Nora, how come he spent the night with her yesterday? You're just deluding yourself. Isaac has only ever loved Nora. No matter how hard you try, you can't replace her in his heart."

Kalista's chest heaved with anger.

Clenching her fists tightly, she hissed, "Who's really deluding themselves? If it wasn't for the drug you slipped them last night, Isaac would have never touched Nora! You drugged Isaac, and that could make him do the same with any woman you locked him up with last night. It wasn't because she was Nora!"

"Do you really think so?" Edmund asked with a smirk.

"It's the truth!" Kalista was confident in her guess. "Under those circumstances, he couldn't even tell who he was with. It could have been any woman, and he would have lost control!"

At that moment, she had shifted all the blame onto Edmund and Nora.

Nora must have conspired with Edmund to set Isaac up.

It was infuriating. She hadn't even shared a bed with Isaac yet.

Why did Nora, already divorced from Isaac, still get the chance to sneak into his bed?

A sly glint appeared in Kalista's eyes as a thought struck her.

She looked at Edmund earnestly. "If you want me to believe you, drug Isaac again and lock him up with me. If he doesn't lay a hand on me, then I'll believe he only has eyes for Nora! Your claims are unbelievable otherwise. They are just wishful thinking on your part!"

Without a moment's hesitation, Edmund said, "Fine, you'll have your chance tonight. And you'll see for yourself that it's time to give up."

Kalista couldn't contain her inner glee.

Edmund was such a fool. She had used a simple taunt, and he took the bait.

She had been worried about how to get close to Isaac. Now, this old man was ready to do her bidding and drug Isaac, which was going to play right into her hands!
Once Isaac slept with her, he'd have no reason to stall on marriage any longer.

Containing her excitement, Kalista remarked, "Alright, then I'll head back for now and come over again tonight. You better keep your word, Grandpa."

Full of confidence, Kalista left.

She was set on pampering her skin, with a special focus on some private grooming; she was determined to be irresistible to Isaac by evening.

After getting a taste of her, he'd never be able to let her go.

Oh, and she mustn't forget to take those ovulation-inducing pills. If she could carry Isaac's child tonight, Edmund and Katie would have no ground to object to their marriage.
