Chapter 355 Nora Found Out
"Don't worry, Soren will definitely come back safe and sound," Kieran comforted.
Edmund sighed, "At first, I believed Isaac could bring Soren back, but now it's been more than half a month without any news. I'm afraid Soren might be in grave danger and may never return."
The best rescue time had long passed, and now there was almost no hope of finding her.
Even if they could find Soren, it was highly likely she wouldn't be alive.
Thinking of this, Edmund's heart ached uncontrollably, and his eyes filled with tears.
"Soren hasn't even returned to the family yet. I haven't had the chance to hold her a few more times before this accident happened. How could God be so cruel to a child?"
Kieran's eyes also filled with tears, but he still tried to console Edmund, "Please, calm down. You can't get too emotional. Over the past half month, your hair has turned even whiter. It pains me to see you like this."
Not only that, but Edmund also couldn't sleep at night. He often woke up in the middle of the night, sitting alone by the window, staring at the night sky. No one knew what he was thinking.
Perhaps he was thinking about his poor great-granddaughter, Soren.
Edmund's already frail body had deteriorated even more over the past half month.
Suddenly, Edmund covered his mouth and started coughing painfully, his aged face turning as pale as paper.
"Mr. Porter? What's wrong? Don't get agitated, take a deep breath!"
Kieran was startled and quickly patted Edmund's back to help him breathe, while calling others to come in and prepare to take Edmund to the hospital for a check-up.
After hanging up the phone, Nora went to the store.
Her hired help, Isla, had already arrived at the store.
When she got there, Isla had just washed a bowl of fruit to give to Sophia.
Sophia's belly had grown even larger. In the last few months, it had expanded very quickly. Almost every time they met, it was visibly bigger.
"Your belly is so big, it doesn't look like a single baby. Could it be twins?" Nora walked up to Sophia, smiling as she reached out to touch her belly.
Sophia's smile stiffened, and her eyes flickered with guilt.
She didn't know.
She hated the man who insulted her, and by extension, she hated the child in her belly. Every time she went for a check-up, Sophia didn't care about the reports at all. She would just leave after the check-up.
So she wasn't very aware of the condition of the fetus, only knowing that it wasn't dead.
All the pregnancy precautions were sent to her by Rylan.
Sophia changed the subject, "How come you have time to come over today? I have a check-up today, so I can't stay at the store with you."
Nora said, "I'll go with you. With your belly so big, I don't feel comfortable letting you go alone."
Sophia wanted to refuse but couldn't find a reason, so she reluctantly agreed.
In the afternoon, Nora closed the store and accompanied Sophia to the hospital for her prenatal examination.
However, when they arrived at the hospital entrance, Nora saw Edmund being helped out of the hospital by several people.
Nora's eyes showed shock.
Why was Edmund here?
Wasn't he supposed to be traveling abroad with Soren?
She had been calling Edmund every few days, but every time the signal was very bad, and she couldn't even find out which country Edmund had taken Soren to.
Just this morning, before leaving, she had called Edmund. The signal was still bad, and he had told her they would stay abroad for a while longer before hurriedly hanging up.
How could he be at the hospital just a few hours later?
Could it be that Edmund had never left the country and had been in Aridonia all along?
Why would Edmund lie to her?
Nora let go of Sophia's arm and quickly ran to Edmund.
"Grandpa, didn't you say you were abroad? Why are you here?" Nora asked urgently.
Edmund looked at Nora in shock, not expecting to see her at the hospital entrance.
After hearing Nora's question, his eyes darted around nervously, avoiding her gaze.
Nora looked around and then back at Edmund, "Grandpa, where's Soren? Since you're back, Soren should be back too, right? Where is she?"
Edmund felt even more guilty, his eyes instantly turning red.
He felt sorry and didn't know how to explain to Nora.
"Grandpa, why aren't you saying anything? Answer me!" Nora pressed urgently.
The moment she saw Edmund, a bad feeling flashed through her mind.
Could it be that Edmund had been in the country all along?
Was he lying about being abroad with Soren?
She hadn't seen a single photo or video of Soren in all this time.
Was it because something had happened to Soren, and Edmund and Isaac were hiding it from her?
Otherwise, why had Isaac been avoiding her during her waking hours? Living under the same roof, they hadn't seen each other for more than half a month.
How far abroad could it be that the signal was so bad that they couldn't even talk?
Were all these unusual things meant to hide the truth about Soren's accident?
Nora felt a wave of panic and didn't dare to think further.
It was impossible for Soren to be in trouble!
She couldn't let her mind wander!
"Grandpa, tell me, where is Soren? I haven't seen her for more than half a month. Let me see her!" Nora urged again.
Edmund's eyes filled with more guilt, and tears welled up in his cloudy eyes.
Butler Kieran stepped forward and said to Nora, "Mrs. Porter, please calm down. Mr. Edmund Porter is weak and just had an injection. He can't handle any agitation. Please don't upset him."
Nora took a deep breath, trying to control her emotions.
She didn't want to get agitated.
But where was Soren?
She wanted to know Soren's situation!
What had happened to her Soren?
Where had Soren been taken?
Kieran said to Nora, "If you want to know about Soren, you can ask Mr. Isaac Porter. He knows best."
After saying that, he helped Edmund walk past Nora.
Edmund opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but no words came out.
He had lied to Nora, and he felt guilty. He hoped Nora wouldn't hate him.
After Edmund left, Sophia, holding her waist, walked over to Nora.
"Nora, what's wrong? What happened?"
Nora shook her head, her face pale, "I don't know."
