Chapter 248 Forcing Her to Swear
Isaac's body went rigid, and his face turned dark in an instant. He knew right away that the crying girl on the phone was Soren!
Back then, Nora had lied to him, saying Magnus and Soren were just the kids of a client. To make her happy and help her chill out, he had looked after those two kids for a bit. He knew Magnus and Soren's voices all too well. Even though some time had passed, he could still recognize them instantly.
Isaac clamped his lips shut and didn't say a word.
"Mommy, why aren't you talking? Can you hear me?" Soren cried for a bit, but when she got no answer, she stopped and asked, sounding all pitiful.
Isaac glanced at Nora, who was fast asleep in his arms. Not wanting to wake her, he stayed quiet. But Soren's crying was getting on his nerves.
He hesitated for a second and gently laid Nora on the sofa.
Nora was out cold, not even a twitch.
Isaac sighed in relief. He grabbed Nora's phone and headed to the bathroom, putting the phone back to his ear.
"Mommy, why are you ignoring me? Do you not want me and Magnus anymore? You said you wouldn't leave us, but now you're ignoring us. You lied to us again." With no response, Soren's crying got even louder.
Isaac listened, his face blank. He really didn't want to deal with this.
That was Mortimer's kid. Even if she was just crying, or even if she died, he shouldn't care. But hearing her cry, he felt a twinge of pity.
Isaac was annoyed at his own weakness.
He pressed his lips together and kept listening coldly. Even though he felt a pang of compassion, he didn't intended to comfort her.
"You little brats, sneaking around here in the middle of the night instead of sleeping! Didn't I warn you not to run around? Looks like I didn't beat you enough. Just wait and see how I deal with you!" A distant scolding voice cut through.
Soren was so scared she hiccuped.
Isaac's eyes narrowed. Who was being so harsh to them? Just as he was about to say something, the call abruptly ended, and the phone beeped with a busy signal. He immediately called back.
"Sorry, the number you dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later." The automated message made Isaac's face darken even more.
It seemed Soren had seen someone coming and got scared into turning off the phone.
Isaac stared at the phone, his mind racing. He knew he shouldn't get involved.
Magnus and Soren were his enemy's kids; he had no reason to care about their lives.
In fact, it would be better if Magnus and Soren were out of the picture, so Nora would no longer pay attention to them.
In the future, he and Nora would have their own kids. If Magnus and Soren were gone, Nora could fully love their children. Meanwhile, a series of footsteps quickly approached the bathroom door.
Then Nora's voice came from outside. "Mr. Porter, did you take my phone?"
Isaac's gaze was intense. He walked to the door and opened it.
Nora looked at him, then her eyes fell on the phone in his hand. "Why did you take my phone?" she asked seriously.
Lately, she had been waiting every day for Magnus and Soren to contact her again, keeping her phone on her 24/7. Even when sleeping, she wore pajamas with pockets to keep the phone on her, so she could feel it vibrate and not miss any calls.
Just now, she had groggily reached for her pocket but didn't find her phone. She woke up instantly.
After waking up, she started searching.
Finally, she discovered Isaac had locked himself in the bathroom, so she hurried over to ask.
"Don't you know it's wrong to take someone else's phone without permission?" Nora said as she snatched the phone back.
Isaac said calmly, "Someone called you just now. I saw you were asleep, so I took it to a place where I wouldn't disturb you and answered it."
"Who called?" Nora asked.
Isaac replied, "You had them saved as 'Baby'. When I answered, it was a little girl's voice."
He hadn't had time to delete the call log, so Nora would find out by checking it herself. There was no need to hide it.
Nora's eyes widened in shock at Isaac's words.
Baby?
That must have been a call from Magnus and Soren! After nearly half a month, they had finally contacted her again. But she hadn't answered their call herself.
She quickly opened the call log and indeed saw the record.
"What did she say?" Nora tried to stay calm, but the worry and urgency in her eyes betrayed her inner turmoil.
Isaac was taken aback.
Nora's reaction was off. She had said that after losing her memory, she remembered no one but Mortimer.
'So why was she so anxious? Shouldn't she not know who "Baby" was?' Isaac pondered.
"Answer me, what did she say?" Nora urged anxiously.
Isaac looked at her deeply and said, "When I answered, she called for her mommy and kept crying. I thought it might be a wrong number or a scam, so I didn't respond and just listened to her cry for five minutes."
Nora's heart sank. Should she be relieved that Isaac didn't suspect she was Soren's mother? Or should she be angry that he made her miss the precious opportunity to talk to Magnus and Soren?
Magnus and Soren were somewhere unknown, waiting for her to rescue them. Every call was crucial.
Who knew when they would contact her again?
The longer Magnus and Soren suffered, the more her heart felt like it was being torn apart.
