Chapter 233 Her Children Are Suffering
As soon as the call connected, a sweet voice came through the phone, which sounded no older than five years old.
At first, the voice was normal, but after a few words, the child on the phone started to cry sadly.
Nora's heart clenched tightly when she heard the voice.
"Mommy, where have you been all this time? Why haven't you been answering our calls? Uncle Mortimer isn't answering either. Magnus and I can't see you or reach you. We thought you didn't want us anymore." The little girl on the phone cried even harder.
Nora felt even more heartbroken.
She quickly spoke, "Don't cry please. Did you dial the wrong number? I'm not your mommy, but if you can't find your mommy, you can tell me her name, and I'll try to help you find her."
The little girl's voice made Nora feel a surge of affection. So even though she didn't know the kid, she was willing to help find her mommy.
The crying stopped abruptly. But soon after, the little girl cried even louder.
"Hey, don't cry please. Why are you crying even harder?" Nora didn't know how to comfort her.
After crying for a full minute, Soren said, "You are my mommy. Mommy, do you not want Magnus and me anymore? Why are you pretending not to know me?"
Nora looked puzzled. "I'm your mommy?"
Soren sobbed, "Yes, I can recognize mommy's voice, and this is mommy's phone number!"
Nora suddenly realized that the caller ID had shown the word 'Baby.' Her heart skipped a beat.
She asked urgently, "Am I really your mommy? Then tell me, what's my name?"
Soren said, "Your name is Nora."
Nora clenched her fists and asked, "What about your daddy?"
Soren said, "Daddy is dead. Mommy took us to the cemetery to pay respects to him just over a month ago."
Nora was even more shocked. She had children, and they were not Mortimer's, nor Isaac's. She was involved with a third man?
"Mommy, why did you suddenly disappear? Why don't you see us or contact us? And why can't we reach you on the phone? Do you not want Magnus and me anymore?" Soren choked out.
At this moment, a little boy's voice came through. "I told you not to contact her anymore, but you wouldn't listen. She doesn't want us. This isn't the first time. She abandoned us before and deliberately didn't contact us!" The boy's voice was filled with anger and resentment.
Nora's nose tingled, and she felt even more distressed. She hurriedly denied, "No, I didn't abandon you. I had an accident and forgot some things."
Magnus snorted. "I don't believe you. You just think Soren and I are a burden. You despise us and deliberately lost contact!"
Soren said, "Magnus, don't think so badly of mommy. Mommy wouldn't abandon us! Look, mommy answered our call!"
Magnus angrily retorted, "You fool, you believe her so easily. One day, she'll ditch you again!"
Soren said, "Mommy won't!"
Magnus didn't want to talk to Soren anymore.
Nora's tears flowed uncontrollably. She choked out, "I really didn't mean to lose contact with you. I'm sorry."
Soren, in her sweet childlike voice, said, "Mommy, you don't need to apologize. When are you coming to get us? We miss you. Mommy, don't be mad at Magnus. He has always missed you. He looks outside every day, just waiting for you to come get us."
Magnus immediately retorted, "Who said I was waiting for that bad woman? I'm waiting for Uncle Mortimer!"
Nora choked up and asked, "Where are you now? I'll come get you."
Soren hesitated. "I don't know. A month ago, Uncle Mortimer had us go with two strangers. They drove us to this strange place, and then they left. We don't know where this is. Since then, we haven't been able to reach you, and we can't reach Uncle Mortimer either."
Why didn't Mortimer tell her she had two children? Where did he send her two children?
Nora quickly shook her head. She couldn't let her mind wander. It might not be Mortimer who deceived her.
Maybe these two children weren't even hers. After all, her body didn't look like it had given birth.
She wanted to ask them more questions, but at that moment, a middle-aged woman's voice came through, yelling, "You little brats, what are you doing hiding here? Get back to work, or you won't get any dinner!"
Soren lowered her voice and said hurriedly, "Mommy, I have to hang up now. I'll call you when I get a chance!"
Nora urgently asked, "What's going on over there?"
The call was disconnected. When she called back, the phone was off. Then she was frantic, pacing back and forth in the room.
The woman on the phone was so harsh to them; they must be having a hard time.
Nora desperately wanted to find them, but she didn't even know where they were or how to rescue them!
The little girl said it was Mortimer who had them taken away. So Mortimer must know where the two children were!
Nora frantically searched for Mortimer's number.
Since this phone used to be hers and she and Mortimer had always been friends, his number must be in it!
