Chapter 391: Hugging Nora in Front of Isaac
The hallway was very quiet.
No one was talking.
Only the occasional sound of heavy breathing could be heard.
Everyone's thoughts were focused on the operating room.
This surgery didn't take as long as the last one, but it still lasted nearly ten hours.
When Rhys came out of the operating room, Nora and Isaac immediately surrounded him.
"How is it?" Nora asked anxiously.
Rhys gave the same response as last time, "The surgery was successful, but whether he can recover and how much depends on his fate."
"Spinal injuries are tricky to predict. No doctor can make any promises. We can only wait until he wakes up and see."
Nora's eyes darkened.
Such vague answers were the most distressing and unsettling.
Rhys comforted, "Try not to stress too much. The important thing is that he's alive."
"Even if he can't recover now, modern medicine is advancing so quickly. Maybe there will be a breakthrough in new technology, and there will be a way to treat paralysis."
Nora was not comforted.
Placing hope in an uncertain future was no better than praying to God.
But since Rhys, the world's top doctor, said so, she had no choice but to accept the result, even if she couldn't accept it.
Magnus was sent to the ICU.
This time, the observation period would be longer, at least seven days.
Nora hurriedly glanced at Magnus, then watched as he was pushed into the ICU.
Mortimer patted her shoulder and spoek gently, "Don't worry. Magnus is a lucky child. He will definitely recover completely."
Nora choked and nodded, "Yes, Magnus will definitely recover!"
She was trying to convince herself, to firmly believe that Magnus would recover.
Mortimer uttered, "Let's go accompany Soren. We promised Soren yesterday that we would go see her today."
Nora nodded.
She glanced worriedly at Magnus in the ward, then turned to leave with Mortimer.
As she turned, she saw Isaac standing nearby.
Nora's face quickly darkened, and anger surged in her eyes.
"Didn't I warn you to stay away from Magnus? What are you doing here?"
Isaac lowered his eyes, hiding his sadness, and replied in a rough voice, "Okay, I'll leave now."
Nora saw him as a threat, believing that as long as he was near Magnus, Magnus would be in danger. To calm her anger, he had to go along with what she wanted.
He would come back to accompany Magnus at night.
Isaac silently turned and left.
"Isaac, wait," Mortimer suddenly called out.
Isaac ignored him and continued walking.
He didn't want to argue with Mortimer here, so he simply ignored him.
After all, Mortimer always said things he didn't want to hear, and he didn't want to argue with him.
Mortimer said, "You haven't seen Soren for two days. Yesterday, she asked when you would come to finish the puzzle with her."
"The puzzle we were working on together, Soren hasn't let us touch it because she wants to finish it with you."
"If you have time today, can you come with us to complete the puzzle? Don't let Soren be disappointed."
Isaac stopped.
He hadn't expected Soren to still be thinking about him, which brought some comfort to his wounded heart.
He turned to look at Nora, wanting to gauge her thoughts.
If she was okay with him going, then he'd go.
But if she wasn't on board, he wouldn't go.
At this time, he didn't want to anger Nora.
Nora voiced irritably, "Let's go finish the puzzle together."
If Isaac didn't go, Soren would keep asking. She could only let him go and keep a close eye on him to make sure he didn't harm Soren.
Isaac smiled and followed them to Soren's place.
Soren was very happy to see Isaac. She ran to him, grabbed his big hand with her small one, and led him to Nora, grabbing Nora's hand with her other small hand, pulling them inside.
They all hid their true emotions, wearing forced smiles, and played Soren's favorite games with her.
It took them another two days to finish the puzzle.
Nora had the completed puzzle fixed and hung in Soren's room.
In the following days, Isaac came to play with Soren every day.
At night, he would go see Magnus, and every day, he would put on sterile clothes and go in with Rhys to talk to Magnus at his bedside.
Although Magnus never responded, he talked to him every day.
Seven days passed, and Magnus's condition remained stable, without worsening.
But he hadn't woken up.
Nora anxiously asked Rhys, "Didn't you say seven days of observation would be enough? Now seven days have passed, why hasn't Magnus woken up?"
Rhys replied, "I said that if everything went smoothly in seven days, he would be out of the critical period, but I can't guarantee that he would wake up in seven days."
Nora's face turned pale, and her body trembled slightly, "Then when will he wake up?"
Rhys shook his head, "I don't know. His injuries are too severe, especially with spinal injuries. The nervous system must have been damaged. Whether he can wake up and when he can wake up are unknown."
"I told you that day, he could end up a vegetable."
Nora's vision went black, and she fell backward.
"Nora?" Mortimer reached out to support her, his face full of concern, "Calm down, it's only been seven days. Magnus's injuries haven't healed yet. It's normal that he hasn't woken up."
"They say it takes a hundred days to recover from a serious injury. Let's give Magnus some time to heal. He still has a chance to wake up."
Nora steadied herself, her blurry vision gradually clearing, but her body continued to tremble uncontrollably.
Mortimer said gently, "We have to believe in Magnus. He's such a sensible guy; he wouldn't want you to be sad. He will come back to you, be with you, and take care of you. You have to have faith in him."
Tears streamed down Nora's face, uncontrollably.
"I want to believe he will wake up, but..."
"No buts, he will wake up." Mortimer patted her shoulder, his gentle voice firm.
Nora bit her lip hard, but her heart felt suffocated.
Mortimer pressed her head into his chest and sighed, "If you want to cry, just let it out. Bottling it up will only make you sick."
A cold gaze fell dangerously on Mortimer.
Mortimer looked up and met Isaac's murderous eyes, but he wasn't afraid. Instead, a smile curved on his lips.