"Why did you take my phone? Why did you answer my call?" Nora angrily questioned him.
If Isaac hadn't taken her phone, she would have been woken up by its vibration. It was Isaac who made her miss the precious opportunity to talk to Magnus and Soren!
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and her gaze towards Isaac turned hostile.
Isaac asked in a low voice, "Didn't you say you lost your memory and forgot everyone? You shouldn't even remember who 'Baby' is. Why are you so angry about missing her call?"
Nora's heart skipped a beat, and a trace of panic flashed in her eyes. After a moment, she said, "I don't remember or know her. But she contacted me a while ago, saying she was the child of a client friend. That client gave me some money and entrusted me to take care of her and her brother. I liked her voice and felt sorry for her, so I agreed to continue taking care of them. But now I don't know where they are, and they seem to be in danger. So I've been keeping my phone with me, waiting for them to contact me!"
The more Nora spoke, the angrier she became, clenching her fists tightly. "I've been waiting for half a month, and they finally contacted me again, but you answered the call without asking anything! Who knows when they'll contact me again, and what if something happens to them?"
She couldn't bear to think about it. If something happened to Magnus and Soren, she would have no will to live.
Isaac clenched his fists tightly, almost certain that Nora had regained her memory!
Magnus and Soren were her children. When they contacted her, they called her mommy directly. They couldn't have told her the lie she had used to deceive him.
Isaac took a deep breath, suppressing his irritation. He had no intention of exposing Nora.
Nora probably didn't want to bring up the past, so she pretended to have amnesia. Since that was the case, there was no need for him to expose her.
Looking at the anxious Nora, Isaac said in a low voice, "I'm sorry, I didn't know. To make up for my mistake, I can try to help you find them."
Nora was stunned.
Isaac actually offered to help her find them?
With Isaac's abilities, his help would definitely be more effective than her waiting around!
"Are you serious? Are you really willing to help me?" Nora cautiously confirmed.
"Yes, but I have one condition," Isaac said calmly.
Nora narrowed her eyes and asked, "What condition?"
Isaac said, "If I help you find them, you must be a good wife to me from now on. No matter what happens in the future, for any reason, as long as I don't allow it, you can't leave me."
Nora's heart tightened.
How could he make such an outrageous demand?
After toying with her, he still wanted to keep her by his side. Hadn't he had enough revenge?
She didn't want to be his wife at all!But she was desperate to save Magnus and Soren. Moreover, she was starting to lose trust in Mortimer.
Thinking this way, Isaac seemed to be her only hope.
Nora was silent for a long time, struggling internally.
Isaac didn't rush her, patiently waiting for her to consider.
After a long time, Nora smiled bitterly and said, "Fine, I agree. As long as you can bring them back, I'll agree to anything. But you must also promise me one condition: once you find them, you can't harm them for any reason!"
Isaac looked coldly.
Was she afraid he would find out they were her and Mortimer's children and then want to get rid of them furiously?
Isaac didn't hesitate and said calmly, "I promise."
Even if Nora didn't make this demand, he wouldn't harm them. He wasn't that heartless. The kids were innocent.
He said, "Just a verbal promise isn't enough. I want us to sign an agreement, and I want you to swear on those two children. If you break your promise, those two children will live miserable lives, the boy in prison, the girl as a prostitute, constantly suffering from illness, never finding peace until they die in pain."
Nora's pupils contracted, her eyes widening in disbelief. Then anger surged in her heart. She slapped Isaac hard across the face.
The crisp sound of the slap echoed, and a red handprint instantly appeared on Isaac's left cheek.
Nora, trembling with anger, cursed, "How can you use such vicious words to curse two children? Are you even human?!"
Those were his children, and he cursed them so viciously. He would definitely face retribution!
Isaac said, "I'm not cursing them. The curse will only take effect if you break your promise. Whether the curse takes effect depends entirely on your choice."
Nora's chest heaved with anger.
Isaac said, "You should decide quickly. Before they hung up, I heard a woman scolding them and saying she would punish them. If you delay too long and they get seriously hurt, it will be too late."
Nora's anxiety grew. Finally, she gritted her teeth and said, "Fine, I agree! But you must also swear that you will never harm or target them. If you break your promise, the Hawkins family will go bankrupt, and all the men and women will sell their bodies, and their ancestors' graves will be dug up by wild dogs!"
Isaac said, "Yes, I promise." He had never intended to harm those two children and had long known they were her and Mortimer's children.
Isaac had Wesley draft the contract.
The next morning, Wesley delivered the contract.
Nora, with a heavy heart, signed her name on the agreement and swore as Isaac required.
Isaac also signed his name and swore.
Nora asked urgently, "Where will you look for them? You don't even know where they were taken. Can you find them?"
